Moosomin sounded like a another Saskatchewan town that's down on its luck. Well I was wrong on both counts. Moosomin is an interesting place to visit and The Crate House is a quality destination café and deli. It's a deli with two tables inside and more outside, (I didn't count how many). They have WiFi but it's not password protected. The deli also has ice-cream, milkshakes, sandwiches, soup, iced coffee plus all the usual things that you expect to see in a delicatessen. We wanted lunch so both of us ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich and a cup of ravioli sausage soup. The sandwiches were fresh and delicious. Not too big and not too small. I liked the fact that these were not messy sandwiches with stuff dripping out on your fingers or work clothes. The meat was tender without a hint of dryness. All sandwiches should be like these. The soup was excellent too. It was thick soup with big pieces of home made ravioli; the kind of soup that only a chef or a mother can make. There were several other sandwiches to choose from and I think that the soup changes each day. Oh did I mention the seafood? Yes a small town in the middle of the Canadian prairies has seafood. How on earth do they pull that of in rural Saskatchewan? I would love to come back here but that's unlikely to happen because this local treasure is far from home for us. The town is right off the TransCanada Highway and the deli is on Main Street. Check it out because if you appreciate good food that's made right you'll be glad you stopped in Mooomin and ate at The Crate House.

After working in the food industry for the past 30 plus years I can respect the fact that if it is quiet you like to close early but it is important to keep consistent hours of service as otherwise people will get frustrated and NOT support your business because they don't know your hours of business! There was NOT notice on the door advising that they would be closing early. It was 2 years ago on Remembrance Day when I drove up and as walking towards the door I watched an employee run to the door and lock it as I approached the door so I knocked and knocked, eventually Ray opened the door and told me it was so quiet all day they decided to close early. It would've took 5 minutes to make a happy customer out of me but instead this business was more concerned about it's employee closing early. I sent a complaint to Subway and the owner contacted me but I see that my concern fell on deaf ears as once again this happened. I will discuss this with owner again but I doubt that I will bother to support Subway Canora again unless it is Kamsack or Yorkton's store. SO SAD as businesses are struggling to survive but how much inconsideration can a customer absorb before they feel discouraged.
