So many disappointing things about this place it's hard to know where to start. First for me and my 9 yr old we paid $38 to get in plus a tiny bag of feed (feed was $8) to get "in" - the "zoo" takes about 7 minutes in total to get through. The animals are in inappropriately small enclosures. They charged us $20 for a small piece of fudge with no posted prices. Everything about this place was a rip off, I'd feel better if I knew the animals were benefiting but most if not all animals were severely deformed or in poor health. It didn't seem like a rehabilitation or rescue, more exploitation than sanctuary. Very sad and not recommended at all. read more

I took my girlfriend to this petting zoo expecting a nice day out, but we didn't expect the incredible and amazing service we received. Shawna was amazing, she told us the histories of each animal, including their family dog, and told us the history of their chocolates (amazing chocolates by the way)! I visited this petting zoo on a Sunday around 10am with my daughter who is 18months. This is a very small and very expensive petting zoo. It is 20$ for an adult and 10$ for a child plus 5$ for a bag of goat feed (optional). My daughter did love seeing all the animals. That being said, when we got there the animals were not really interested in interacting with us (I know they could have been tired and I am not dinging the zoo for that) but just fyi to maybe try later in the day. My daughter and I were the only ones there when we arrived and we were able to walk around 2-3 times to see the animals and finished in about 30minutes. Even if you have older children, I can't imagine you would spend more than an hour here. I will say the animal stalls were clean but small and I hope that they are given time to stretch their legs outside of their stalls. The chocolates and gelato were a nice treat and tasted very good. Overall, imo this place is too expensive and not worth the money. read more

Animals are friendly and awesome, staff is very kind and helpful, and the location is clean but remember it is an animal zoo. This is a must-see very close to the wineries of Temecula. There's many animals to feed ($5/bag) as well as many exotics like a zebra, camel, and large, unique birds, as well as 2 free-roaming pigs and a lovely large cage-free bird that hangs around. Admission is $10/adult and you can purchase once you get there. The staff is all really nice and informative, and there are sinks to wash your hands after petting the animals. The chocolate tasting inside is a mere 1 chocolate sample, however, and the truffles are homemade and excellent, but range from $5-8 per PIECE. Yes, just 1 small, bite-sized chocolate is as much as $8. The gelato was also homemade and delicious for $7 a scoop. It was pricey, but delicious and ample in size. This place is a must for children and animal lovers, particularly if you're already in the area. I wouldn't come here banking on an invigorating chocolate tasting or purchasing experience as their business name suggests, though. read more

Love this little zoo/sanctuary! The staff is SO nice and friendly, and love that you can feed the llamas too. It's very small but it was a fun time seeing, petting, and feeding the animals. There is even a cute little store inside with chocolates or gelato. There is a small parking lot right in front and they have a hand washing station outside too for when you're done petting and feeding the animals. Great for kids. read more

Had an incredible time at the Sugarplum Zoo today with my girlfriend. Spent a good 3 hrs there walking back and forth petting and feeding the animals ( llamas/ alpacas and goats) Our absolute favorite was Venus the Highlander cow. What a gentle soul she was. My experience here was amazing , we came here on a Monday so it was very quite and not too crowded which gave us a chance to interact with the animals . Shauna was exceptionally knowledgeable and funny throughout our experience and even gave us a cactus clip for memories . I went to this place with family and the animals look like they needed help (the ones in the back) something just didn't sit right. There are signs everywhere with who you can touch or feed, but what they should post is if you walk past the giraffe he will snatch the bag of food from you. They tell you don't feed him but heck he feeds himself. He ripped the bag right out of my hand. This old lady I think was the owner comes running over to me yelling "what did you do" I said he took the bag. She says "no you fed him" I told her I can read, he snatched the bag. Then I also told her they need paper bags of food not PLASTIC if it could harm the animals, choke them and they gave a tendency of snatching bags. She walked away. read more

Great little spot tucked away in wine country. Not very big but they have pretty diverse animals. Water buffalo, wallaby, exotics birds, zonkey, camel. Pretty cool. And much closer than a typical zoo so you can get hands on with most of the animals. $10 to get in and you get a free sample chocolate after you head back to the office. Chocolate was delicious! We ended up buying several different truffles and they have many to choose from. The peanut butter was the best! Petting zoo + chocolate shoppe = no brainer for animal lovers to make a visit here! They had quite an exotic variety of animals: camel, alpacas, wallaby, goat, ducks, mini horses, cows, water buffalo, zebra, donkey, chickens, barn owl and of course... piggies! They give you a quick tour to introduce all the animals and a little about their story / personality ($10) which concludes with a delicious tasting of chocolate. You are then able to go back and pet all the animals for as long as you want. Had a great time meeting the animals here with my little one. We came on a Friday so it wasn't too packed and we stayed about 2 hours. The zebra, camel and mini highlander were our favorites! Very personable and well kept furry friends here. My daughter loved feeding the goats and going inside the enclosure with the rabbit and guinea pigs. There is also a chicken and turkey enclosure you can go in as well! There is a nice cafe with quite a selection and ample shade. I really enjoyed the caprese sandwich and a PB and j for the little one! The staff was very warm and welcoming, the keepers were very informative and interested in the animals. Everything from the hand washing station to the outhouse was very well kept and clean. For people concerned about masks, they were all complying with the draconian order. There is a beautiful little shop at the entrance and after hearing they've been in the chocolate making business for over 15 years, we had to stop on our way out to bring home some delicious chocolate truffles! Sugarplum farm is a wonderful place and experience for all ages and I would absolutely recommend everyone in the area to check it out. read more

Visited Sugarplum Zoo on a whim during our stay in Temecula this past week and we are so glad we went!! We were greeted by Shawna who largely deserves a five star review and all of the praise! She was so warm to us from start to end of our visit at Sugarplum. You can tell she is beyond passionate about her work at this farm and loves each and every single animal that is there. I honestly don't think we would have enjoyed our experience nearly as much as we did if she wasn't there. In addition to the most wonderful employee we've met, there were some really cool animals here!! My fiancé and I were especially huge fans of Venus the highland cow, Augustus the resident piggy who roams the property, a zonkey whose name we can't remember, a toucan, and a Victoria crowned pigeon. Overall such an awesome visit well worth your time! I look forward to returning on our next visit back to Temecula. read more

Started off well, we took our 19 month old to see the animals because he's a huge old McDonald fan. Well yes it's small for the price but hey we needed some fun outdoors. On our way out an employee stopped us and was telling us about a few animals and what they love. She stopped at the toucan looking bird and told me he loved to be pet as king as I told it how pretty it was. (I was holding my son while she showed me how to pet it and encouraged me to do so ) well as I stood there and stuck my hand in my son held the cage with me and he was bit. As he was being but she said careful of baby fingers he may bite them. Hello A when we arrived we were told all anaimals were nice and loved being touched. OMG...I am completely in love with this place! The owner/employees are the nicest people I have encountered in a long time. They are so friendly and make you feel at home. The rescue is amazing. The animals are soo cute and sweet and love to be pet or be brushed. My children loved it here... but I loved it just as much or more. They have mini horses, micro sebu (I didn't know they existed), micro horse, donkeys a zebra... all kinds of birds and a camel. They also have a hedgehog and an owl in the office. All of the animals are beautiful. They also have a store, restroom facility and sink to wash your hands once you are done petting the animals. You get a chocolate sample with your visit...the most delicious chocolate I have ever had (the owners secret recipe). You want to visit? Do it! Cute, quaint little farm. We got there at 9am on a Saturday, had it to ourselves for a good 30 minutes before people started to show up. Ashley was our guide and she was awesome. My parents have a mini farm of their own so we haven't attempted this place for fear our 6 children would be bored easily because they've grown up around a farm. NOT THE CASE. The kids absolutely loved it. We spent about a hour here, they have a great selection of animals to see. You can't pet all of them but that's ok. Not all animals want to be touched but it was so fun to see the different types of animals they have. All in all, wonderful experience. I'd even pay more. The chocolate was a hit as well. I liked the idea of having a petting zoo, but.... the animals need attention. My son had a lot of fun in the chicken pen, however, some of the birds need some TLC. We used to own chickens prior to moving to the area so we are extremely knowledgeable. One of the bantams had curling nails and they needed to be trimmed terribly bad! I felt so bad for it and it could hardly walk. The eye on the same bird seemed to have an infection as it was cloudy. The cost of the petting zoo was extreme for what it was. I would imagine these animals would have luxurious pens for the cost of the admission. The sample of chocolate was minuscule. My son was upset that it was barely a drop and he wanted more. The price for the truffles were extreme. I get it, give a tiny sample to intrigue the buyer though. The money paid for the zoo clearly goes to the chocolate making versus the animals. If the zoo didn't cost so much and the birds were more taken care of I would consider changing my review. However, based on the cost and what I paid I feel 2/5 stars is appropriate. Riley's Farm in Oak Glen the petting zoo is $6/person and there are far more animals in larger cages. The Living desert is $12/adult and it's a legitimate zoo. read more

Apollo the water buffalo, Aurora the zebra. and Giselle the dwarf baby miniature cow. They also had an owl, turkeys, ducks, llama etc. Small petting zoo but cute friendly animals. They also sell decadent chocolates. Mini store but also lots of variety and art for sale. Only four stars because lack of an actual restroom facility with running water. Only one port a potty.
