I got a chance to meet Dan last summer at A Piece of Work. I was in town for the Weekend and had…read moresigned up for a photography class that he was teaching. Unfortunately, I ended up to be a class of 1 and the whole thing was canceled. I didn't discover that until I showed up and he happened to be there anyway. At least I had a nice conversation with this retired Farmer and photographer extraordinaire. During the 2012 visit, Gayle and I returned to A Piece of Work. Gayle headed straight for the front Jewelry Counter and I went straight over to Dan's Gallery space. I was immediately taken with the "Afternoon Delight" photo which featured a dock and a fishing boat contrasted on a serene amber-accented lake. That's one part of Iowa that I remember fondly. And at slightly less than $200 Total for the ~18X24 picture, matting, frame, and shipping, it was a gorgeous "heck of a deal". It also helped Gayle feel a lot better about her multiple and equally well considered necklace purchases. The bonus was a hand typed thank you letter from Dan that was waiting for us when we got home. As it turned out, we briefly met that day as he held the door open for us as we entered the Gallery. We'll definitely be back next year and I look forward to a more personal discussion of Dan's impressive work.
