Staff and service excellent! Room super comfy, well appointed. Views from the rooms and balconies of the hotel are breathtaking! Restaurant is very good here too (separate review included for there). Locals dine here... it's good! Fabulous spa/pool area we used every evening. We would DEFINITELY stay here again. Highly recommend Hotel Sonnenhof!

Great experience... until the end... see the end! We grabbed a reservation when the restaurant…read moreopened, and arrived a few minutes early to have cocktails! We opted for the four course menu for one, all of which was very good. Best in class! We also had the eggplant appetizer and white asparagus with the catch of the day, both also best in class! We both had the erdbeer white chocolate-strawberry dessert ... delicious. We had a local bottle of wine recommended by Claudia, our waitress! Great rec! She did a great job! Fantastic place, fantastic views... The MAJOR problem was we are from the US. The restaurant's credit card machine doesn't work on cards from the US. Apparently, cards from Switzerland don't work either! A call to the owner solved nothing. They offered to wait while I went to an ATM to get cash. Not a good solution when I'm in a foreign country with no familiar banks within 100 kms! Fortunately, I had enough Euros to cover the tab, with a few to spare. They obviously knew we were from the US when we walked in, but waited until the the bill was presented to tell us about the issue with the credit card reader. A perfect experience ruined in the last 15 minutes. What a shame. REALLY bad form! We won't go back, and recommend all from the US avoid the restaurant (unless you bring cash to cover the bill). We planned on coming back to stay at the hotel, those plans canceled too!
