I am ashamed to admit just how unfit I am and almost allergic to any kind of exercise. It took some…read morepersuasion for me to go to David Llyod gym in Solihull, which altered my perspective of gymnasiums. It's a huge gym with great facilities and ample equipment to accommodate all users during peak times. It is well maintained and clean. Like I said, I don't exercise much. However I went with my sister who is a fitness freak and made the silly mistake of trying to keep up with her...I felt as though I was blacking out so went to the changing rooms where I eventually fainted. I woke up with two staff members next to me who offered me a drink, a comfortable room to rest and called for my sister. I was embarrassed beyond belief but they were so helpful that I felt the need to write this review. You're guaranteed superb service at this gym!

Holy cow, what an amazing gym! This place is the Mother Lode of fitness, an absolutely enormous…read morespace with a plentitude of fit and healthy things to eat, do and see. The racquetball/squash courts (of which there are five!) are of varying sizes, designed for pairs or singles. The tennis court area (indoors) is extremely large, with 6 courts and two small practice areas. The pool is really pretty, very nice, with gorgeous deckchairs all around, a lifeguard on staff, and pretty blue and white tiles. There is also an outdoor pool for the warm weather (or stiff of loin and strong of heart), with a small kiddie pool and a larger pool. Both pools have a section for mucking about, and a roped off area for swimming laps. There is a lifeguard outside too. Then there are the jacuzzis (two of them), three steam rooms and a similar number of saunas. There are masseurs on staff all the time, and a sports therapist you can see for deeper injuries/problems. The restaurant serves a full compliment of food, from traditional English pub grub to posh sandwiches, breakfast, and plenty of healthy options. Unfortunately, the food is crap. This stuff is bad, frozen, pre-cooked stuff that comes out cold. Twice eating here, and the last time was definitely my last. It takes about 30 minutes once the food is ordered for it to come out, which is horrendous for a place with five visible staff members in the restaurant, and only 10 covers. It must have been sitting on the side for about ten minutes, getting cold and soggy. So totally disappointing. But I guess if you're in need, it'll have to do! The staff at this DL are really really nice, helpful, polished and professional. This is a tremendous gym, with lots of sexy, fit people, and you should go there to get the same, if you aren't already.

After hearing a lot about this gym I decided to try it myself and it was better than I imagined…read more They have TVs and radios in all their cardio machines! I take full advantage of this and watch and listen to a variety of shows. The gym is quiet small but is excellent for what it is. The only thing I found a bit worrying was the fact that I didn't have an induction so it was lucky I've used all the machines before, elsewhere. Unfortunately they only have one of every toning and muscle building machine so you may wait a while if someone is on a one you want to use. On the other hand they have state of the art equipment. So you might be thinking this must cost a lot? The member ships start at forty five pounds a month and fifteen pound for each visit without a membership. The price includes swimming and the sauna and steam room. It also includes all their classes such as spin and yoga. So this offer was too good to refuse for me!

The Gym at the village isn't quite what you expect, for a hotel gym it is incredibly well equipped…read moreand a good size. I would almost put it on par with much large chain gyms, in addition the swimming pool is a good size and the jacuzzi is very large. Throw in a steam room and a sauna plus a full spin studio and 2 aerobics rooms and you have everything you need. Memberships is relative but cheaper than many local gyms and for £10 a month you can upgrade to the black card giving you a towel every time you go and also access to all other Village Gyms. I am impressed but I will say it is due a refit soon so hopefully it will get even better.

Whilst I realise this is a review for a big chain, I really think this one needs to be shouted…read moreabout! Context: I am a fat girl. I don't want to be a fat girl any more. I have been a member of a number of gyms in the past, and for many many reasons hated it and quit. I was determined this time to find one that would work for me. Enter Bannatyne's Brindley Place: The bizarre decor immediately appealed. The pool is dimly lit, so I don't feel super self conscious about my bits being on show, and the gym itself is never rammed full of people so I never feel I'm being looked at. The muscly oiled men keep to themselves in a separate area with free weights which also helps me feel less anxious about visiting. But the real reason this place is awesome is because of two very specific people: 1) Steve Northam - he inducted me into the gym, he puts up with my whinging and my craziness over any kind of exertion, and at times he can be a little bit strange too (he does competitive fencing! Amazing, right?!) but above all he encourages me to keep at it. And it seems to be working. 2) Lee - a personal trainer who runs the spinning class on Thursday mornings and Sunday evenings. He warms us up to COUNTING CROWS (yes, I know, it shouldn't make sense but IT DOES!) and continues the sessions mixing Lady Gaga and Alanis Morrissette and Pearl Jam and Kings of Leon and on the rare occasion we manage to twist his arm to turn on the disco lights, it's like doing a bike ride at Snobs. And I've discovered I LOVE it. So. Indie / metal spinning, and crazy helpful instructors? On that note I'm IN. (ahhh cheesy ending, I know, but I couldn't resist :)

A great way to spend a Saturday with a friend :-) Arriving at 10:30 I was determined to make use of all the facilities, and that's exactly what we did. My friend and I were shown around the health club - free water machine, changing rooms, swimming pool, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna. We spent spent our time relaxing on the loungers reading magazines and generally just chillaxing using the jacuzzi and steam and sauna rooms. The changing room facilities are great complete with the usual showers, toliets, lockers (don't forget a £1 coin!) drier for swimming costumes and hairdryers. You can also bring in your own hair straighteners to plug in. We each had a facial in the spa whereby they used a range of Elemis products on our skin which resulted in super soft skin. The spa staff were friendly and professional and I must say I felt very relaxed after my treatment as it included a head massage too. I will defintely returning for another spa day.
