The best higher education experience I've ever had…read more I took a business and EU law class over the summer here. Classes were small with between 7-20 students each. Lectures were interesting and fun with lots of participation required from us students. The set up was more like a round table where everyone gets a chance to chime in. This is very different from the standard set up in universities in United States with large lecture halls and all the students facing the professor. Lectures were not always just in the boring old classroom setting. We had a class at a bar once. My business professor took us on a tour of a soccer stadium. And my law professor took us on a trip to the EU headquarters in Brussels. If you're worried that you need to learn Dutch to study here, fret not. A lot of classes are taught in English and everyone in the Netherlands speaks really good English. Dorm rooms are very small. Showers, bathrooms and laundry rooms are shared. Each guesthouse has a large room where students can hangout, make food and watch TV. The university doesn't have a gym. But there are a couple of gyms close by including 123fit (which is targeted for older people). Honestly, a gym membership really isn't necessary considering most people walk, bike or use public transportation here. There is also a farmers market at the town square area, walking distance from campus. I really loved it here. The staff and professors were all very friendly and caring.

The school is pretty small in size, and I think they don't really have a lot of students per term. I stay at its library for a half day and just met less than 10 people around. Once there were more but it was because they have a class on the computer lab (attach to the library). Maastricht is almost 3 hours away from Schipol, Amsterdam and it's very quite at evening/night. It's a nice place to study though. It's just a block away from Maastricht Randwyck train station (that bring you to Amsterdam, Utrecht, Roermond, Liege, Brussels, etc) and close to Bus stops. City center is 20-30 minutes away walking. Some professors here are helpful too. The management is so so.
