This is not the first time I've experienced significant delays at this clinic. Additionally, the clinic consistently overcharges for products compared to other places. During my most recent visit, I asked for a prescription for my dog, but the vet declined saying that they can not give me one because this ear infection medication is not sold in human pharmacies, which I believe is not true. (as AVMA's Principles of Veterinary Medical Ethics reg client requesting a prescription) Due to these ongoing issues, I will be taking my dog to another clinic. I expect better service and more reasonable pricing from a veterinary provider. Alejandra T.

Even though I live in East Van I decided to trust her judgement. I was in fair state of upset when I arrived but Dr. Martinez was able to examine my cat right away. I could tell by the way he handled her and his calm, confident manner that she was in good hands. He invited me to go back to the treatment area with her, which I feel is very important. There is nothing worse than sitting in a waiting room while your sick critter is having things done to them in another room where you can't see. Dr. Martinez fully explained the necessary treatment for my ailing cat and provided me with thorough details for the nursing care she would require. He also recommended a herbal preparation to help her. We went home after paying our fairly reasonable bill and received a call from the Doctor the next day with her blood test results. He took the time to ask me how she was doing and provide further advice over the phone. A couple days later we went back for a follow up and I was again impressed by the Doctor's manner and generosity with his time. This is a quality veterinarian. My only other comment would be that they write out all their prescription labels as well as the invoice by hand, so expect to wait a bit while they prepare your medications a charges. It's a very small clinic and there is often just one tech working, so sometimes these things take even longer if there are other clients being helped.

We called in last minute for an emergency and received an appointment 15 min later. The wait was no more than another 15min before our puppy Mochi saw Dr. Rena. We explained our situation - Mochi, our 3 month old long haired dachshund puppy was suddenly trembling, lethargic, and had fragile breathes and couldn't walk. We didn't know what's going on and was so depressed and worried at the possibility of losing our baby. Dr. Rena came in and asked several questions to filter out possible causes quickly. And he then tested his vitals to make sure he's hanging in there. He was honest and considerate in the process, kept us in the loop in terms of prices and the treatment. After examination, he decided that the likely causes are either low glucose level or he ate something that would've been poisonous for him. He then put Mochi on IV for low glucose, heat pad to raise body temp, and chalk meds to rid of any poison inside his tummy to cover all grounds for the possible causes. He gave us a very reasonable quote and broke it down for us before and after the treatment. He stayed with Mochi to provide IV fluids all the way until the clinic closed at 6pm that day. The entire staff team took great care of Mochi during the hour he stayed there. We were so happy that we found this clinic on a short notice with such kind people to care for our baby. After 2 hours off the IV, Mochi came home rejuvenated and lively. The care did not stop here! Dr. Rena asked for our phone number and kept in touch with us for the following 2 days to ensure that Mochi was recovering. We can't thank Dr. Rena enough for saving out puppy!!

I went to this vet as a walkby and the veterinary assistant was so wonderful and helpful. She even made several phone calls to see if the vet that specializes in hedgehogs that was not in that day was working at a different clinic that day. I made an appointment to see Dr. Chow and she was warm and friendly with my hedgie. She has taken an additional 2 years of training to specialize in small pets (hedgehogs, rodents etc) which reassured me she understood the specific things to look for in a hedgehog. There is definately a vibe that animal lovers work there. I only gave this four stars only for the reason that the hedgehog vet is not there every day but works at a few clinics rotating. That can be frustrating in an emergency. Otherwise it would have been five stars. There is plenty of parking as this is an old style shopping mall in richmond.

At this time, I also started opting out of their very expensive plans and advice on additional add ons. We did all of the required vaccines and treatments but would turn down their dog plans and stopped buying things in advance (they will push you to purchase flea/tick 6 months in advance and things like that). I noticed that their attitude started changing towards me and my dog at this point, they labelled him as aggressive and seemed to judge me for getting my dog from a breeder and would tell me all sorts of preconceived judgement towards the breed. They told me he had allergies that required expensive treatments and were more than happy to give him cytopoint and aquopel. I eventually switched vets and have none of these issues at our new one. My experience happened at Ironwood which is near #5 Road and Steveston Highway near the tunnel, run by the same owners. My vet was Dr. Ceballos, although I have no doubt that any vet connected with either location would be as excellent. Dr. Ceballos spoke to my dog and patted her a bit (unlike some vets who sadly, have become so disengaged from their job that they no longer interact with the animal client in this manner). He took his time speaking with me (again, unlike some vets who exude a feeling of wanting to rush through and get out of there), answered questions, listened to comments, and generally made us both feel welcome and that we mattered. I received a quote that was designed simply, for the layman to understand and he walked me through it. My dog only got a teeth cleaning but if she had a serious issue, I'd feel very confident in bringing her back here. The tech (Ashley?) who performed the work was great as well, explained everything fully and made me feel comfortable with the procedure. The final bill came out less than the quote; when I inquired why I was told that they needed to take fewer xrays than anticipated. I could imagine that an unscrupulous vet could've charged me as per the quote anyway (or even a bit more) and I wouldn't have known or questioned the reason why. Bonus points for that! I couldn't recommend Dr. Ceballos and the team at Ironwood Animal Hospital more.

They didn't charge us for the first exam, which was nice. The main exam room in the back had a cat strolling around and was an open area with a lot of tools and materials. The vet ....he didn't take the time to gain the trust of my puppy, so she didn't warm to him. And she usually loves all people. We had a lot of questions, as this is our first, and he seemed to brush them off as if they were silly questions and gave us vague "yeah she's fine" type answers. He gave her a half a pill, and she didn't take it, as she didn't trust him. So he forced it down her throat, held her jaws shut, and rubbed her throat to make her swallow it, and guess what? She spat it out...he was not gentle or warm to her at all. He tried it again, and she spat it out. He finally managed to force it down her throat ... it was hard to watch. The second half of the pill I just took the pill and put it in my hand with some treats I had and she took it immediately. Hmmm... I'm not a vet but he could have tried that first instead of being so rough with her ! Not the best first vet experience. We went somewhere else.

He wasn't eating his food and seemed depressed and lethargic. My first impression was like "oh fu$!?" as we were waiting to be seen because I heard a conversation between the two reception/vet assistants where one of them referred to another person's dog as "that lady with that disgusting dog." I was shocked, I wasn't sure if I should have left but I figured whatever, improfessional but shouldn't reflect directly to the Vet himself. We were led into one of the examination rooms shortly and this is when my dog really got nervous. He's an 80 pound Husky/lab/collie and who knows what else mix. A rescue and quite a nervous dog in unfamiliar situations. I was very pleased with how the Vet interacted with him!! Gave him time to gain trust, lick his hand and pet him. I've been to a different place in the past where the Vet got nervous and pretty much half assed the whole examination. Anywhos. He figured that my dog might have an ear infection and couldn't really find anything else wrong with him externally as to why he won't eat his regular food. He was VERY throuough and made suggestions before actually doing them which I found super helpful and nice. He asked before doing any sort of tests. We figured that it might just be the ear infection that had him acting weird and to try that first before anything else. It was pretty expensive. It came to $100 for checkup, ear swab, ear cleaner and an ear drop. I was expecting maybe around $75 range. I would still come back if I had to though!
