They took care of every issue I've found (which were minor and quickly resolved at no cost to me). They do oil changes and wash your car after which is nice. Especially since they have a shuttle. Twice they've tried to upsell me on other services to get checked has the cars get higher mileage. I even said yes twice and both times they said...ohhh they didn't have enough time. We will get you a discount. I guarantee there isnt a single note on anybodies file. They just get angry when you walk in the office cause then they have to quick alt+tab their youtube shorts to a screen that makes them look like they aren't a bunch of jerks. The one thing every other company has that this one doesn't...honest communication, and the integrity to do what they say. Stew Hansen Hyundai has disappointed on every turn. Have been trying to get this Oil consumption test done under warranty since October 2025. Their service team has refused to answer any calls, schedule follow up appointments for 4months...Now their service manager that I was talking to, I was just informed, is no longer there, as of yesterday. I asked about the other peon, Ben, that started this, and he still has his job, but he still refuses to respond to any voicemails, messages, or just simply do his job. I contacted Hyundai Corporate customer support, they said I have to get the oil consumption test done by a certified dealer, well guess what, the closest one to us...Waterloo. Construction has been going on for over 3 years with no end in sight. After upgrading their service facility, they still apparently don't have enough room for service. Service is chronically understaffed. Having an appointment means absolutely nothing. You will still wait hours. Someone else in the waiting area has been here 2 hours already. And if you need something specific done, no one even bothers to look at upcoming appointments scheduled to make sure they have the appropriate parts needed. When I brought this up, they just played stupid like they had no idea what they would need until they inspected it. Well, maybe you should read the description in your upcoming appointments. The cars are great, but hope you never need any kind of service. Edit: After waiting 2 hours for an inspection I'm told it will be $900 just for parts for a $200 cover I could install myself if I had a lift. Unbelievable. I've had 6 hyundais. Never buying another one. And this is after having 2 hours wasted when I was lied to about the dealer "overpaying for trade ins" and trying to push me into a more expensive upgrade. Ill start by saying I only delt with sales, not service. I have seen some other reviews mentioning sales being great and service being rough, so keep that in mind. I bought a used 2023 IoniQ 6 from this location, and I could not have asked for a better experience. I worked with Collin in sales, and he was excellent. I was an out of state customer - their deals were so much better than my own area that I was willing to drive across state lines for a purchase. They accommodated this exceptionally. I was sent detailed images and videos - Collin seemed willing to go to any extent to get me all the information I needed. They handled the used EV rebate seamlessly, applying it to my down payment. The car itself seems pristine. I got it checked out by a local EV specialist mechanic, and no issues turned up. I was told whoever serviced it last really knew what they were doing for EVs specifically. The sale was quick, and pain free. I was at the dealership for maybe an hour including my own inspection and test drive of the vehicle. Overall, I can say the used car dealership here is the best I have been to in nearly every way. read more

The response was that they didn't open until 7am. Unable to get a shuttle until 730(I missed that), but lowest level service is friendly acknowledgement. They were not capable. DO NOT USE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT If I could give Stew Hansen service department a negative 5 star review I would. We took our Jeep Compass in for service due to two issues that were covered under warranty. First of all, the seal on the head needed to be replaced but instead they made the issue worse by cracking the head and having to replace it. First issue EVENTUALLY resolved after they took additional days to obtain parts and do the work. Second issue was the auto stop/start feature was having a malfunction and not working properly. We were called, believed it was fixed and we picked up our Jeep after normal business hours because we both work. Low and behold it is not fixed. Another visit. Said they fixed the issue....again NOT FIXED. Had they actually taken it for a test drive they would have known it was not resolved. When we called to ask about the issue not being fixed we were told it wasn't the Service Managers fault because he was 'out sick' that day. Asked to bring it back for a THIRD time. Now we are greeted with a major attitude from the Service Manager who starts telling us all the excuses in the book on why it isn't working - none of which were valid in any way. Said they needed more time to find the issue. At this point I'm extremely upset with the fact they want us to bring the vehicle in FOUR TIMES before they actually attempt to resolve an issue and that's after arguing with the Service Manager that doesn't seem to know what is going on because "he wasn't there". We don't care if he was there or not - he's in charge of the department - do the JOB!!! If he doesn't want to do his job then hire someone who does. Honestly at this point a YouTube mechanic could do a better job. I will NOT be utilizing Stew Hansen in Urbandale for ANY future business I may have. They might be apologetic for my 'bad experience' or the 'inconvenience caused' but that does nothing to resolve the issue of an employee who apparently finds it acceptable to be disrespectful and rude to a customer when asked why something was not addressed THREE prior times. read more

I have been trying to schedule a recall repair on our Hyundai for months and the service department doesn't seem to have the capacity to do much of anything for the remainder of 2022 as they said they were too busy to schedule the repair. Every time I have called their service line, I either get cut off or get the same run around. These guys are a joke of a dealer. What can I say? I took my 23 Tucson in for the second of my 3 complimentary services/oil change. I always wait for my vehicle. Well, after service is performed, they said they noticed the oil pan had some seepage and I would need to bring it in the following week to get it resealed. We scheduled it and I brought it in and waited. Well, several hours later, my wife inquires about it and is told it will not be much longer. Approximately 1/2 hour lately, wife is fed up and demands a car as we had some other appointments. We were provided a car. At no time was it said to us that this repair was an hours long half+ day repair. When we went back and picked up car, we thought all was done, well.....that was Wednesday dec.4, 2024 and we get a text on Thursday, Dec.5 at 1:33p.m. letting us know that when doing the repair the tech "noticed" the dipstick was broken on the end and to stop in and they would swap it out. I inquired about getting it sent to my home, since I live 38 miles away. Coleen said she would chat with parts and get back to me. That was Dec.16 at 6:56a.m.. Crickets ever since. This will be my last purchase through stew Hansons and probably my last hyundai. I have bought 3 there, but no more. It is all about the stealership now, customer beware. read more

Our first experience when we interested in a car and later decided the deal wasn't good enough, they wouldn't give us our keys and when they did they stood in front of our car and wouldn't let us leave. They latest experience is they wouldnt honor an advantage maintenance oil change because it was two days overs the 36 month deadline. Purchased a new 2023 Santa Fe in December 2023. When I asked the sales rep, Pulcher, if they added anything to the monthly payment, he said that a $595 charge for Pladtech had to be added since it was built into the vehicle. When my wife and I went into Finance to finalize the paperwork, Ambrose confirmed that the Pladtech had to be included. He also convinced us to include extended Service ($1584.70) and maintenance ($211.95) agreements, which was ok at the time. After researching the Pladtech that evening I became skeptical that it was a required charge. The next morning I called the dealership and another salesman answered. I asked him whether Pladtech was a required cost and he replied "absolutely not". I called back in and asked for the sales manager and he immediately arranged a check for $595 sent to me. Having lost some faith, I decided to also to rescind the maintenance and service agreements and promptly sent in the required form yet that morning. They said they couldn't send me a check on that ($1796.65) but would take care of that thru Hyundai Finance. Ok, but didn't really make sense as we had traded in a vehicle for $26,750 so amount of down payment wasn't an issue. Well when I finally heard from Hyundai Finance I find that Stew Hansen Hyundai had sent a check to Hyundai Finance for only $1495 (cost of maintenance agreement without tax). HF simply applied the $1495 to eliminate the next few payments. So, they again shorted me $291.65. I can only conclude it was done intentionally since they had the form in his hands as well as the sales agreement showing the actual charges. I'll let readers draw their own conclusions as to whether this is a firm they want to deal with based on these facts. read more

My car was brought here 3 weeks, and they said they would be able to get to it as soon as they could. I still made an appointment for weeks out just in case they couldn't get around to it. A week after I had got a quote from the service department and was told they would be moving my vehicle to the body shop for a quote. On my appointment date I had not received any phone calls, I had called 7 times by this point over the past 3 weeks and left voicemails to get an idea of what was happening, and got zero response. I finally got through to the body shop where I was told they had not even seen my vehicle. The unprofessionalism I have received from Cole and Stew Hansen as a whole is absolutely unacceptable. I've been without my vehicle for 3 weeks with no answers. And they won't remove or reduce any charges they have tacked on to fix nothing. Will NEVER use this company again. read more

Last month my daughter was traveling from Denver to Chicago, when her Hyundai Sonata totally broke down in Des Moines. AAA towed her car to Stew Hansen Hyundai where she met one of their service advisors, Nick McD. Nick was amazing! He had the car quickly inspected, confirmed that the engine was completely busted, and after checking the warranty, informed my daughter that the manufacturer's warranty was still valid. My daughter was thrilled. Nick got her a rental car, let her know that all charges will be covered, and that the car did not have to be returned until the engine was replace in approximately 4 weeks. The entire experience was easy and smooth. I later spoke with their GM, Steve, who was equally gracious and professional. He treated us with respect when going through the buying process and followed up several times to make sure we were satisfied with everything. He was friendly, had lots of product knowledge and sure seemed like he enjoyed working there. We love the Palisade, my wife drives it. I bought myself a new Honda Accord, it's a good car. Bought it from that dealership that calls itself "smart". But let me tell you the truth. My mother had a check engine light come on her brand new car that she bought from this dealership 3 weeks ago. Luckily for her it ended up only being a gas cap issue, but the dealership decided to charge her 250 dollars for this fix (of tightening her gas cap). They then proceeded to question her about if she filled her gas tank before or if she used the right gas. Policy with any repair is to call the customer and confirm the problem and if they are okay with the charge for the fix. This dealership never did that, neither a call to my dad or mom, yet they claimed and wrote in their paperwork that they called my dad and confirmed it (my dad was farming and on a combine all day with no access to phone). This is the fourth Hyundai my parents have bought and they will never take it back to this dealership and if you are a female I would never take it to this dealership either as they will treat you a like you are an idiot and have no idea how to tie your own shoes. Super disappointing that companies this big still take advantage of their customers, especially the loyal ones. read more

It only took me 2 weeks to get an appointment for an oil change. I tried several times to do it online but the schedule was not working. My first call was a rude woman who said she couldn't do anything without the VIN number. The second time I called a recording told me to leave my number and I would get a call back...I'm still waiting...the 3rd time I called a guy told me they aren't taking appointments and I'd have to come in and wait my turn. WHAT? ? In his defense he sounded like he just woke up so I'll give him a pass for not knowing where he worked. I finally said is there someone that can recommend another place I can go to? In short: First time visiting this dealership with my new-to-me Kona. I would definitely recommend getting serviced here, especially if you are still under factory warranty. I am moving cross country soon & wanted to get a service check to make sure that everything was fine before leaving next week. I definitely did not plan accordingly to make an appointment (2-3 weeks out), but the woman on the phone was very helpful explaining their walk-in hours/availability. I stopped by last week & they were not able to fit me in without holding my car for 3 days (this seemed incorrect & was the only negative point). I talked to Ryan & explained my situation, he was very helpful & said I could definitely get in on Tuesday morning! I went in as soon as they were open & Nick gave me great service! I brought my car in when it had 5500 miles on it to get the free service check up and the oil changed. At around 8000 miles. I had a warning message that my oil needed to be changed again. So I placed another service work order online with a note asking someone to call me that this warning light was on my car and the oil had already been changed 3000 miles ago. I received no callback so I took my car in And a service supervisor when I walked into the service area, informed me to pull my car into the middle area and they would gather the information to get service on my vehicle. When I came back into the service center, the service supervisor was gone and told another employee he was going to lunch. So I had to stand there and wait for another agent to help me. The second service gentleman was very nice and said it looked like the first time the car was in the auto mechanic, forgot to reset my oil change warning, and didn't give me a sticker as to when I needed to come back. I am disappointed in the focus on the customer and the service that was provided. I hope it improves as a new car buyer! read more

First of all the Finance department was a joke, they should have looked at my credit report and went to a credit union and not banks, but I know they get more on the backend with banks and not credit unions, and slower than anything I have ever seen. I went in for an oil change and tire rotation. I bought my car a year ago, it is a 2022 Hyundai Tuscon. (I should have free oil changes for 3 years or 36K miles but they don't offer that.) Instead the service rep, Khalid offered me a package for 3 visits. Synthetic oil change, tire rotation, and car wash for $199.00... so, I agreed. Then, the service rep said last time they didn't change filters or do an alignment... wanted to know if I wanted that. I asked, how much will that be...total, he said $265. Well, dummy me... when they were done, it was $477... I didn't want to create a fuss because I needed to get back to work for a meeting and the lobby was full. I guess he meant to say it was $199 plus the $265. I have tried to call and talk to a service manager, but no return call. I messaged them on their website and on fb messenger. Nothing. I was actually very terrified to come here based off the reviews. I came here for a recall & originally the lady over the phone said it would take a half of a day to a full day. Which didn't make sense since it only takes an hour to reprogram my engine. When I arrived, the man (Jordan) said it will take 1-2 hours. In the end, it only took 45 minutes!! The sales team's answers on the availability of a car makes you wonder if they are really selling the original cars or doll cars. They don't know the availability of the car and are unable to search it within their system or in the location. They hide their mistakes and simply try to fool customers. When you question what responsibility they take, the sales manager Mr.Jordan reacts very rude towards the customer ( specifically if BROWN SKIN). He needs to get training and learn how to treat people, understand the situation and help customers, instead of showing disrespectful behavior. Horrible customer service and terrible lies. read more
