Evolve Fitness Studio - members crushing a small group session

Evolve Fitness Studio

I've been a member of Evolve for about 15 months and regularly take Yoga, Weekday Warrior (more…read morestrength based) and Alpha Burn (cardio and strength) classes. The yoga instructors each have a unique style which I appreciate. It's fun to mix it up each week. The classes are a little different than your typical vinyasa flow and might combine a slower flow with strength and core work, use of blocks, straps and other props, hip, heart and shoulder openers to counter all the sitting we regularly do, deep breathing, alignment and relaxation to end the class. Classes are small and Instruction is really individualized. Modifications are suggested if one can't do everything. The Weekday Warrior and Alpha Burn classes are similar, with Alpha adding more cardio into the mix. These are circuit-type classes where the students rotate exercises throughout. I love this time-based format because you work as hard as you can during the exercise period and then there's a short rest before the next exercise. Each class is a little different although exercises are repeated. These are small group classes with excellent instructors who correct form, suggest slight modifications if needed and really support your goals. Since I started at Evolve, my strength and flexibility have increased tremendously. I train consistently and safely. I have not suffered any injuries. Weight loss has not been my goal but I have lost body fat and increased muscle mass. Most important, I am healthy. At 50, my bloodwork is better than ever. Evolve is a wonderful community of trainers, instructors and clients of all ages with various fitness levels and goals. It's a welcoming place.

He works not to "make it burn" but for you to be in good form, efficient, and organized, while gaining strength, balance and coordination. From a dance and movement background, I am impressed by his understanding of developmental movement and getting back to basics. He understands that getting better from that place has a more lasting impact. He is constantly doing research and doesn't give me drills, but tailors the work to what I need. I see him do this with everyone. At times it seems like I am not doing much, but I trust my body which says that I am stronger and healthier with his work. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Joining this team has been one of the best things that has happened to me in a while. I went from not working out for over 3 years to waking up every other day at 4:45 am just to make it to class! Briana is a BEAST. Not only does she push me, but she leaves no team member out! I still have no idea how she knows everyone's name, it's like a one on one but as a whole! I feel invigorated during and at the end of each class! Her playlist is LEGIT and you feel pumped with every beat. She even shares her Spotify playlist, so that if we enjoy a song, we can listen to it for the rest of the day. I have nothing but the best things to say about this facility and every single person who works there. Diane is always willing to help, whether it's by handing out fresh, clean towels to texting me 10 minutes before class to make sure I'm on my way! She's truly so lovely. A great big family is how I can best describe the feeling. It's great to be part of something again, thank you all for slowly getting me back to where I want and am meant to be! Beyond grateful!

A few of my girlfriends tried the BSK location, then some of my daughter's friends moms wanted to try as well. We came 15mins before class (as advised) so we can get a tour of place and how things run before taking class. They have bathrooms (with a shower) coat racks and lockers to place your belongings while in class. The staff and coaches were very friendly! We've had the pleasure of taking almost all the coaches and every class is different, every coach style is unique but they give you the individualized attention and motivation you need during class. The first class was an intense workout but I ended up taking advantage of their first month $99 promotion and plan on continuing. I love the way I feel especially after each class knowing that I was able to accomplish it, from the "assault" bike to the ski mill, ski erg to the erg rowing machine. I live for the community - the camaraderie feel. It gives me the Orange Theory meets CrossFit vibe. 100% give it a try, you will feel as if they rocked your world after the class but I can guarantee you- you will be back. Cheers Alpha Fit Club staff and coaches! Keep up the great work

I'm a total novice at Pilates, so Tara took time to explain proper form and alignment, which I really appreciated. We spent the first part of the session doing mat exercises, and then she led me through some exercises on the Reformer. Tara was friendly, encouraging, and patient, and her explanations were very clear. She adjusted the exercises to my level (absolute beginner), but she also made sure that my form was totally correct, and I'm really grateful for that. Setting up the appointment through the Align website was easy, and I was relieved to find that the studio has its own parking lot, so I didn't have to worry about finding street parking. The studio space is clean, welcoming, and large. I'm looking forward to checking out the group classes at Align and maybe taking some more private sessions.

I had done two Lagree classes prior to trying SLT as well as a Solidcore class at one of their LA studios. I opted for SLT this time only because they had a 2/$40 intro deal which was a little more cost effective than paying the drop in rate at the Solidcore studio nearby. I showed up for my first of two classes, and the reception girl was nice and gave me a refresher on the megaformer but warned me "you'll be lost and that's okay". She actually advised me to "copy others" if that became the case. That should have been my sign to leave, as Lagree and Pilates are both about having proper form, not just "copying" another participant which can lead to injury. If your cueing is that bad where participants are "lost," perhaps you shouldn't market it as an "all levels" class. Then I find out the instructor I had signed up for was switched to Farah, which should have been my second sign to leave. Dang, was she is rough. And not in a good way. She's forceful, impatient, and comes off very pompous. She actually had us hold movements to a beat at one point, like what? You're supposed to count at a steady pace; what instructor worth their salt coordinates the movements to their playlist? I spent the first 20 minutes debating on whether I should just walk out before I decided to ignore her vibe and just sweat it out. Instead of leaving empowered to take on my day, I left demoralized and disappointed. Then I took Alexandra's class on my second of two visits, and it was night and day. She's truly the only reason I'm giving SLT 3 stars and not 1. She was the saving grace, as she offered fantastic cues and did good demonstrations that were easy to follow. If I'm "copying" anyone, it should be the trained instructor. Alexandra was also attentive to everyone and offered gentle corrections when needed. She was courteous and asked if I'm okay with hands-on corrections, which I appreciated as well. I thanked her for turning my experience at SLT around and left her class feeling strong and inspired. Can't say I'd ever go back to SLT though. I prefer studios that are a bit more professional and prioritize safety and form. Since those two classes, I racked up 6 more Lagree classes in California on top of my normal Pilates routine. Yet to have any experience get close to rivaling the awful class I had with Farah, and I vow to walk out of any instructor's class that times a movement to "when the beat drops."

The lessons are a bit more expensive than the other leading kids swim school, but there are fewer kids so it is not nearly as chaotic. The kids definitely get great instruction and learn to swim in no time. Our son is not yet 3 and can nearly swim on his own after the lessons that he received here. The only thing that is a little strange with their structure is that your time and instructor are not guaranteed from one season to the next, so if you like your time slot and want to keep it, you need to wait in line on sign-up day. The benefit is that everyone has an equal chance of getting their preferred time each season and if you don't get it one season you have a chance the next season. Also, you need to pay for the full season up front, which is a big expense compared to other swim schools where you pay monthly. All in all, we've had a great experience here and would highly recommend it to get you child swimming well.
