I knew I was getting proposed to when photographer told me to turn around so she can "get the reaction"; ruined the surprise. The photos came in the exact time she quoted us but the edits look like pictures taken and edited off an iPhone. Not happy with them. I had to re-crop and edit majority of all photos as best I could as all the edits completely washed out our skin tone, the colors of the sky etc. I asked for the raws so I could just edit them myself from scratch and it's been 2 weeks and still haven't received them. Didn't remind us or inform to take phones/wallets out of pockets so those just look lovely in all our photos **sarcasm**. Book with someone else who knows what they're doing and takes their time on special memories like this. Updating my review! Got some of the raws back a day after making my review, which was nice of her to send as she said she didn't usually do so, but the quality of the photos look like they were taken on an iPhone..it was nice to see some of the photos that didn't come through as finals. Although I generally prefer not to post negative criticism, the profound disappointment regarding our wedding photography has stayed with me for the past two years. I am deeply saddened by the outcome of the photos provided by this company. We were initially promised a specific photographer, 'Josh,' based on his recommended portfolio. However, only one week before our wedding, we were assigned 'Anel,' whose work we had never seen. On our wedding day, the level of professionalism and quality of work was unacceptable: Lack of direction: There was little to no guidance on posing or lighting. The photographer made comments like, 'What was that?' or 'What's that face?' instead of providing constructive direction. Poor Technical Execution: Many family photos feature heavy, unflattering shade cast across faces. Across the entire collection, there is only one usable, direct shot of my husband and me facing the camera. Absenteeism: During the cocktail hour, which we hired the photographer to cover, the photographer was found sitting in the dressing room instead of actively taking candid photos of our guests. I actually had to seek out the photographer to initiate coverage of the event. Frankly, the final delivered collection lacked the quality and professional execution we would expect from a paid vendor. It felt like paying a friend to snap photos, not a professional with an understanding of lighting and composition. A further point of concern: not a single photo from our wedding has ever been featured on the company's website or social media. We had such an amazing experience working with Storytellers Global. One thing that I really appreciated from the beginning when I reached out for some more information, Josh asked to get on a call with my fiance and I to learn a bit more about our venue and wedding style and help fit us with one of their packages. I can't tell you how many other companies just sent over a brochure with their pricing with no follow-up. In speaking with Josh, he was very consultative, and also just a very pleasant person to talk with. After comparing a few other photographers, we landed on Storytellers because of their beautiful editing style, and we knew we would be in good hands with experienced professionals. We worked with Anel for our engagement photoshoot, and she was a complete gem. My husband and I are not picture people, and she was able to get us comfortable in front of the camera. Those pictures turned out beautifully. For the wedding, we worked with Anel and Andrew for photography, and Marilyn for videography, and I cannot stress how amazing it was to work with all of them. I was a bundle of nerves the day of my wedding, and not once did I have to worry about anything not being captured. To start, I am beyond thrilled with our teasers! I attached a few to this post. Liberty is beyond amazing & has been so accommodating. She was amazing the day of the wedding, getting there a bit early & walked over to our hotel room to check in with me. She was so sweet and made us so comfortable. She was great and keeping the bridal party's attention when we were on a time constraint before the ceremony & she knew a lot tricks to keep us laughing (I wont give away her secrets)! The team was great leading up to the wedding checking in and having a call with us to make a plan, we live on the opposite end of the country. They were incredible with communication which is huge to me & have even accepted me asking about our pictures probably more than the average person would haha. (For the record we got an amazing set of teasers in 10 days!! It's only been 3 weeks since the wedding, we were told 4-6 weeks for all of the pictures, which is incredible turn around time). Josh was amazing start to finish. He went over a really detailed timeline with us and we discussed the best time, location, and lighting. He's clearly VERY EXPERIENCED and took all of the awkwardness out of posing for family pictures - he directed everyone which was great. I used Joshua for our engagement photos and I cannot begin to express how pleased I was to work with him! When my husband and I were engaged, I started to search for photographers with the hope that we could stay within a small budget. Many of the photographers we looked at had low quality photos that looked unplanned, candid and not appealing to the eye. We ran across Joshua's profile and were amazing. Joshua took some Engagement pictures for us a few weeks ago at La Jolla Coves and the pictures are absolutely amazing!! When I was looking for Engagement photographers I contacted several and Joshua was the only one who called back and that made me like him instantly! It was easy to setup a date and he was flexible with the location. In spit of having some car trouble that morning he reached at perfect time and made us at ease in less than a minute :) We captured some beautiful shots at sunrise. One of my first decisions in selecting any wedding vendor was my photographer. Photos are so important to our family and keeps the event alive for us and for generations to come. When I look at my Grandmothers' wedding photos I get chills thinking how happy they were on their wedding day. Many of us display our Mothers' and Grandmothers' wedding photos at our own weddings. It's a pretty big deal to trust someone with your wedding photos as they can't be re-shot after if they aren't perfect. But with Joshua we felt like we were in great hands from day one. We worked with Joshua as our wedding photographer and he is absolutely fantastic! 1. The hiring process was very easy. Joshua and I had a phone interview where he asked what kind of 'feel' we were going for with our wedding and our style. He was very receptive towards all of my questions for him and gave us very honest and straight-forward answers. 2. Leading up to the wedding, he was very responsive to all of my bride-crazy questions. 3. On the day of the wedding, they arrived right on time. What I appreciated SO much was that when they arrived, they didn't come in with a huge gust of wind and create all this momentum around themselves. They came in so calm but with a plan and worked around me as I got ready. We didn't have some of the traditional elements (e.g. bridal party) but that was no issue and we did not lose out on photos because of that. In the pre-interview and list of pictures that I wanted, I completely forgot a couple of design items that I personally worked on. Without telling ever Joshua, he recognized those elements and got photos of them. 4. For the ceremony, Joshua was able to get so many beautiful shots and I don't even remember him being there! After the ceremony, he was fantastic about gathering everyone for the group family pictures and those came out so great! My husband and I are not comfortable taking photos and we have no idea what our 'angles' are. Joshua was able to create a space for both of us that we felt calm and comfortable and that definitely came across in the photos! His direction was spot on and we absolutely love what he captured. 5. He also did a great job at the reception! Speeches, dancing, and guests - he captured them all and those pictures are so much fun to look back on. 6. Getting the pictures back from him was no issue at all. I asked him if it was possible to airbush out a tattoo and he did with no problem at all and it looks very natural. If I could give Josh more than 5 stars I would! From the very beginning I appreciated his straightforward attitude, his professionalism, and his awesome customer service! My husband, Dan, and I found him a long time ago to take our engagement photos in La Jolla, CA and immediately connected with him. He has a great personality and made Dan and I feel completely comfortable. Because of this (and the fact that our engagement photos look amazing), we wanted to book him for our wedding in Maui, Hawaii.... 10/17/13 After speaking with Josh almost every month from the engagement photo session to the wedding (which was a lot), we had the chance to get to know him even more. I found Joshua while I was on Groupon. I was looking for a photographer to take our family photos so that my mother in law had family pictures of her boys before one of them deployed. I had done a lot of research on photographers in the area and I fell in love with Joshua's work. So I emailed him asking if he was okay with a party of 7. We met up with him a a local park and we took pictures of the boys, the whole family, my son and pictures of the boys and I in our half marathon cloths and medals. He was great with all of us. I decided to use Joshua when I saw him in action at my brother's wedding. He did such an amazing job and was so personable. 1st let me say I'm a professional photographer so I know how it works. I've done weddings and almost everything else. ***edit: I AM happy with the photos I received. I completely forgot to add that! I even told myself that I have to but my emotions came rolling back haha Pre-wedding process: This part he was good at. Josh responded to all my emails & calls promptly. He answered my questions thoroughly and helped with planning the day of timeline Wedding Day: I felt rushed and there was conflict between Josh & my coordinator; and he did not hide it at all. It was my wedding day. The last thing I wanted was to hear that two of my vendors weren't getting along. My cousin's daughter (2 1/2 yrs old) was a little less than supervised and getting in the way at times. He expressed his discontent with this which kind of offended me. Shouldn't the bride be the one complaining? haha I just thought that was rude & unnecessary. I (along with others) could tell his friendliness was forced but he over-all got the job done. Post-wedding process: NOT HAPPY AT ALL. Up until the wedding day he told us it would take about 6 weeks to get the photos back. Then on the wedding day he said 6-8 weeks. Okay, that's manageable. He gave us 8 teasers 4 weeks after the wedding which was nice (but expected). 8 weeks comes and goes with no contact from Josh. I reached out to him. He responded with excuses along with "Again, I am STILL quicker than most photographers even at nine weeks". That's a lie. I've spoken to many brides and most got their photos in 6-8 weeks. That was annoying of him to say. TEN days later and no contact from Josh STILL. (TEN weeks after the wedding) I contacted him and expressed my frustration. I told him I was annoyed that he kept postponing the date I was supposed to receive the photos. I also expressed that I wouldn't be so annoyed if he kept me updated without me having to be the one to reach out. I pointed out that after 10 weeks, he never once contacted me with an update to let me know he was running behind. I told him I understand life happens but I felt tossed to the side like I didn't matter. I also told him that I spoke with many brides and his claim that he was "quicker than most photographers" was false. Even his contract says "Photography by Joshua Killeen will provide Clients with digital copies of photographs within four to eight weeks after the event." If I was one of those sue happy people, I'm sure I could have got somewhere with that. I don't like to screw people over though. God takes care of that for me! Up until that point I was trying VERY hard to be patient and understanding with him but the lack of responsibility really pissed me off. He called me shortly after receiving my text but I was at work so I couldn't answer the phone. He then texted me that my photos were uploading right now (how convenient) and that he would like to explain what happened with the extended delay. He also said "I apologize if you felt that I was taking advantage of your patience". He didn't actually apologize for the delay. He apologized for how I freaking felt lol don't you just hate when people do that?! I feel like it's so condescending and a slap in the face. I called him back after work. We had a lengthy conversation and he still didn't accept responsibility. He just apologized for how I freaking felt. He offered something like more prints to compensate. THEN when I FINALLY get the photos, there's less than 400 photos and he was there for like 6 hours and there were 3 freaking shooters! How in the hell did I only get 391 photos when you had 3 shooters for HOURS?! I am not happy with his service AT ALL. I asked if I could have more and he yet again praised himself and compared himself to other photographers blah blah blah. He still owes me a photo album but I don't even want to reach out to him and ask for the process to get started. I'll create my own damn photo album and pay for it just to avoid talking to him. I forgot to mention he kept saying "just look at my reviews on yelp". Screw that! He kept saying it when I would tell him the truth like " you haven't contacted me at all". Your reviews don't reflect my experience. If they're all true, how am I the ONE client you have mistreated? I would never conduct a business in the manner he did. My now husband proposed to me in July 2013, and we decided to have a civil ceremony the next month, August 2013. I was frantically searching for a photographer that I can book on a short notice since I only had a month until our ceremony. I was looking through yelp and groupon.. and actually found Josh through groupon.. He was offering a discount deal on wedding packages and then I looked him up on Yelp and he had awesome reviews. I called him and told him I just needed a photographer for a short time--Just the ceremony and not only was he free the day of my scheduled ceremony, but he was also very nice and understood that I wasn't looking for someone for any more than 2 hours. (Some of the other photographers were not flexible on this detail). He offered a great deal, and even suggested to go to a nearby park after the ceremony at the courthouse to get some nice outdoor shots. Communication with him was easy, he got back to my e-mails and phone calls right away. We are also expecting a baby and so we sort of incorporated a few belly shots into our wedding photos. Josh was great and my husband and I felt very comfortable with him. He made things so easy, we didn't know exactly what to do or how to pose and he instructed us very well. I just went over our proofs and everything looked amazing! I can't wait to see them in person. I would definitely recommend Josh to anyone.
