Our office recently moved into the area along with us and we visited Straight and Narrow following glowing reviews. However the abysmal and disorganized service ruined the experience - Firstly we booked a table, arrived on time but were asked to wait at the bar for 20 minutes whilst there were 4 tables free.
After finally questioning why were still waiting after we saw another trio walk in and be given a double table straight away, we questioned this and the surprisingly smarmy waiter ushered us (a trio) to a single cramped table that we were staring at and was empty for the last 20 minutes. There was a another double table next to us but we assumed it was booked - 30 seconds later another trio walks in and the waiter sits them there immediately. Whatever, the waiter clearly had something against us.
Food arrived 40 minutes after ordering, which isn't terrible but we did expect it to come faster. Two dishes were utterly delicious and hot, the roast chicken and the french toast, but the vegetarian brunch was served largely cold. We had hoped to order more but decided early on that becuase of how the waiter had treated us and seated us as a trio at a two seater cramped table with with barely any dish space, we would just get some more plates and dessert at a coffee house just to the other side of Limehouse.
The waitress I must say was fantastic and attentive, we have to apologize for not leaving a tip for her but we we're quite angry as we left. The older waiter however took items away from our table without asking (butter that the waitress had just delivered seconds ago and a half full drink) and we snapped when he silently ambled over and lifted one of our plates that still had food on it while it was still being eaten - we were bemused and shocked. I was quite sharp with him to be honest but rather than apologize and offer to make it right he hung around like a bad smell and looked to want to start an argument with me saying that he couldn't believe I asked him to use his mouth and ask us before he took items away - all while the entire dining room was staring at us. I lost my appetite completely and just wanted to leave. Imagine coming here on a special occasion and having your day ruined by this chap - not professional at all.
We regret to say this as its a stone's throw from our building, but we certainly won't be coming here again. read more
