I've been fortunate enough to pop in here during a couple of visits to Buffalo. Lots of places/galleries on Allen Street seem to have strange hours, or are closed whenever I happen to be there, but Studio Hart is always open when I drop by. The studio is attached to a nice coffee shop next door - art is on the walls of the coffee shop as well - and you can walk freely between the two.
It's a small, intimate space with a big window in front, and it hosts rotating monthly exhibitions, it seems. The exhibition space is small, but that allows it to be focused at the same time. Depending on the artists and exhibitors, there are all kinds of art in the space - notecards, decorated little wooden 'people', jewelry, paintings, watercolors, collage, encaustic, and sculptures.
It's open during the Allentown First Fridays gallery walk, too. Though it had been a year since the last time I was there, the owner remembered my last visit, and even what I bought. That was a nice surprise, something that would hardly happen here in NYC...
I look forward to stopping by the next time I'm in Buffalo. read more
