They run very thorough tests and can detect issues in the cars before anything breaks down (check the projects they are doing at the end of the shop that can only be done by highly experienced professionals). My clutch went out on my 2008 PT Cruiser. I called my friend that own's Wilson Tires for a referral to somebody that could to that work and he told me to Call Stuart's. I called and spoke to Doug. He told me that he would be happy to help me confirm my diagnosis of a bad clutch, but he wouldn't be able to do the work for a week because he was going out of town for Christmas vacation. I took it by an hour later, he confirmed what I thought and gave me a quote for replacement. Unfortunately, I needed the car right away and couldn't wait for the week so I called around to see who could do it quickly. Doug's diagnoses allowed me to do that and I sincerely appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule right before leaving for vacation, and I look forward to taking my car back to him the next time I have any service needs. About six years ago I was recommended by a UCSC instructor about Stuart Automotive. I was relatively new in Santa Cruz and our car needed some work done. Doug and his employees at Stuart Automotive are hands down the best auto service I have experienced. They are honest and extremely fair. There have been many a times when despite having a booked schedule Doug has been able to take our car in. Doug will take the time and explain what the problem is so that you fully understand what is going on. This happened no more than two months ago, when I realized I had to get a smog certificate to send to the DMV which was due that very same day. Doug took care of it, and I was able to go to the DMV office and pay the registration... His rates are very competitive and all of the parts he uses are top of the line. Many times he has had to order the part directly from the dealer, pick it up then install it all in the same day! Needles to say we are very happy we found Stuart Automotive. Especially since we drive our cars pretty hard with long over the hill commutes. Our VW Passat is nearing 200K miles, so it is nice to have a place where we can take our cars for their regular maintenance and for brake, and engine stuff. read more

This guy is going on my Christmas card list! 2nd time back to Doug now- and this time I had a wonderful noise coming from my Jeep that sounded like something underneath was going to just fall to the ground! And of course it's day 1 of my work week, and of course I'm short on "rides around town favors" this week.. So, I call Doug at 2pm Thursday, explain my predicament, and he squeezes me in first thing the next morning, a Friday no less.. We had a problem while we were traveling with our windshield wipers and took it to the dealer who said it would take at least two days for them to look at it. The mechanic at the dealership recommended we take the car over to Stuart. We drove over, talked to the mechanic at Stuart, he looked at the windshield wiper mechanism, took the cap off (I am fairly ignorant) and tightened the bolt. 10 minutes and we were on on way.
