    Admiral Custom Roofing - Colors

    Admiral Custom Roofing

    (1 review)

I started my interaction with Admiral Custom Roofing in November. They examined my roof, found…read morehail damage and helped me work with my insurance company for a claim. I contracted them for a full roof replacement, including drip edge code upgrades, while contracting another company to replace my old gutter system. They were supposed to place the drip edge around my new roof loosely so that the gutter company could properly install the gutters and tack down the drip edge, insuring a proper install. The workers showed up on Dec 13th and finished the work within a day and a half. This is where all the good experiences ended. The workers were quite efficient and friendly but spoke no English. Apparently one of them was the designated translator, but I could never actually figure out who it was. The salesman/crew leader I had been working with hung out all day and passed messages to the workers, but the instruction to install the drip edge loosely was lost in translation. The workers simply did not install it on 80% of the roof. I personally did not realize this on that day, nor did the foreman. I only realized it when the gutter company showed up to install the gutters and told me. Additionally, one of the corners of the roof was raised significantly higher than the rest of the roof, giving me concern that that corner would leak. When I called Admiral back, I began to get the run around. I finally got a (new) crew leader/foreman out on Jan 16th, who verified the drip edge was not installed, but said it was "unnecessary" despite being code. When I told him I paid for the drip edge and wanted my money back or drip edge installed, he said he would have to check with the front office to make sure refunding me was not "insurance fraud." Several days later when I called the front office, they had no idea what I was talking about. When I pressed the issue, I was promised twice that workers would show up to install the drip edge, even took time off of work to meet them, and they never did. I finally got fed up and got the owner's cell phone. The owner had no idea what I was talking about, got angry and hung up on me. Only when I threatened legal action did he finally calm down enough to try and figure out what was happening. He promised me that he and the two crew leaders that I had worked with would show up, along with a representative of the gutter company, to discuss the issues. On the designated day (Jan 29th) the owner did show up, but did not bring the crew leaders. He stated they were attending "training", but I truly believe he just did not want to have to have them explain what had happened over the last few months. Nevertheless, we decided that the corner was not caused by the roofing company, but rather just the way the house was originally built, and that yes, the drip edge would be installed ASAP. ASAP turned out to be 6 weeks later March 14th, after several follow-ups on my part and when they could fit me in their schedule. The roof install began December 13th and was finally finished March 14th. I believe the workers who installed the roof were competent, it seems to be tight and does not leak. Time will tell, and I fear a leak because I will have to deal with Admiral Custom Roofing again for warranty work. The bottom line in my experience is that I believe this company is being held together only by the efficient work crews. Management is a nightmare. The crew leaders are dishonest and incompetent, and the owner is completely disconnected from what is happening with his company. In fact, he passed on later that the two "crew leaders" I dealt with were stealing from him and he would be pressing charges. Though he offered no apologies, compensation or priority scheduling for making me work with potential criminals. My informed opinion is that if you are looking for any type of roof work in the greater Memphis area, stay far away from Admiral Custom Roofing. There are plenty of well-run, respectable companies out there I'm sure will do work that is just as good, minus the frustration.
