Battery check in number 2 after an unsuccessful attempt at a defunct Rite Aid that was liquidating -n- batteries go fast in these commercial real estate firesale times. Duracell and Energizer, which last longer with so many promises made to us over the years by the manufacturer. I think the older ones lasted longer and they were in smaller packs that now hold twenty or more. I see off brand batteries, Walmart has theirs and Stop and Shop has a off brand that they sell and its close to half the price of the afore mentioned. What happened to the battery checkers of years gone? Even one volt allowed up and can power a little flash of the light or a few more clicks o your remote, You just placed the contacts in correct polarity and squeeze.. I am harping on batteries now not because I am getting back into toys but I had a problem at the my girlfriends house of a kitchen sink. With little interaction I am not a fan of motion activated touchless faucets, when batteries run out, you can not use it like a regular faucet. A kind management man that greeted me very quickly upon my reaching the customer service counter wasted no time to escort me to the proper area and stayed a bit to chat about this situation I found myself in. I have not purchased more than that at this Stop and Shop location, the one in my neighborhood is in a hole and I just do not enjoy shopping subterranean. I hope to return soon and explore the aisles and shop with the same kind of happy customer happiness I just left with. read more

First off when you walk In this shop and stop your instantly impressed . They have the flower section right by the door which brings this natural feel to the place . The organizational this store in my opinion is perfect . It's like fruit , vegetables, cheeses , meats fish , condiments, canned good , pasta then house hold goods . Nothing is mixed in together . The store is super big , it's clean , everyone is so nice that works there . Moving to Port Washington a few days ago I was nervous about finding a good super market but shop & stop is definitely my go to now! read more

Stop & Shop used to be a great grocery store but has significantly gone downhill since King Kullen closed. The lack of competition has led Stop&Shop to have higher prices and longer waits at the registers. Don't even try to come here in the afternoon. The only way to get in and out of this store in fewer than 5 minutes is to go at 10AM on a weekday. There are even lines for the self-checkout machines. I actually have started going out of my way to go to the King Kullen in Manhasset or North Shore Farms. 2 stars for a terrible supermarket until they clean up their act. read more

Picked up some organic strawberries at an outrageous price - get home to find out they are moldy. Oh, and just to be super sweet they aren't accepting refunds or returns of any kind. This is our neighborhood S&S and we only shop there because it's convenient. From the moment you walk in the door, you can tell the management is not paying attention to the customer experience. The vestibule is dirty and smelly. The scanners work 50% of the time and the produce scanners are either broken or out of paper, which is annoying because we're doing the work weighing our own produce! They don't restock the produce, so if you get there late on a Sunday...plan to go elsewhere for your broccoli. I worked at a grocery store many years ago and know it's hard work, but the people there are GRIM. This place really needs to clean up their act. read more

STORE #0546 PORT WASHINGTON LI, NY I was denied purchase when buying alcohol at stop and shop for my super bowl gathering with my family because three of my friends were with me. I am of age with a valid ID. The woman at the register asked for my birthday and range me up, when one of the products was not scanning, she called over the assistant manger who saw my purchase of alcohol, removed it from the system and said I wouldn't be able to buy it if the three of my friends didn't show they're ID. I feel profiled for my age and they weren't able to give me a valid reason as to why this was the case except that it was a policy and some other ridiculous assumptions. I even asked if they were outside would I with my own purchase, card, and ID would I be able to buy it and they said "no because we know they are outside". What if I didn't even know them? It's my own decision what I do after purchase and I'm aloud as a 21 year old adult to purchase alcohol in the state of New York. This was absolutely ridiculous, given that I myself have been with my mom, cousins, and older friends when I was underage and was never questioned for an ID for THEIR OWN purchase. I would love to see a policy written in a hand book because that has never been the case EVER at any Stop and Shop. I am outraged to be denied a service because of their assumptions and opinions instead of following the law, because I have never heard of this in my life. The manager and assistant manger are incompetent and cannot come up with valid reasoning or solutions. They talk down to you and profile you based on age and their assumptions. I don't expect much from a grocery store. Fresh fruits and veggies. Milk and dairy products. Meat department. Adequate customer service. The thing I can say about the Stop and Shop in Port Washington is that they have milk and dairy products. The fruits and veggies look like they were picked six months ago and shipped across the country or from the other side of the world. Most of the items I find are wilted or already going bad. The meat department is much like the customer service: absolutely atrocious. You don't dare ask the butcher to do anything for you because we wouldn't want him to actually work. I wanted a portion of a chuck roast cut. I asked the butcher if he could cut it down to just a pound, and he responded basically with "No. I'm not going to do that. Buy it all." I didn't buy it. The employees seem to be very specialized in the aisle or department in which they work. I've gotten the "not my department" excuse multiple times when asked where I could find certain items. I was walking down an aisle one time, and two employees were coming up behind saying into a walkie talkie, "I just need to get around this customer, and I'll be right there." No "excuse me" or anything. The employees working the checkout act like you've gotten them on the worst days of their life. I never get a smile let alone a hi or hello. I don't expect them to be my friend, but please act like I'm there. I tried using a coupon that was on display next to the item, and the employee told me it was expired, and it couldn't be used. I explained that it was on display, and it didn't matter. I asked to talk to a manager. One wasn't apparently on duty that night. It's sad that this is the only major supermarket in Port Washington. Rude customer service and basic politeness doesn't exist. A little competition would go a long way. read more

I LOVE this supermarket. I've tried so many smaller chain supermarkets but really have been disappointed. They specialize in one thing while another department in the store is horrible. Stop & Shop Port Washington is my go to store! So convenient with (fair priced!) fresh breads, great deli staff, fresh produce and so much more. This store is so neat and organized. Cleanliness is a big deal for me in a supermarket. It always has a great vibe here. The store is huge and should have everything you need. Even greeting cards and a pharmacy! Exhausted? There's a Starbucks in there too for a quick pick-me-up. Never once had a nasty staff member at a register. Always do a good job and find them very amiable. Also parking is never a problem. Huge parking lots. I've been to some pretty horrible Stop & Shops in my day and this one should be a model for all of them. Decent prices, large selection, well organized and clean. While checking out my items I realized that this so called manger was not wearing his gloves nor a mask. I was not going to stay quiet about this so when I asked him where is his mask and gloves he became defensive and threatened to call the police. I told him to do so and I would kindly have a word with the police as well. He then threatened to not ring up the rest of the items and to leave "his" store. I was then approached by another manger named Liz. I explained my concern and all she could say was sorry about that. This for me is a huge problem. Its people that like that are not taking this serious and believe they are an exception to the advisory. Wear your mask and gloves and stay home. I'm not opening this up for debate. What a monstrosity. This place used to be a super ghettofied GRAND UNION when I was a kid, but they knocked it down & expanded it to about triple the size. It's about the same size as a typical Super Wal-Mart, but it IS cheaper than King Kullen down the block. Take it or leave it, it doesn't matter. I ordered my son's birthday cake for the first time at the Stop & Shop Bakery. A young man with glasses assisted me with my order and gave me some of his recommendations. The day of my pick up, he had some issues with the printer where the photo that was to be used was not coming out as expected. He was apologetic and told me step by step what he was going to do to resolve the issue. He quickly finished my cake, it looked perfect, and the cake was a big hit at the birthday party. My cake was aboslutely delicious. The inside was very soft and fluffy, and the strawberry filling tasted very fresh. Great first experience! read more

The store has redone self checkout in an unsafe manner. Up until this week the self checkout was in individual lanes parallel to the maned checkout lines. The area has now been redone with the self checkout registers next to each other and only a very small area for the groceries. It is impossible to maintain 6 foot social distance in the closed in space they now have. This was very poorly designed in the age of covid and should be redesigned. read more

Their customer service people repeatedly harass my 71 year old mother for no reason. They follow her around the store, as if that is what "customer service" really means. Maybe they should be cleaning the dog poop and the bathrooms, so that we don't get e.coli from their produce (fecal matter travels alarmingly fast), or from touching anything else, and not age related harassment. Just a "heads up": Watch where you walk in this store. As I was walking toward the dairy aisle today I saw a woman in the store with a dog on a leash. There was zero indication that it was a service dog. When I got to the dairy aisle I noticed three areas of dog waste on the floor. It had been stepped in and tracked. Went immediately to Customer Service to report it. Back to dairy aisle and employee had cleaned up one area, left the rest. Back to Customer Service, was told they don't stop people with dogs because everyone claims it's a service dog. I said could you at least make sure the waste is cleaned up quickly. When I cautiously returned to dairy aisle, dog poop was still there but with yellow cone near it. Dog waste remained on the floor at least as long as I was in the store, which was about half an hour. I want a grocery store that cares about cleanliness. Lack of competition in Port Washington is a real problem. read more

While I much prefer shopping at North Shore Farms or Uncle Guiseppi's, sometimes a a trip to Stop & Shop is necessary for those household staples which my preferred grocery stores like to hike up pirces on or for the only kind of cat food my picky kitty will eat. As far as chain supermarkets go, this Super Stop & Shop is HUGE -- you are unlikely to leave without finding what you need or a close approximation. It's clean, it's well-organized, and when you need those select-a-size paper towels or Fancy Feast cat food, it's there. read more

As Stop and Shop's go this place is on level as most. It is not a "super" store so yes there are some way more extravagant locations that I have seen elsewhere. This store has good flow. The lay out seems to not let everyone go around bumping into each other. There is also a decent amount of cash registers. I have never waited really at all for check out ever, even on a Sunday. They are doing a good job. Staff is around but I haven't interacted with them much. Store is kept clean with good grocery stock. It meets my needs. I'm not sure why it wouldn't meet yours! read more

It's bigger, cleaner, and with a much better selection than the S&S in Little Neck. Plus the clientele and staff seem more normal than the shambling mounds / disheveled woebegones that people the Little Neck site. Anyway, while it's a bit out of the way if you don't live in Port, it has at least plenty of parking. I always try to give this place a chance but each time it is an unpleasant experience. I go to a fitness gym nearby and like to stop at the Starbucks for some Iced Tea. When I go to pay I used my Starbucks app. When you go to this one they cannot scan the app on your phone and thus have to manually type in the barcode. Each time I do this I get a rude "sigh" from the barista because gosh forbid he or she needs to do an extra 20 seconds of work for a customer. Mind you each time this has happened I was the only one there. Also, another infuriating event that happens, is that they have 12 or fewer items aisles and yet, people with carts well beyond 12 items get on the line. What is the point of having these aisles when they are not used the correct way. Basically, either I get a rude barista or I have to wait over a half an hour in line because the 12 or fewer aisles are not used correctly. Will no longer shop here. read more

Incompetent Bakery staff and just as incompetent store manager who does not know anything about damage control and "fixing" the problem when her employees lose the information given for a cake order. I placed my cake order on a Tuesday for Friday pick up. When giving the girl at the bakery the details it was nothing less than painful. I had to repeat myself 6 times and I left feeling worried she had gotten the order incorrect. Thankfully, I called on Thursday to make sure they got the details and the pictures I left with her to be scanned on the cake. As expected, the baker "Steve" confirmed he did not receive any pictures and gave me a "so what - what do you want me to do about it" attitude as if it were MY fault! He was unapologetic and could not be bothered with even trying to find it. He said he would make a cake with a blue border and nothing on it. I was floored at his response and couldn't believe his tough luck attitude. I am...correction WAS a dedicated Stop and Shop customer and used to go there every week and only ordered my cakes there. Sadly, this will be my last shopping experience there and will never spend my money at a supermarket that has such horrible customer service and does not care about how they treat their customers or about "making the situation right". ***NEVER USE THE PHARMACY HERE** So I went there ewith terrible kidney stone pain I could hardly walk or talk the pharmacy was empty no one there. I asked them if I could wait, because I wasa in real pain and after the pain killerrs I was not able to drive. They said it was going to be 15 minutes..reind you no one there... So after crying and a surprise puke that I cleaned myself may I add, I got my meds out of pitty from the grocery manager 35 minutes later.. While a few of the pharmacist , laughed and gossip in a foreign asian language. I know they were taking about my little puke episode, but I did not care because I was in so much pain. I had used a local pharmacy by the name of Beacon drugs (ewhich are amazing) but since my friend needed some stuff from then I decided to fill there. So I knew how much it cost due to me not having insurance, it was 24.99 at Beacon Pharmac last month, after painfully getting up to see the casahier I was yet in more pain when she sauid my total was 58.99. The same drug same strength and same manufacure. But 0 guess I have to pay for the extra pharmacist here who get paid gossiping in foreign languages. I asjed the parmacist why the duifference in price from oner pharmacy t another. He replies, "that's how I make the big bucks" I guess he wasa trying to be funny, but I wasn't in a laughing mode. Unfortunatly I had a refill there so I came back a month later, the pharmacist at the timer told me I was 24 hour early on my RX I explained to her that I was leaving to another country and needed my meds for travel since I was coming back 20 days later and was scared I passed a stone in a foreign land. She said NO. Bi got creative and called while the night pharmaacist was there , he filled it with no problem and said that they are allowed to fill 5 days before in case of an emergency. No problems then. He said that the woman from the morbning never called to get permission but she swore to m she had asked her boss In the morning. This store is consistently well run and had excellent brand variety. Replenishment rates are very high, and the staff maintains consistently neat, orderly aisles. The auto pay systems are far less prone to breakdown and malfunction than they are at the soon to be closed King Kullen. However, store personnel , the few times that you need them, are not easy to locate and have that churlish, bored DONT BOTHER ME I DONT WANT TO HELP UPU attitude. If they can pick up some top quality KK employees, this store would rate a solid, perfect 5 Stars. read more

Port Washington is stuck with only two places to do a large grocery shopping since King Kullen left town. Stop and shop is convieniant and supplies ample parking, unfortunately they have a terrible produce department. North Shore Farms produce department beats Stop and shop hands down. Pre-cut produce seems to be the way Stop and Shop wants to go. The selection of uncut produce such as Kale, Collards, Mustard Greens and similar produce is often very limited and the quality is awful often looking as if it was on the shelf for days. On the up side Stop and Shop being larger can offer a wider variety of other goods along with ample parking. On the down side the self-check out machines often malfunction leaving customers to wait for a store attendant. Take your pick of which store to shop at. read more
