So based on the reviews, quite a bit has changed for this place. They are no longer in the mall, but on the South East side of Preston/121 right by the Pei-Wei. I came in here after getting lured by the Groupon, and I'll admit you do get a -lot- of photos with the Groupon deal, but it's of a single pose. I even laughed with the lady after my session and asked why I'd ever need that many copies of the same photo. Maybe if I had a giant family, but... I don't. Back to the photoshoot! When I arrived 15 mins early (as I was told to) I was handed a sheet to fill out so they could register me for their site (found out later it's an auto-renewing portal to store your photos and order more, so make sure you go home and cancel the $10/month auto-renewal). Then, I just waited. They were still working at picking out pictures from the group before me and so I didn't start my photoshoot with my kiddo until about 10 mins after my appt time. In the actual session the female photographer I had wasn't the friendliest but she did end up getting some great photos. I did most of the work of getting my daughter's attention and getting her to smile. There was an assistant (I think?) in there the whole time, but she didn't even speak. That was odd. Then we stepped out and waited while they loaded all the photos and went through them to (I guess) pick the ones where we weren't making weird faces and such. It took about 20 mins of waiting, but we were not asked to leave and come back (as other reviews mentioned). When it came time to look at all the photos I was disappointed to learn I'd only get 1 pose on the groupon, and I think the smallest package I could get that would give me a CD with all the images was $300. Adding some of their prints on just racked the price up higher and higher. I chose the larger prints without framing (their framing options are insanely expensive) and just ordered the odd-sized frames on arttoframe.com for 1/3 of what they wanted to charge. Honestly, this is the first photoshoot style thing I've paid for, I've always done them on my own, but I wanted to be -in- the photos this time and the groupon was tempting and well-timed for Christmas gifts. But based on how insanely expensive this was, I think I'll just do it on my own from now on. read more

This place is a total con job. We scheduled an appointment for a session to do some pictures with their teaser rate of $40 per package. In reality, there are "membership fees, touch-up fees, etc" so for us to get 5 sheets of prints cost us $150. The membership is $50/mo and if you don't pay it the prints are even higher. (Allegedly you can cancel it.) The cheapest package to get a CD of the pictures was $400+. None of that is clearly explained up front when you setup an appointment. You also have to schedule a 2nd appointment to review the pictures. And if you don't order everything up front then its even more expensive to try and re-order later. On top of all that their "studio" is a black and white canvas on pulleys in the store room of their store. Skip this place and go find a reputable one. read more

I wish I had read the reviews on Yelp before buying the Groupon! Had been here some weeks ago. The website to 'book' appointments doesn't really ensure that you're booking an appointment. All it does, is indicate to the studio when you would like to come in. The appointment isn't confirmed until they call you and set it up. I had already paid for the groupon, but they insisted on taking down my credit card information to confirm the booking. I was told that if I cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointment, I would be billed (not sure how much is the penalty). Once we went there, the front desk staff and photographer were nice. The photo shoot itself was a breeze and we had fun posing for the camera. We were asked to come back 15 minutes later to decide on which photo we wanted printed (with the groupon). This is where things started to get weird. The lady assisting us started to recite this long litany of items that we could buy and get for a certain price. When quizzed about the prices, her response was, "it depends on what else you buy from us". They don't seem to have a price list for anything. She writes down her quote on paper and shows it to you. Eventually, we bought another photo from her, which we realized only later was a non-standard size! She tried very hard to get us to enroll into their membership which entitles you to store credit. Overall, the studio has some good photographers and seem to do a good job with the photos. We weren't disappointed with the pictures. The unfortunate part is dealing with someone who gives you way too much information to process in a short time and tries to hardsell every single product in the store. read more

Purchased a Groupon for a photo session and Studio Collection Package for my son's 2nd birthday photos. The staff was nice enough, and the photographer Leah was great with my son even when he wasn't being very cooperative. The session was OK, but I do wish they would have had more props. The black and white backgrounds didn't bother me at all, but the lack of props was a little disappointing. Session over, went back 30 minutes later for the viewing. Not too impressed with their sales girl "SS" who had no personality and couldn't understand why I wasn't prepared to spend $700+ on my son's photos and buy their membership. The kicker was that they changed their photo delivery policy to SHIP ONLY about two weeks ago...conveniently enough when the Groupon came out. I had to pay $6.95+tax for something I had no control over. All in all, I will have a cute photo of my son and a nice 10x13 which they charge $59.95 for alone, but I personally won't be using them anymore. read more

I got a groupon for the outdoor photo session. The photo session went well and the photographer was professional and efficient. She did not make small talk but she was able to give us good suggestions of what and where to take our photos. After the photo session, we went to the studio in Plano to view our photos the next day. The guy over there started to sell us different packages , sell us membership $499 something like that so that we can get another photo session in and get free photo touchup, blar, blar, blar....I started getting nausea and dizzy when I heard about their "specials". In order to get out of the store, I just picked one of their "specials" and left paying them about $200 for 4 picture sheets. Oh well, whatever, I learn my lesson. I will never open my door for poor kids who are trying to sell books or magazines and the same goes for Studio One to One. I will never go to them again. After reading the poor reviews about Studio One to One, I feel compelled to write a positive review. I do not work for SOTO but I have used a Groupon twice, once in 2012 and once in August 2014. BOTH experiences were very positive. The first time we went, myself and my two girls (3 and 5), the photo session was a lot of fun and we were not pressured to buy anything that was not included in the Groupon. I was allowed to view all of the pictures and I was told about other options. I would have liked to buy the CD of all the photos but, wow, not for the price they want. But, I must say, their pricing is not out of the range for what other companies want for the CD. It is all about the copyright. Our current visit was even better because I told them, I have done this before and I did not intend to buy anything that was not included in the Groupon. They did not pressure me and I felt they they appreciated not having to spend time telling me about things that I would not buy. This approach saved everyone time. However, I do understand that when a photographer is new or young, they likely feel pressured to do the job as it has been explained. During the session, I allowed the photographer to pose us as she desired. When I felt a pose would not work for us or I had an idea in mind, I voiced it and she listened. I did not allow her to take full control of our photo session because she does not know the personalities or the dynamics of my family. When the 5 year old became bored after about 20 minutes I asked that we go ahead and call it a day. The photographer understood and we were done. For both visits, we did bring our own boas and small props and there were no issues with us using them. I must apologize to SOTO for all the features we left behind this time. Side note...do not buy a boa at Toysrus the day of a photo session. For the first visit, I simply called and booked the appointment, we left and came back to view the images. Of course, they were working with someone else and I do not expect that they will hold a spot for my return. I waited and soon, it was my turn. Image processing is not as instant as some seem to think. One must go through EVERY single image to toss the bad and keep the good and ok. This process often takes more than one pass. That is why you must go away and then come back to view your images. There may be over 100 that they must reduce to a manageable number. If you do not want to get home late, do not book an appointment for late in the evening. If you have a very busy day, do not book an appoint for 30 minutes before you have to be at the doctor. For our visit this month, I did book online and they called to let me know that the time that I chose was not available. i also found out that I had purchased the wrong Groupon. I was able to obtain the correct Groupon for what we wanted to do and keep my appointment for the next day. I, too, have a high-end DSLR camera, backdrops, and lighting that I could assemble and take my own photos. However, that takes planning, time, and patience with children. I would much rather pay $20 and let SOTO do the work so that I can enjoy being in the pictures. I do not care what camera they are using, they do a fine job on the pictures without me paying for retouching. In short, SOTO in Orlando Florida, has been an upstanding business and has provided the services promised each time that I have visited. They have never balked at accepting a Groupon nor have they tired to push me into anything that I did not want. As a matter of fact, I wonder how they stay in business doing photography for $19 bucks, less what they pay to Groupon. Of course, that is for them to short out. I would recommend that you give SOTO a chance but as with any business transaction, you go in knowing what you will and won't purchase. Do not expect that they will guide you down a path that you want to travel. IF you are not able to make your own decisions, cannot ask the questions that should be asked before you arrive, cannot articulate what you want in a photo and what you do not, then I would suggest you not go to any studio for photos. read more

I'm with everyone else, this place pretty much stinks! I bought a Groupon because the deal seemed pretty sweet. This was actually my first time ever using Groupon so I was pretty excited to see how it worked. I hadn't yet made my appointment, but were walking through the mall one night and decided to stop in to make the appointment in person. The woman was really nice but that dialed down after finding out we had a Groupon. We booked our appointment for the following week and she tried to keep the Groupon certificate I had. WHY? I wasn't taking the photos just yet. Of course, I snatched it back. On the day of the photo session, we showed up about 15 minutes early as instructed. They were still working on photos for another family and we ended up not getting our photos done until 30 minutes later, 15 minutes after our appointment time. The photographer was nice, but I was SO disappointed when I saw that the camera she had was the exact model as mine. The cheapest DSLR camera out there. As we went on, I realized that she was an amateur. I probably could have bought a tripod and taken better photos. She also kept tickling my daughter which in the moment of the session, I didn't see as a problem. However when we viewed them, she was laughing in every single photo and her eyes were closed in all but 2 or 3 shots. Some may like those kind of photos, but I am not included in that group. After the shoot, we were instructed to come back in about 20 minutes to view the photos. Now, this was at 8:30, 20 minutes would put us at 8:50. The mall closes at 9pm. So we come back at 8:50, and we were seated in some little room that reminded me of a bachelor with bad taste, studio apartment. They finally came in at 9PM. Mall closing time. Then tries to rush us into the 400 dollar something disc. Hecks no. For amateur photos? They think very highly of themselves. It's about 9:10 and we were still trying to decide and you can tell she's getting annoyed because she wants to go home. Umm...you guys are the ones that took so long, you don't think we're annoyed also? When we finally chose what we wanted, my total would have been about $30. Since the Groupon that I had bought covered pretty much everything. Of course, she tried to get over and forget to include the Groupon. Figures. She then tried to rush us into some lame membership, Christmas cards, the works. Nope, Nope, Nope. THEN, her system crashes..oh great. So finally when they get that whole thing situation, we ended up not leaving the place til almost 10pm. The photos came in a few weeks later and they were nice, but definitely only worth the low price I paid. read more

Agree with poster that it's a con job. Should have known better when they couldn't articulate what differentiates them from their mall competitor, Picture People. Lured us in with $19.99 session fee and then tried to sell us a $1,300 package!!!! Really?!?! We used a professional photog up to this point (for maternity and newborn pics), but just wanted to save a little $ and get a few nice pics of our four month old, who's growing leaps and bounds right before our eyes. We wound up paying $200-300 and getting a few family photos (1 8x10, 8 5x7's of various poses) and a mounted 16x20 of our son, which is beautiful, but they missed the small item we asked them to photo correct. The frame option was $100+ and there was only one to choose, which looked like it could easily have come from any of the craft stores, like Hobby Lobby or Michael's. We signed up for the membership because some of the images we wanted would be included or deeply discounted. We also were told we'd have access to images that we could order or share via Facebook. Still trying to figure out how to share one image and not all the images in our account. Also, we never received the 12 free holiday cards and there's no option to order cards at all via the 'membership' site. The website is a nuisance to maneuver and it's basically an offer to set up a family website. Um, we don't want a website, just access to our images. In the end, the pics are quite gorgeous, but to get more would cost beyond what I'm willing to pay. If you go, be prepared to get as many images as you can that day at the 'discounted' rate because after that you may not want to hassle with these folks again. I would give the images four or five stars, but the Studio gets two stars for being misleading and not knowing anything about the so-called membership/website you're tasked with figuring out once the session is over. We could have used our normal photog and had far more personalization, images and customer service. Lesson learned. read more

i'm a photographer myself....but just for the heck of it, my wife purchased this deal from groupon. but it was the worst service ever! we had signed up for the monthly subscription and i cancelled way in advance, but their partner, Hold My Memories, just kept on charging us $9.99! i called Studio One and they said they couldn't do anything about it. i'm like, WTF?! also, the photographer, he's not friendly and always in a hurry when we're the current customer he's taking photos at the time, hello? what i learned from these guys are.....SET UP MY OWN HOME STUDIO....and NOT DEAL WITH THESE GUYS ANYMORE! just pure lack of customer service and they dont care about customers, all they care about is their PRICEY photos that anyone could photoshop. as of this writing, im so p**** off as they just charged me $9.99, that was the 3rd time they had been charging me! these guys are cons! i read the other reviews and LIKED them as they were really far more accurate than my review. I was very dissatisfied with my daughter's pictures and the session. The session seemed rushed. Even though she had 2 outfit changes and over 100 shots, there were only 3 pictures where she was even smiling. At the end, they made us sit through this painfully manipulative photo montage, with awful, saccharine elevator music playing over it, where they told us it would be $400 to get the digital rights to the underwhelming photos they took. read more

I've been to this studio for all three of my boys' portraits. Seven years ago, they were pretty new and really did well to make sure that your photos turned out great. Through the years, they have progressively gotten worse. Now, all they want is your money. They will actually continue taking pictures knowing that your child has blemishes, runny nose, or even food on their face. They don't tell you since they make money on touch ups. Then, they charge you as much as they can to "touch up" the photos. Just recently, as I was filling out their information form, I noticed that they put in writing that they are not responsible for any blemishes or other things on your child's face, but if you are concentrating on posing with your child, you are looking at the camera. Not at your child. The photographer has a perfect view of you and your child through their lens. Last week, I took my youngest son for a photo shoot so I could use my credits. As usual, they make it difficult for you to use your credits. I was holding my son for the photo shoot since he was crying and the photographer kept taking pictures. I don't mind that, but he should have told me that my son had something (from his nose) on the cheek facing away from me. I couldn't see it until the photo shoot was done. They immediately say that they can touch it up at a cost. By this time I'm already angry and just want to get out. They say that they will touch it up for free if I purchase some sheets, but when I get my "free" 8x10 photo, it's not touched up at all. Poor kid has stuff all over his cheek and an obvious runny nose. Another issue is the "Hold My Memories" membership. DON'T DO IT!!! It is a scam. They will charge your card $9.00/month and when you try to cancel, they give you the go around and make it difficult. I have built up a sizable credit since I just can't find the time to go every month. As a member, we are entitled to a free sitting and 8x10 photo every month. If you do not go that month, you miss out on the free photo. They will credit your membership account what they charged your card for future purchases. But, there is a surprise! You cannot use your credits on anything that is "discounted". And they "discount", your CD as a member, so you cannot use your credits on that. They say the normal cost of the CD is $400. With the "discount", it is $200-$250. Then they drop another bomb and say if I cancel my membership, I lose all the credit I have accumulated, which is over $100 now. So, I'm stuck with blemished pictures and a stupid membership I do not want. They also charge you $16 for shipping on everything. It's mandatory. I suggest going to a more credible photography studio. You may pay a little more, but at least you will not be nickel and dimed every time you go. You will most probably have a photographer that has more pride in their work, so they will try their best to make you look your best during your session instead of taking shots knowing about blemishes so they can charge you for touchups. I consider myself a very patient and honest person. I don't like taking advantage of others and I prefer to pay a fair price for good services. I haven't been this disappointed with a business in years. And that is saying a lot. They have lost my business. Once I use up my credit, I'm gone!!! read more

We usually do our photos at he Arlington studio, but this year we tried the one in plano. Never again! First off we have been doing this with studio one to one for going on 4 years and this is the first year we were not satisfied with the studio. Arlington let us decide what props we wanted to use and we didn't need them to guide us in doing our photos. But the plano studio was horrible. One any suggestions for props were shot down by the new photographer. She has her own ideas, she was also in the middle of training someone which made our shoot even more awkward. She kept saying whimsical about 30 times throughout the shoot. When she said she was done, I looked at my boyfriend like we didn't even get to do our own ideas like we usually would. She even told me to take off my shoes so I wouldn't look so tall next to my boyfriend. But the reason I wore those shoes was to have them n the photo. She couldnt even remember my name and kept calling me jessica. Its kristy! But she sure enough remembered my boyfriends name. All she wanted to do was head shots and close ups. After that we gathered our belonging and waited on the couch. Where he kept scrolling through our photos. We barely got to see them unless we said wait go back to those before. Then another guy photographer came by to help because of course as she said so many times she was new. The guy seemed to want to speed up our appointment and get back to the other family that he clearly would rather be with. He showed how frustrated he was with us when we were having a hard time choosing photos. If we were able to do what we wanted then it would have been easier to choose. None the less his attitude stunk and it showed in his face. Meamwhilw the original photographer was bwhind me suggesting that we take our holiday cards and write on them with photo pwn instead of customizing it the way we wanted too. The guy then went back to the 2 dad family and laughed and had fun with them while another woman came up to finish our appointment. So far that's 4 people that kept on coming to help us get out of there. She was easier to deal with but after the experience we just wanted to get out of there. We paid $40 extra for the holiday card and the membership. And according to the website the holiday cards were supposed to be free with the membership. So what with the extra charge? Awesome studio! I find that Studio One to One are the best photographers around, after trying many out over the years. The team takes fabulous pictures and treat you like family. We have gone to them for over 5 years and so happy we found them. All photographers work the same way. The only difference is that this place takes AWESOME photos! We always ask for Rachel because my daughter adores her! For the price, I could not find a place anywhere for better pictures and on a cd! I always call to get an appointment, I like to work it out with a person not wait for online. As for waiting past my appointment. We did have to wait one time for the appointment when they were at the mall. But if my time runs over, I hope the person behind me understands as well. They work to get great photos, not just shoot and leave. If a child isn't cooperating, then I love that they take time and try to get the shot. We have never been disappointed. read more

I have had 3 sittings at this Studio this year. One for myself and two for my granddaughter. When I have memories captured at this studio, I feel at home. Both John and Rachel take the time to make sure everything is calm and set up everything nicely. They don't rush me either (I have experienced this at another studio). When it comes to the baby, they both have slowed down, and worked with her to make the setting calm. They also know when to laugh with me, to keep things "light and pleasant". Because of the patience, and kindness of these two, I have amazing photographs to commemorate the moments. This means so much to me, and I want to thank them for their kindness. They are more than just photographers, they are a part of our special moments. read more

I have been unsatisfied with the purchase. I purchased a Groupon and was prepared to spend under 100.00 for additional portraits. When the pictures were taken I was pressured for an hour and a half to purchase additional portraits to the Groupon in the amount of 400.00. The lady looked at me cross eyed when I told her I was not planning on spending that amount of money. She made me feel very uncomfortable as I had to tell her several times I was not going to spend that kind of money. She kept talking and talking and talking despite me advising her I needed to leave. She kept making me feel bad by telling me how she had worked 16 hour days and was super tired. She kept trying to sell me on the membership and touch up fees and stuff. After an hour and a half I purchased two additional photos just to get out of there, and get this over with. I spent an extra 40.00 for an additional 8 x 10 and what I thought was going to be a long narrow picture of my kids in black and white. The 6 x 12 picture was pitifully small compared to the large picture I was shown it would be in the studio. The photos took well over 3 weeks from the date I was seen in the studio to arrive. After the 2-3 weeks my paperwork says it should take to get the pictures I had to call the studio several times to be helped and was told I would be called back but was not. I do not plan to return to this location nor purchase from them again. read more

Prices varies every minute and they offer you collage with pictures, then they put pictures on CD withown collages .When you ask to change anything on CD they said that they can't do it , but if you want to purches collages then you have to pay additional $130 for each image. read more

Studio one to one is by far the best picture place i've gone to. Yes they will cost more than JC Penny but they also look better. I've been going to studio one to one since 2004 (in other states) and I have never had an issue. As with any photo place, they all advertise one package and try to sell you everything else. Use will power and say no, I want what I came for. It's really that simple. The props were good, the photographers were always professional and I've never had to wait a long time to view my photos. They give you the option of getting your hair and makeup done there but I prefer to do it myself. The best photo session I had was when I took pics for my husband for a special occasion and all I wore was the ribbon. It was my first time and I was apprehensive being half naked but they made me feel very comfortable. Also, we don't purchase the prints because that's where they make their money, we only order the CD and make prints later should we decide to do so. Overall, I really love studio one to one and we go every year for family and professional photos. We get exactly what we went in there to get and do not allow them to sell us stuff that we didn't ask for. I would highly recommend Studio one to one. read more

When I called, I was told it would take another 5-7 business day to send another copy... but they offered to produce a new one, that I could pick up at the store.... I purchased a groupon. I am a business guy that needed a picture in a suit for some promotions-just wanted a quick pop in and out. It required me to set an appointment online which I did, I even printed out the thank you for booking online page and arranged my schedule to make it happen. I never got a confirmation and call 6 days later to make sure and got the run around. THey wanted me to jump through hoops and call corporate to schedule an appointment. I threw the groupon in the trash and just ate the amount. I should have know better and looked at these reviews. I a not happy becasue I arranged my schedule for this. I was out at the Arlington location about two weeks ago tried to make a payment, pick up my pictures and checked on prices to do engagement pictures but when I pulled up the studio was closed!!!! The first time I was went to this studio the photographer was really nice the last time I went to make a payment after I got off work the manager who was very rude to me told me to come back in an hour or so to make a payment cause they were doing a risqué shoot I'm sorry are y'all going to pay for my gas to drive all the way from Burleson (where I work at) to your studio and being told to come back after I fought 5 o'clock traffic on a Friday afternoon and almost got into a wreck and now you're closed WHO IN THE WORLD DO I NEED TO CONTACT TO GET MY PICTURES!!!!! read more

Firstly, I would never step into a studio with untrained professionals to have my pictures taken in this day and age. But since it was a Groupon gift, I felt forced to use it. This place is a total joke. From the set up to the photographers, it's seriously sad. The male photographer was a little on the strange side. He rushed everything and didn't seem to like his job as much. He didn't want to let us use props and wasn't welcoming to our ideas. When we finished taking the pictures he sat up against the couch without saying a word to us as he scrolled the images. Hmm. OK? We just kind of led ourselves back into the lobby and sat on the couch as he later joined the other two ladies and they whispered and giggled in the computer and continued to ignore us. Were we waiting as they edited? Were they discussing how to target us with "discounted packages"? Truly bizarre and unprofessional. After they finished doing whatever they were doing to the photos, the sales lady Rachel walks over to us and was very welcoming and bubbly at first until she realized we weren't going to pay a gazillion dollars for mediocre images that were second rate at best. She comes up with random package options with a grand total number she believes fitting to our budget. There are no prices listed anywhere. It's another head scratcher but at this point I'm not surprised anymore. They showed us the images on a screen in the lobby where everyone and their mother were also free to view them. I was wanting more privacy but realized I should just get on with the torment so we could GTFO (get the f** out). The girl Rachel was training acted mute and didn't smile. She didn't even greet us when we entered. I thought what a perfect addition to this perfectly strange place. For a business that is undoubtedly dying and having to rely on social media, they should at least try to be more inviting. I can't even say they have customer service going for them. Photo studios like these will all soon become obsolete because smart and capable people will only realize that all they need to do is hire a reputable photographer and pay for the session and ALL dvd images. There are so many great and affordable photographers out there with their own private studios and so many places to print for a fraction of their prices. These so called studios make money on overly priced prints and will haggle and pressure you until you crack or decide to put your foot down and haul a$$ out of there. The only thing that makes me feel better is that the Groupon was only $15. Oh and one more thing, I am almost 100% sure the positive reviews for this place are far from real. read more

We have been using this studio from 4 years. Its a great place. We liked even after it moved to Plano. We had some amazing pictures taken by male photographer. Editing is always impressive. They were very co-operative and helping with out dogs and getting/keeping their attention for the photos. We love this studio. read more
