Oh, and it was! We got the hugest piece of strudel I have ever seen for less than 2 euro (most others I saw in Wien went for 3+ euro). The pastry was light and flaky, the filling was fresh, the apples still had a little crisp to them, and it had a lovely cinnamon flavor.... If you are in the neighborhood, don't miss this small shop's baked goods.

It is a must visit for all coffee and cupcake lovers, especially those looking for gluten free, lactose free, or vegan options. It is a small place with not many seats, but my friend and I had no problem sitting in on a Saturday afternoon. Takeaway is easy and also an option if there are no more places to sit. There is also no bathroom, but visitors to this bakery have an option of using the Ulrich bathroom just around the corner.

Barke's has amazing spinach-cheese and also tomato-cheese "strudel"-pastry-things, as well as eclairs and chocolate croissants if you want something sweet. Even their simple Kornspitz and semmel rolls are tasty, and I've become a bit of a regular when it comes to their coffee: pretty much every time I pass through Schottentor in the morning, I stop for a large cappuccino (€2). Don't worry if the line is long - the service is quick, and the pastry (no matter which one you choose) is well worth it!
