Done with this bar. I really want to like this place because the selection is often better than you can find ANYWHERE else in Dallas. That said, it's all stored just -- WHEREVER -- kegs, slim kegs, crates, boxes -- stacked all over the place. I've had wrong pours, filthy glasses, the roof leaks, the AC drips condensation. There's so much standing water in this stupid bar, I've been bitten by mosquitos here, IN THE DEAD OF WINTER. After pointing out to the bartender my infected beer tonight, I was told "I don't know what that beer is supposed to smell or taste like" and "that's the risk you run on a first batch version of this beer". Can't wait till this place runs itself into the ground so someone can come in and make this place the great bar it deserves to be. read more

Impressive beer selection and laid-back vibe in the windowless, pub-esque interior. I tried a few beers as I am not a beer expert and recommendations by the bartender were spot-on. Overall, a nice dark bar with televisions on the way and very friendly service. Tried the torta and it was very good as was the included elote...cucumber salad was also a winner. Patio is simple and in the shadows early. There is plenty of parking but, if you're going to park behind the bar, I'd recommend driving your SUV. read more

Stopped in for the first time with my friend Chupitos. The clientelle was much more diverse than what I thought! Plenty of room to move around and an awesome patio that sits right on Fitzhugh. Strangeways has a good variety of draft beers; different great quality brews every time I visit. They serve a small crowd, so when they ARE busy, be wary because they aren't staffed for the challenge. However, the fries are great and the atmosphere lives up to its name. Strange, but good. Perfect nightcap for the best Sunday! Hungry after the Cowboy victory over the Giants, we stopped by for a beer and food. Fantastic selection of beers on tap. I had the Ballast IPA. Went perfectly with my Pork Torta which was OMG delicious! Staying in a hotel with my GF, I opted out of the beans for her sake. The pork was so delicious and the yucca fries were a nice hearty change from regular fries! My GF had the BLT and a side of spicy creamed corn! This place is really cute. They have tons of choices for beers and the bartenders are really good. Its a good place to go for a few drinks with friends. I had their chicken and mozzarella sandwich - it was pretty good, but a little on the small side for price. My friend had the hummus and it was really good. This was my first time to Strangeways. I never realized it, but I have been across the street visiting my friend who lives at Easton several times over the past year. I should start off with the price, because this is going to be a little more pricey than people are used to, but still less than what would be regarded as higher-end and higher-cost places. Their regular pours are $8, and you can get a flight of five 5-ounce pours for $23.50. The layout of the venue is nice, and the patio is very nice. I went with the Dallas Beer Club, and we took over the majority of the patio. The place was not too crowded, even with the large number that we brought. I ordered all of my drinks at the bar, as did everyone else in my group who I saw place orders. The two girls and one guy behind the bar were extremely helpful and friendly. The gentleman in the red and black button-up shirt was particularly helpful, and I commend him. I did not catch any of their names, so I apologize to management. The only negative aspect of the experience was when I tried some french fries that one of my friends received with their food order, and they were not very good (dry, over-seasoned, and over-deep-fried). Then again, I only went for the drinks, so that really is no loss to me. It would be incredibly unfair if I did not say that they had a ridiculously amazing selection of beers on tap, but I have to also say that I went during their week-long special of all barrel-aged and Cask beer. read more

Worth a try. Friday night, went early (around 5) and pretty low key but a builder and by after 9 starting to fill up particularly on the patio outside. There are lots of places that have a good beer selection these days but I think the turnover is pretty good here so you'd probably find a few you hadn't tried as I did. I liked the background music over the hours there with a group (You may hear some Smiths or Depeche Mode) and crowd was mixed enough and not "look at me" (which was a relief) but with enough variety to make it interesting. read more

We go here when we want a cool, relaxed place to have some good beer. They always have different stuff on tap and the selection is always unique and tasty. I tried a creme brule stout here at one point and it was absolute heaven. They also have some good bar food that is always solid. It's definitely one of our favorite neighborhood bars. read more

This place is great. With over 40 taps that are constantly rotating through some of the hardest to find varieties of micro brews from all over the country, this place is a hands down winner for best beer bar in Dallas. The food is also pretty awesome and more traditional Hispanic cuisine than tex mex. They make a good tamale and their elote (spicy corn) is awesome. Also, a little different than most, but the grilled cheese is a must. Be prepared for the best of dive bar feels, and actual good music playing (aka no pop music) at a level that is enjoyable and you can still hold a conversation. You know, like if you actually want to learn anything about the person you are trying to hook up with. I know, crazy right! Definitely recommend to all interested in good food and great beers, but safe to bring friends who like liquor as they have a good selection of that as well. read more

I have generally been impressed with the bars in the Knox-Henderson area, and this place was no exception. We came in for a Friday happy hour to enjoy a few drinks after a long work week. The place is pretty large inside with plenty of tables to sit at, and there is outdoor seating as well. They had a huge draught beer selection, and I got to try some beers I've never had, much less heard of! The atmosphere was good, and the music wasn't too loud to talk. I also liked the amount of people here because it was busy but not packed.  The food menu looked better than I expected, but I didn't end up getting anything here. I will probably be back for more beers and to try some snacks! read more

The audacity to even associate this piece of work with The Smiths is beyond me. Terrible, stay away!!! Probably the best beer selection in Dallas but you have no idea what they have because there is no beer menu. "Just look up at chalk board, man." Even that was a pain to read. Terrible service. Love a good dive bar but this one just goes that extra mile to turn customers away. "You need us, we don't need you " sort of attitude from guy behind the bar. Talk about a hole in the wall. You walk in and it is dead (on a Saturday night). There is water leaking from the ceiling. My friends ordered fights of beers (decent selection). Either they overcharged me or they charge $22.50 for a flight of beers (volume totally one beer). The only reason I gave them any stars is because they did have some rare bourbon, including Van Winkles. But they would only let me have one ounce! I was willing to buy more, but they said no. So then I proceed to buy other, much cheaper bourbon and they charged ridiculous prices on them. I will never come back here. read more

Apologies to Eric for this late review , but this place really is the best reason to visit Dallas. Constantly updated tap-list , great food and the best bar-tenders in town. When I say the best , I don't mean Applebees type servers who are super chipper and constantly try and upsell you , but bartenders who know how to make drinks , will make/ suggest drinks based on your preferences , and who act as a barrier to all the pretentious yuppies / 30k millionaires that infest Dallas bars , yacking on about how much money they make and demanding royal service because they work in a real/estate HR office.( See all the 1/2 star reviews on this site ). This is a bar where if you take the time to come in regularly , talk to the bar-tenders and generally act like a human being you will have the best bar experience ever , conversely if you act like a jack-ass or a diva they'll blow you off. I really like strangeways. I've been a few times and have enjoyed every minute seated at that dingy brick and mortar. Maybe it's the Brooklyn vibe it secretes with its lack of sunlight through nonexistent windows. Maybe it's my Brooklyn nostalgia. Maybe it's both, but I know for sure its because of the beer. They have 40 taps of choice beer that is ever rotating. The only bummer is they lack gluten free beer and I want to say cider but don't quote me on that last one. A friend and I went here for a quick drink after work and were surprised at how laid back the atmosphere is here. It's dark inside and has a small outside patio you can enjoy. They don't have the quickest service, but we also didn't see a lot of help. read more

Lucked into a spot at the bar & we were just there to drink. We regularly seek out craft beer across the metroplex, so I can say with some authority that the attitude towards beer at Strangeways seems to be "OK, these are the breweries I can feature, what kegs can I get by these brewers that virtually no one else has on tap in this area?" There were almost zero 'standard' beers- they were all familiar breweries, but very few familiar brews. They even had Armadillo- a brewery out of Denton that's taken awhile to get off the ground... we hadn't even heard they'd finally launched (not a fan of the stout we had by them... very unrefined, unremarkable & way too hoppy for a stout). The bartenders seemed to match the neighborhood- rough around the edges with friendliness only granted after you prove you're worthy of it, but their tough wary nature seemed to fit this place just fine. More like bars in Portland or Seattle than any other in Dallas (kegs stacked in the corner, unfinished walls, supremely laid back). We really enjoyed ourselves, in spite of the rather loud, non-craft-beer-crowd this place also draws due to its location. read more
