Decent. Good prices. But unexceptional for southern barbecue. That being said, still better than supposed southern style barbecue you find in California. In other words, an okay barbecue joint in Georgia still better than the best barbecue In the San Francisco Area where I'm from. The ribs were smoked, then cooked till they were "falling off the bone," as they say. Stonewalls looks like it started somewhere else (Mississippi coast is where the signs say it won best BBQ sauce) and then franchised to reproduce same in other places. It has the flair and look of the original, I'm sure, with paper towels on the tables, hot sauces and its famous barbecue sauce, license plates tacked on the walls and a most welcoming and friendly staff. It's okay but it's definitely not my first choice. I wasn't impressed by the pulled pork. The pulled pork was tough and chewy, but the chicken had a nice flavor but the smoke flavor wasn't there at all. They catered my job so that would be the only way that I would eat there again, they actually catered there twice. If you want BBQ that's to die for then I would suggest Smokin POe Boys in Winder. read more

As three stars indicates - it's OK. If you're in the area and in the mood for BBQ you'll do OK here. The pulled pork is "pre sauced" with a quality sauce - but it was swimming in sauce so you don't really get to choose how you want your pork sauced. The meat had a good flavor- I think, I couldn't really taste just the meat. It was really "pulled" not chopped. Sides were also just OK. I had slaw and potato salad. The slaw was a little soupy but the potato salad was pretty good. My Texas Toast was almost burnt but that's OK, I never eat it anyway. read more

The 4.4 rating was misleading when it comes to the main course -the meats. I hovered between 2 and 3 for the rating and decided finally on 2 because the ribs were probably tasty and tender when first made but under the warmer lights they were dried out with an ok dry rub and sweet sauce taste. The brisket was extremely lean and ok with a decent smoke flavor but a bit on the dry side. The pulled pork was presauced which a good smoked pork shouldn't require. My wife liked it because that's what she likes, and it makes a good lunch time sandwich but not really my thing. The coleslaw and Mac-n-cheese was pretty good, and the bread pudding is an awesome imitation of a soft sticky cinnamon roll. The green beans were ok. This restaurant is a little hard to find, we used our GPS and had no problem, it is at the end of a small strip mall. OMG, the pulled pork is well pulled, portioned and delicious. Extra barbecue sauce can be added but not necessary, as it is pre-seasoned, but heck, I went for the extra. The brisket was well cooked, sliced, lean, tender and delicious. The ribs, oh, those ribs were wonderful. One thing I must remark about their barbecue sauce is that none of the flavors are overdone, but all flavors are in the correct proportion. The sides I had were baked beans and cole slaw, both were delicious. The beans weren't doused with barbecue sauce, but you can douse it yourself. I thought they were delicious. The cabbage in the cole slaw was freshly cut, with the proper proportions of slaw:sauce, and also delicious. The staff was friendly and accommodating, especially to new customers. This restaurant is clean and welcoming with tables and bench seats. The bathrooms were clean. I attended the ladies, while my husband reported on the mens. Before we left, hubby bought a pound of pork and a pound of brisket. We received these with a generous portion of their BBQ sauce. I asked for a serving of the bread pudding, as I was full. Later on I tried the bread pudding and I hate being redundant, but all the seasonings were properly proportioned. Not too much cinnamon, vanilla, sugar, bread or anything. It was a pudding, with light flavorful slices of bread. The only thing missing, in my opinion was the raisins. This is a little out of the way place, but much worth the drive. It clocks on at 39 miles each way for me to drive, and it is well worth the drive! First of all, if you love great BBQ and even better sides served on a relaxed atmosphere, this is the place for you! The ribs are the best I've found in Georgia. The Bread pudding is the best I've ever tasted. Ever. It's amazing! The people are friendly, kind of like family you have not seen in a while! They are really glad to see you! They should close the doors. The first thing I worried about was the 85 health score. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich. The pork was cold and congealed, and was worse than buying crap in a plastic container at the grocery store. The sauce is shipped in pre-made and is not good at all. The brisket was slightly better, bur still cold. More fat than meat on my sandwich. All of the food is pre-made and sitting under warming lamps in plain site. Stopped in here for lunch with some old co-workers a couple weeks back, and I was generally unimpressed. The prices were good, but the pulled pork sandwich I received was cold and flavorless. My friends seemed to enjoy their dishes, and I noticed I was the only one with a pulled pork sandwich. Perhaps there was a reason for that? I have on good authority that their bread pudding is delicious, as well as their ribs. I don't have ESP, so I can only comment on what I ate personally. Read all the reviews for Stonewall's BBQ and was very curious to check this place out. First of all there is a smoker belching tasty smoke located behind the restaurant. Secondly the owner of this fine establishment, Ronnie Jones, is the chef and the kitchen is open so you can talk to him at length. That said, let's get philosophical, can we all agree that barbecue is based on regional tastes and traditions. This is Georgia, so this is Georgia-style barbecue. If you are a true aficionado of barbecue then you should try this place. The food is good Georgia-style barbecue, that's why the Brunswick stew is good (but I had never heard of it before.) But don't knock this restaurant because your regional preference is for Tennessee or Texas - you ain't in Tennessee or Texas, you're in Georgia. So quit'cher bitchin' and try something new that you might like. Yes it is a bit sweeter than other cuisines but it's genuine, so enjoy the experience. The sign in the window says "Best Barbecue Award - two years in a row." What award? Most like the stuff in the plastic tub at the grocery store? The menu says and I ordered "Chopped Pork". I got pulled stewed pork in a gloppy sauce that looked, smelt, and tasted exactly like the crap at the grocery store. I drove around back when I left to see that they did in fact have a smoker. But on reading reviews looking trying to find this on yelp, I see the reason: It was from their predecessor. I don't believe they use it. By the way, the place was immaculately clean. Small, order at counter and they will serve you. Picnic tables which are common to this type restaurant. Barbeque pork was good however the brisket as very tough. Driving home from visiting my parents in Atlanta for Thanksgiving, I saw Stonewall's listed on the "Food" sign for the exit on I-85 and decided to stop here for lunch on Saturday afternoon. The place was spacious and clean, looking like it had only opened in the past few months, and the Tech/Georgia game was playing on the radio. I ordered a two-meat combo, pulled pork and sliced brisket, with Brunswick stew and cheesy potato casserole as my sides. They also gave me a slice of thick bread. The pork, as others have noted, is pre-sauced in a sweet sauce, and the only sauce they have on the table, besides Tabasco and Frank's RedHot, is more of that so-so sweet sauce. I added more of the sweet sauce and some Tabasco and the pork was ok. The brisket had good smoke flavor, although it wasn't as soft and tender as I prefer it. Worse, it was served with the fat cap still on, basically looking like beef bacon, which is not the proper way to serve barbecue brisket. The cheesy potato casserole was a little cold and not as strongly cheesy as I'd have liked. But, oh, the Brunswick stew! In theory, I love Brunswick stew, but almost everywhere I've ever gotten it I've needed to tweak it at the table, adding sauces to it or adding bits of my pulled pork to it in order to get it taste right. Stonewall's was an exception to that rule. I ate it exactly as served and loved it. I've heard it said that every barbecue joint does one thing great and everything else so-so. I don't actually believe that's true of all barbecue joints, but from what I ate it's true of Stonewall's and Brunswick stew is their specialty. read more

When I moved to Georgia 7~ years ago, this was one of the first BBQ places I visitted, and continued to visit. However, the days I would go in have become very limited, particularly in the past 4 years. 2 years was the last time I walked in to Stonewalls to get a quick lunch, $5 for a BBQ sandwich with a side and a drink, can't beat it! The sandwich was awful, more bun than there was pork. So I didn't go back, until yesterday. I thought I would give them another chance, they have good prices, friendly staff and a nice dining area. Well, almost exactly the same experience as years prior, except the Potato Casserole was almost un-edible (and it used to be the best potato dish I have ever eaten). The pork sandwich has a sloppy-joe like texture and look to it, they mix their bland BBQ sauce in with the smokeless pork to give it more flavor, I presume. All in all, I will not be going back. Southern Smoq is just down the road in Flowery Branch and has amazing BBQ (although a bit more expensive), with 4 different homemade sauces and real smoked flavor to please anyone and everyone. read more

So service was super. Pulled Pork was good and smoked chicken was very good. The slaw and potato salad were good. Baked beans and green beans were good but nothing special. This is one of my favorite BBQ restaurants. They not only have great food but the owner is a great guy. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is always clean. Ronnie also does catering and has a trailer to serve at larger outdoor events. They have a pay it forward wall if you have a desire to be a blessing to someone else by buying their meal. Now to the food they have BBQ pork, Ribs, Chicken, Brisket, Smoked Turkey, smoked sausage, and one of my favorites smoked chicken wings. The wings sell out quick at lunch, so you have to get there early to get them. They have a bread pudding for desert, which is very tasty. They have your traditional sides mac and cheese, baked beans, Brunswick stew, slaw, potato salad, and green beans. Then there are the cheesy potatoes, thin sliced potatoes, cheese, and sour cream ( I can taste them as I type). They are delicious. Lee sandwich) is horrible. They call it "award winning" and I'd have to ask which award this garbage won. Best BBQ made with expired meat? Best BBQ having been marinated in a dumpster? This was no one-off, not with quality this bad. It was lunch-time and a Mexican food place was packed, and there was one other family in Stonewall's. I had a couple of bites from a couple different areas of the brisket and it was inedible. My girlfriend was starving and almost got a whole piece down. She was nauseous for a couple hours after eating it. I can only assume this place is still open because a few suckers funnel in on their way back from a long day at Road Atlanta. If you go here to eat, the only thing I would recommend is to try the Mexican food place next door. It was packed. read more

Man, well I can say the service was good and the place was clean. Other than that it was terrible. I would rather have had Kroger BBQ than this. It was terrible. I had a pork plate with potato salad and coleslaw. Both the sides were bad as well. Tasted like it was canned or something. My buddy had the brisket and he didn't finish it because it was awful.
