We recently employed the services of Christopher Williams (Studio 4 Architecture) for the design of a reasonably substantial extension and reconfiguration of our 1920's house. At the first meeting with Christopher he was very attentive when discussing our overall project aims and was clearly sympathetic with our proposals to retain the Edwardian character of the house. After this initial meeting Christopher produced provisional plans outlining his proposals for the work. He came up with some clever ideas (which we would not have come up ourselves) for using/reconfiguring the space available, however, he was very willing to listen to our feedback on his proposals and make slight modifications where requested. Once the overall design had been approved by us, Christopher prepared very detailed plans, which he shared with us. In addition, he produced a 3D mock-up of his proposals which were viewable using a free architectural software programme to which were given access. This really helped us to get a good sense of the spaces we were creating and the flow of the house.
Following a few minor tweaks Christopher produced detailed final plans and submitted them to the Harrogate Borough Council (HBC) Planning Office on our behalf. The plans were approved with only minor conditions. Our building work started several months ago and on the few occasions our builder has been uncertain about aspects of the plans, Christopher has been very willing to discuss these with him and to make site visits where appropriate. He has always responded promptly to such requests. Following approval of our plans we had a change of mind about one aspect of the work which required a Non-Material Amendment to be submitted to HBC. Once again Christopher prepared this on our behalf ensuring prompt approval of the amended plans.
Overall, we have been very happy with the service we have received from Christopher and would have no hesitation in recommending him. read more
