My family and I moved from Nevada to Oklahoma City. We were in need of a 3 night stay before our apartment was ready on the 20th. We chose Studio 6, not because we had great expectations, but because we wanted a clean bed for us, our two children, and our pets. We made our reservation online, and we checked in right before midnight after a day long drive. The room we were given was a pet room, right by the front office. It wasn't very clean, but as I was saying before, we were looking forward to a clean bed to rest on. My husband had to wake up early in the morning the next day to catch a flight back to Nevada and drive our U-Haul to Oklahoma City. So the next night it was me, the children and our pets in the room. In the morning I asked the cleaning staff for clean bedding and towels that I changed myself. The 3rd night, my husband was to return with the U-Haul, which he did, right after 5AM the morning of August 20th. Upon turning on the light to get him in bed next to one of our girls, we saw bed bugs crawling in the bed next to her head. We killed the ones we saw on the spot since they were right by her head, then we looked at her. She was completely covered in bug bites. Immediately my husband went to the front desk two steps away from our room to let them know about the incident. The front desk attendant came to take a look. She saw the blood smears on the bed, and my child covered with bites. She gave us a key for another room on the spot, and went to call her manager. The manager in the hotel that night was sleeping a story above us in the hotel. His name is Cecille Haynes (that is the way he spelled his name). He took 45 minutes and 3 separate calls from the front desk clerk to come downstairs and speak with us. By the time he finally came, my children and I had switched rooms, and had taken a shower. The first thing he did was reprimand his employee for waking him up when his schedule didn't start until an hour and a half later, at 7AM. Then he followed my husband into the original room, turned off the light, and with a flash light looked over the sheets for the bed bugs. He took a minute to do so, and concluded there was nothing there, and if something indeed bit her, it wouldn't be bed bug bites, but a different type of bug, original to Oklahoma State, a bug that we need to get used to, since we will encounter this mite everywhere in this state, therefor it is a normal occurrence. He then stepped into the room right next to that one, the room we were moved to, looked at the bites on my daughter's body, and didn't say another word. He didn't apologize once during this entire time for what happened, for the inconvenience, for how distressed my family obviously was. He simply looked at my husband and said: the most I can do for you is take one night off, and that's doing you a favor. He said we were clearly trying to pull one on him since we didn't come and complain about the bed bug bites earlier in our stay. He said we only waited until that morning so we can get a free stay. Then he went to the front desk to look over our file and told us we are trying to pull another one on him because we didn't register our pets with the stay. Yet I had the reservation confirmation showing pets as part of our stay. We walked our dog by the front desk on a daily basis at all hours, and not once were we told that there was a mistake made, NOT by us, and our pets need to be charged as well. So he told us he'll do us another favor and not charge our pets. Then he implied we lied to him both, first with the bed bug bites, and then having our pets in the room. This entire conversation, between him coming down from his room, to him finishing dealing with us, took around 1 hour. In this entire time, Cecille did not apologize to us a single time, instead we were called liars and given the cold shoulder. We told him we will take the situation to his higher ups as soon as our move was complete, and he told us with a grin to please go right ahead and do so since nothing would come of it, we could be sure. As soon as we were settled in the new apartment, we contacted the main Motel 6 headquarters. They sent back a letter directing our situation to the owner of this particular franchise. His name is Sanjay Patel. His manager at that location, Mr. Cecille Haynes was correct in stating mothing will come out of contacting his higher ups. Mr. Sanjay Patel had the same non-existent customer service skills. I didn't even get to utter 1 full sentence over the phone before he interrupted to say that he will NOT refund our stay, but he will try get me a written apology from his employee. He himself didn't apologize, or let me express myself completely without being shutoff in the same rude manner. I told him I have pictures of my daughter's bites, and the entire night's encounter recorded on my phone. He did not care. He is a firm believer that no social media review, or a more legal complaint will be able to make a difference. read more
