I've recorded at countless studios across Canada as well as New York & California and everything else pales in comparison to how I feel when I work at Planet. As an artist, having a place where you feel comfortable and free to be creative is very important & that's exactly how I feel every time I walk in those doors, not to mention, everyone is always so welcoming. I've always felt that no one cares more about my project than me, however having worked at planet for the past 6 months, I realize that others want the absolute best for my project as well. I truly appreciate the attention to detail that's been given to my album and the dedication to make it sound the best it possibly can. Dan Cinelli has gone above and beyond to making sure I'm overjoyed with the outcome of my project & I'm truly appreciative. Needless to say, I highly recommend Planet Studios to everyone.

There was not at the time, but they did call me a year later and I moved in. I have a great space with natural light and great soundproofing. I know there are other drummers and bands in the building with me, but unless I am near their studios, I don't hear them. I highly recommend this location!

I signed a lease with my band and put my drums in a room. One day, my band decided to change music…read moredirection to something with more synth and less drum-heavy. So, they wanted to part ways with me, and as part of that, wanted me to move my drums out of the room. That would have been perfectly fine if they respectfully had asked me to leave, but that's not what happened. What really happened is they went to the management of this studio and asked them to change the lock combinations to prevent me from accessing the room with my belongings (despite us being on good terms before that). A respectable studio would have not accepted such a request given that my name was on the lease and I had full right to access my equipment. They would have asked me to simply come pick up my drums. What happened is I lost access to my own belongings despite having my name on the lease. This is theft, let alone obviously very disrespectful to me as a customer! And, I didn't hear back from the band about when exactly I could pick up my drums for a while, so I contacted the studio management to help me move my drums out since I am on the lease and have the right to my belongings, which oughta be respected. I didn't hear back for 2 days, telling me they could not help me get my equipment, which is again considered theft. Fortunately, my band members eventually got back to me, and I got my drums out of the space. Long story short. The place discriminates against their customers. They respect some of them while not respecting others despite being on the lease. A place with this kind of discrimination is unethical, and you cannot trust it with your belongings. Your items could get stolen as a result of this, and you will not receive respectful treatment if in their discrimination, they decide you don't deserve respectful treatment. Even if I was respected at this place, if I heard a story like this, I would pull all my items out in a heart beat and never rent any room there. A place with that kind of untrustworthy service should not be in business, and places like this go out of business all the time.

An extra bonus that they have a "plus" change-room and I had access to that as well since that was part of my membership which they also honoured. There's certainly bigger Y's than this one - including the one in my suburban community. But bearing in mind that they're in the heart of downtown Montreal, it's still a pretty good size with a bunch of amenities. The gym area is on the top (3rd or 4th) floor, so I caught the pool, a couple studios, gymnasium and others on the way up. The gym was fairly well supplied and should have most of what you're looking for. I mostly just use free weights and a running track anyway which they had available. The plus change-room was really nice! Funny enough it was quite a bit bigger than my local one, though the rest of the facility is smaller. The provide towel service, carpeted areas by the lockers, a large and well-functioning steam room and a large whirlpool. Just note that you'll need to have your own lock. My Y has a system where you can leave your card in the locker in order to bring a key with you, but this one you need your own lock. I'm not sure how it works for the other change-room. Glad I made my visit here to get energized and make a small dent in burning the excessive calories I took in on my trip to Montreal. Staff were really nice and helpful too.

Recently they changed their pay structure to be biweekly. If you're regular price individual, it comes out to a little over $30 for two weeks, around $60 a month. The facilities are decently taken care of. Nothing is too messy and they frequently have cleaners going in and out of the change rooms. The studios are pretty clean and spacious (though some classes are PACKED, even if it's inside the gym.) the change rooms are okay, I've never had issues getting a locker before. There are a variety of classes you can take and all of them are fun! I've tried quite a few of them and I don't remember any being bad at all. The teachers are great and are bilingual. Because classes are often busy, they can't really focus too much attention to you during classes. However, they are always open to speaking with you after classes. With the Y membership, you also get 10 friend passes to use and 2 fitness instructor training sessions. You have to renew your membership yearly (no, it doesn't just roll over). Staff are extremely kind and helpful in the front desk as well.

Toby and his team are the most knowledgeable, professional and capable guitar techs in the city…read more I've trusted them to setup several of my guitars, electrics and acoustics, over the last few years. They do a stellar job every time. Most recently, I had to bring a new Martin OM28 in for a repair because the high E string was too close to the edge of the fretboard (such that if I did a downward pull-off, the string would roll off the crowned edge of the frets, killing those notes). Toby immediately spotted that the nut slots were improperly spaced (which was kind of disappointing for a brand new Martin, but at least Martin covered the repair). The repair and setup was done PERFECTLY! I couldn't believe what a difference it made...to the point, I felt compelled to email Toby to thank him and to post this review (something I never do). Montreal guitarists need to know about this place. They are the authorized service center for all the big name brands (including Martin, Taylor, Fender and Gibson). Yes, they unfortunately have a two month waiting period at the present time, but that's only because they have a stellar rep. But not to worry, you don't have to be without your guitar during that period. Just contact them to make an appointment and reserve your spot. Then they'll contact you when it's time to bring your guitar in and it will be ready for pickup within a week for simple repairs or setups. All I can say is that it's well worth the wait! If you want your guitar to play and sound its best, do yourself a favor and take it to Montreal Guitar. Thanks Toby and gang! You have a loyal customer for life (for the record, I am not affiliated with Montreal Guitar in any way...I'm just a very happy customer who wants to spread the word to my fellow Montreal guitarists). Happy picking!
