Over the 3-4 years I've been in Brighton I have actually found myself there a fair bit, for routine appointments or more serious things, and I've had a range of experiences during my time there. The surgery itself is well laid out, comfortable and clean. The reception staff are helpful and generally pleasant, despite being very busy with the constantly ringing phones. There is an upstairs and downstairs waiting area, both of which are comfy enough. As you come into the surgery, you can check yourself in for your pre-booked appointment on the machine on the wall (under the stairs). This usually functions fine and is a smooth and easy way of letting the doctor or nurse know you're there. It also directs you to which seating area you should be waiting in, either upstairs or downstairs, so there's no confusion. The nurses I've seen here have all been wonderful. Very nice, very patient and not patronising at all. The doctors, on the other hand, are a bit of a mixed bag. I've seen a few that are a little abrupt and slightly condescending. I understand that they must have a lot of time wasters and hypochondriacs coming in (as with any doctors surgery) but it's never nice to be made to feel foolish for booking an appointment. That being said, I was once really rather ill here and I found myself getting a taxi straight from the surgery to A and E. On this visit, the staff (including the doctor) were all very attentive and not patronising in the slightest (perhaps because of my serious condition). They got me water and sent me with a handwritten letter explaining what was wrong - all very kind and professional. Since this incident I have always been treated very well in here, again perhaps because they can see from my files that I'm worth taking seriously. In terms of booking appointments, this is relatively straight-forward to do over the phone and there are usually slot available pretty quickly, especially if you express that it's an urgent thing. The appointments are also pretty on time which, as anyone who's ever been to a doctors surgery knows, can be a bit of a rarity! All in all, I like this practice. I might look at others closer to my new flat, yes, but for now, I am more than happy to stick with Albion Street Surgery. They may not be the most perfect doctors surgery in the world, but they're certainly not the worst and I'd say they were doing a pretty good job of things.

I have never had problems here and the system has always been very helpful in times of need. Would definitely recommend if you live in the vicinity. Otherwise, you can apparently now choose the surgery you most desire, so if you're well enough, go to this one.

They need more GP's there, or to stop taking on new patients. The receptionists can be blunt at time's too, but i suppose everyone is entitled to have a bad day.....apart from this, i am very happy with my DR's.

I used to be registered with this surgery until a few years ago when I moved away from Brighton…read more After returning here I registered with a another surgery because I was told that I lived outside the catchment area of the Park Crescent Surgery. I was not happy with the treatment (probably because the doctor was not trained to deal with the kind of issues I came there for) and found out that I could register with a surgery outside my area if I found that they were more sympathetic. I was very happy as I found out that the Park Crescent Surgery accepted new patients and were happy to re-register me there, even if it is a longer walk for me. The staff are always friendly and it is easy to tell that they enjoy their job (other than some pretty sour or 'pretend-friendly' receptionists which I have encountered at other surgeries). Most of my praise has to go to Dr. Lipscombe though, who not only always has an open ear for all my issues, but is also the most friendly GP whom I have ever come across and she always spares some compliments which brighten up my otherwise often grim days. She is a strong supporter of transgender rights and an expert in that field so I can't recommend her enough to anyone with gender issues, although I am not sure whether she is taking new patients as she now only works Mondays and Wednesdays. However I have also found the other doctors at this surgery to be very competent so it is worth registering there anyway (and don't forget that the staff are incredibly firendly too - it does make a huge difference!).

Having lived in London for three years before moving South, I don't think I saw the same doctor more than once and getting an appointment was always a massive hassle - either having to book two weeks in advance or having to wait around in the surgery all morning to be seen. But Beaconsfield medical practice seem to have all these problems sorted. You can ring in the morning and get an appointment for that day, at a set time, and you are nearly always promptly seen. I had an allocated doctor who I have seen on nearly every visit (unfortunately, she is now off on maternity leave, but hey I can't really complain!). You can even book and order repeat prescriptions on line which saves a lot of time and hassle. Plus, the receptionists are always polite and have a smile for the customers (yes, I know, I nearly fainted...!) Downstairs there is a pharmacy so you can pick up prescriptions immediately, ideal for the elderly or less mobile patients, and they even offer a free delivery service should you require it. Its nice to find a service that takes the hassle out of life when you need it.

The walk-in service I nailed after a couple of visits. Also, the receptionist did tell me how long the wait was to be seen each time. Most of them are nice, just been unlucky one time when one of them was very upset about a challenging client. The nurse who has seen to me was very efficient. She advised me to go to A&E. Then another day, I had an appointment to see a doctor (whoop!!) and that was a very sour encounter. He was rude and obnoxious asking me what's wrong with me. All I wanted was a sicknote! I didn't even have a physical examination. He was half quick to whip out that sicknote though. I know a good doctor when I see one cos if the nature of my job. Then I find out that he's just a locum (yeah boi!) so next time I can ask the lovely receptionist can I not be seen by that old quack again.

After a while I registered with the surgery, and to be honest my experience so far hasn't been great. Having a long term health issue it's important for me to see the same doctor so they are familiar and understand what's going on. However I'm not sure the Drs at this surgery stay on for very long, because over the course of about 18 months I have seen a different Dr every single time I have had an appointment here. Some have been nicer than others, some have been plain rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I am currently registering with another surgery elsewhere because I don't think the service provided here as a GP is good enough - also it never seems very clean and the building has deteriorated a lot since I started going here. Something always seems to be broken. As a drop in it's adequate.
