I moved my family to this dental practice and I am sorry to say I was rather disappointed with the experience that we shall re-register elsewhere.
Fluoride paste was not applied onto my child's teeth as has always been done automatically at each check-up at a different Edinburgh practice and when I queried it I was told it was not required as there was no staining. I may be mistaken but for many years I had been led to believe that this was protective rather than a treatment for tooth staining.
As for my own check-up there, an assessment was made and found I had only 1 filling and when I informed the dentist that I had a total of 3 (which are white fillings made privately about 8 years ago) I was told they were fissure sealants and not fillings. This perturbed me as fillings need to be redone at intervals so I was worried that when my fillings are due for renewal, the dentist might not do them as she did not believe them to be fillings despite informing her of this, and I clearly recall the procedures involved drilling. At the end of the appointment I was told to see the hygienist for advice and cleaning and I was not informed that this was private treatment and not covered by NHS. Had I not known about this from asking on first registering, I might have been unknowingly been given and billed for a private treatment. I asked the dentist to perform a scale and polish as usual under NHS dental checks.
I would suggest asking about the costs of each procedure if you are an NHS patient attending this practice as they are not upfront about costs and you could end up being made into a private patient without knowing until you receive the bill.
(For info, I moved to this practice for ease of location and there were no issues other than a longer journey with a young child) read more
