I wanted to give to St. Vincent de Paul since I have a Vincentian connection; however, Howard Brown, SVdP, etc. have more restrictions on what they take than Salvation Army does. And rather than sort things out and take them to multiple places, off to SA it is. Luckily it's easy to drop off things off here and it's nearby. They have several carts outside in which you can leave the items you're donating. I don't know if that's a pandemic precaution, or if that's how they've always done it. Anyway, I think they accept items pretty much throughout their open hours but double check on their website.

Now, onto the store! It's huge and it's been around forever. Lots of clothes and lots of furniture too. There are also two other locations, but if you are doing the "antique crawl" along Clark, this is the one to hit.

Honestly this is probably one of the best spots for clothes. There are so many unique finds if you want to be a little more extra or a lot extra and go for a full on costume. There period pieces are amazing. Classic print, roaring 20s, funky 70s, radical 80s. I mean they got some great pieces. They used to have an additional basement level but I think that still being renovated. I know you're hanging out on Belmont hitting the bars and food. Perfect time to swing in and browse and support a great local business and especially support yourself in looking good and unique!

Compared to Goodwill they're buying clothes based on trends with no stains or signs of wear so this may lower your chances of what you sell. Crossroads Trading is very clean and well organized with around 10 fitting rooms so there is no bottleneck waiting in line to try on clothes. I appreciate Crossroads Trading organizes its clothes by size as other second-hand stores like Second Street do not. I have found some really great finds here - a Loft Faux Leather jacket for $40 (originally $180) and Lululemon leggings for $20. Because this location is located in Lincoln Park there is always a line to sell clothes. My dream is that they hire more cashiers to help get more patrons selling clothes through the line faster. I waited 45 minutes mid-day on a Tuesday to sell clothes. I do admire that they have a digital sign-in system to contact you when it is your turn to sell, and a rack to put your clothes on while you wait because then you can bop around Lincoln Park doing other errands.

Overall, the space is really crowded, but that just means more treasures to unearth. I did not have a lot of time to check out much of their clothing selections, but the few pieces I looked at seemed overpriced for resale. For example, a pair of LL Bean cargo pants was $14. Though, there are apparel deals on certain tag colors, with the best of these discounts being $1 for a certain color on the day I was there. I suspect if one took the time, there are good clothing deals to be found utilizing the discounts. Their housewares and organization-type items seemed to be priced excellently. I found two great kitchen storage containers for $1 each. I'm a sucker for statement necklaces, and it seemed their costume jewelry was fairly priced as well, with many of the neat necklaces I looked at being priced at $3.
