First off I must say we started with the bourbon bread pudding omg that was absolutely delicious definitely recommend start with that because it's a lot off food. The food and sides delicious didn't disappoint. The Place is super cute especially for date night. Our server was very attentive and nice.

Great portions with flavorful food! My group of four shared the wings and bbq mac and cheese with brisket on top for starters. They were filling starters for us and then the plates came and my eyes were bigger than my stomach lol took the rest to go because the portions were big. Everything was tasty. I got a mango colada that came in a fun tiki glass with a pretty flower. The server was on top of things making sure our glasses were full also setting a friendly and fun atmosphere. We barely saved room for dessert and it was totally worth it!

Great service, everyone working there made sure each guest was taken care of. Great for large party,s or just dinning alone. Food was on point. Ribs were tender and full of flavor. Pork belly had just the right crispness. Beef brisket had a great bark to it. My only issue was it was a little too much fat for my taste, my husband loved it. The potato salad was so delicious. They no longer have a live band but they pump in some pretty good tunes. We will definitely be back.

I was in the Whittier area and was looking for a BBQ spot. This place was highly recommended by the locals. I was craving Brisket and saw it on the menu and couldn't help myself and ordered the Brisket sandwich. To my surprise they were out. First time going to a BBQ restaurant and they dont have Brisket. I tried the tri tip and it was good as well. Our waitress Melissa was very attentive and provided supreme service. Although they didnt have Brisket the venue was welcoming and would probably come back. My rating is only because they didnt have Brisket. That can always change in the future Photos of the food we ended up having.

My sister recently took me to Steve's barbecue in Whittier for my birthday. There's street parking and alley parking. I almost missed the restaurant because it looks like it's part of an office building. I was very surprised when I walked in because I love how cozy, warm and inviting it is. They use lots of browns and faux leather pillows with nice padded bench seating. They also have a small bar towards the back of the restaurant with top tables. I was pleasantly surprised how pretty it was inside. Our waitress and busser were very friendly. We got there an hour before they closed and unfortunately missed out on the brisket. I definitely need to come back because that was what I came for. We ended up with a combination plate of barbecue and everything including the sides were delicious. In addition, we ordered a cocktail and a mocktail, and both were made fantastic. The waitress brought out a delicious bread pudding, dessert for my birthday and it was amazing. I wish they were closer to just so I can stop by and pick up another piece. This is definitely worth coming back and it's a great date night spot. It's a must!

Steve's BBQ is a lot nicer inside than it looks from the storefront. It certainly had me fooled. The inside is roomy and modern. In fact, there's a sizable bar in the back if you're just looking to grab a drink. We started off with an order of buffalo wings ($18). These were quite good. And quite substantial. The chicken was tender with a crispy exterior - not too bread-y per my preference. In fact, the chicken had a really nice, smokey taste. Delish. I ordered the chicken BLT ($21) with a side of fries. The sandwich comes with a grilled, boneless chicken breast, topped with bacon, lettuce + tomato on a fresh ciabatta. The chicken breast itself was succulent. It had good flavor and was the star of the show, however it definitely needed a better vessel than the ciabatta bread which subsequently succumbed to all the meat juices and crumpled apart. Tragic. The heat from the chicken breast also did a number to the lettuce (wilt city) and tomato. It was good, but then it wasn't. The BBQ Burger ($27) was good-ish. You get a half pound cheeseburger topped with pulled pork, onion rings, pickles, garlic aioli & bbq sauce on a brioche bun. It's a good burger, but could have stood without the pulled pork. Is it worth $27? Idk. The fries, on the hand, were delicious. I'd love to come back to try any of their BBQ entrees. The steep prices are a slight deterrent, especially for casual weeknight dinner. Steve's BBQ is a good dinner option for Uptown Whittier especially since so many of the nicer dining options places have close in recent times.

First time here celebrating my mom's birthday it was fantastic. Host was awesome and she was attentive! The server was great, friendly, and was always checking in to make sure everything is good. She was on top of the refills which I liked. There are lots of tables and a bar for a wonderful evening to have bbq. It was delicious. My ribs were cooked to perfection and the Mac and cheese was my favorite as it was creamy and cheesy. The definitely don't mess with their cheese proportions. The baked beans were delicious too. They were my moms favorite. The ribs were so yummy, tender, and juicy. Very flavorful! I will be back. It's in a great location of uptown Whittier.

First time trying Steve's BBQ Restaurant can't believe it's been in same location Whittier for 24 years. If you want delicious tender BBQ brisket and beef ribs this is the place. I thought Lucille's or Ruby Redsand Gus's (pasadena) was good BBQ their is no comparison. The flavor is exceptional even the spicy BBQ sauce is tasty. The baked beans and coleslaw , baked potatoe was also quite good. The Service was very friendly we were seated right away. Received our drinks quickly. Food served hot and correct. Very attentive. The restaurant itself is not fancy but very clean. Price is reasonable for the quality BBQ Meat they serve. Four adults 1 beer 2 sodas Full rack beef ribs, Brisket, pork ribs,salad and sides with tip $240. Definitely a favorite BBQ spot

I've heard people say this place is pretty good unfortunately we did not have that type of experience with the food This has nothing to do with the customer service, which was very, very good. It has to do with the food. The barbecue baby back ribs were very dry and overcooked They had no smoke flavor. As advertise on their website, it just taste like a chili seasoning with put on the ribs had no barbecue flavor whatsoever. The coleslaw did not have a great consistency. Coleslaw water down. No coleslaw flavor. Sorry to say, but the macaroni and cheese was not very good at all. No thickness consistency just very water down for flavor. our family will not be going back very disappointed. Our family spent a lot of money on their expensive food for it did not be high-quality.

DELICIOUS BBQ! GREAT DATE SPOT. Uptown Whittier is super fun and a great area to go on a date with fun shops, restaurants, bars, and desserts spots. We've been to Steve's BBQ twice now and love it. The BBQ is falling off the bone tender and delicious. The burgers are juicy and craveable. The service was great, we had the same server each time and she explained everything and made sure we had refills. We got the Guacamole burger and the 2 item combo with baby back ribs and brisket. The Brisket was Smokey and had the perfect amount of fat. The spicy BBQ sauce was delicious. We got the Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries for our sides. A table next to us got the Beef ribs and they were giant like dinosaur bones- Flintstones style. They also have a diverse bar menu. The only downside is that it is a little bit expensive. But it's a fun area and worth it.

I went there yesterday with friends and it was amazing. I got the baby back ribs, with Potato salad, beans Excellent food. My first friend got the Brisket sandwich and fries. My second friend got Brisket with sides. They both loved the food and they will be bringing their family back with them. The service was very fast and pleasant. Every server was very friendly and kind. The environment was great it was comfortable, relaxing, and we were just having a good time with friends and great food. You couldn't ask for anything better. I will continue to eat at Steve's BBQ. The Best BBQ i have ever eaten an my friends agreed. Love this place!

Sunday brunch was delicious, great, fast and friendly service, the interior is gorgeous . 10/10 The brisket breakfast burrito is a definite must have with the green salsa they serve was tasty and mild spice . Definitely recommend.

The food was AMAZING! The customer service was just as amazing as the food. We were seated right away, and our drink order was taken. It was our 1st time there, and we ordered the 3 meat to share. Baby back ribs, pork belly, & tir-tip were freaking DELICIOUS. We also had the loaded mashed potatoes and mac & cheese they were yummy. The restaurant was lightly dimmed and great music. I've enjoyed Steve's for a couple of years now but today's experience left me worried and bothered. My brother ordered the 3 meat plate. He asked for chicken as one of the options but was given ribs. He told our server and she came back with a fork and plate , removed the meat from the plate my brother was eating off of, and took it back. The thought that someone else might've gotten that piece of meat ruined our dinner. Very weird to do. Can't say we'll be back. read more

First time eating here, and we ordered togo. We ordered the chili verde fries and the Tri tip sandwich with a potato salad. Omg everything was amazing! Definitely coming back, I can't believe I never knew this place was here!?! Very flavorful, nothing overcooked or dry. Bread soft and crunchy, not soggy from the meat, and yet the meat had sauce on it, plus extra on the side. Best potato salad I've ever eaten- so creamy. Yum! read more

I really didn't like the food. The presentation on the website and in person looks really really good But as soon as you taste the food the brisket was dry and no flavor, The baby back ribs were also somewhat dry with no flavor. The only meat I did enjoy Was the beef ribs but the town side of the beef ribs they don't take The clear membrane off the back of the wrist before cooking them. So this made the Beef Ribs hard to remove with out making a mess. read more

This was our first time trying this place but our friends are regulars. Now I know why! The food is so delicious. The collard greens were really good and the brisket was delicious. Our server was very accommodating of our one year old and was kind in helping us microwave our baby food. As for the food, I was sadly disappointed because the posts on Instagram look amazing!!! I was first surprised by the delicious bread (8/10). The ribs were one of the first I've ever had.. it's quite difficult to mess up ribs so it was disappointing for me 3/10. The bbq beans and veggies were fine 6.5/10. The fries were the saddest part because I'm a huge fan of fries. They were hard on the outside and dry on the inside, which is a horrible combination. I believe they were old and refried several times before they were served to me. I still ate them because I'm a fry lover, so 2/10. The brisket was not the best, but it was solid, most parts were pretty tender and juicy and on point with the flavor 8/10. Finally the best for last is Mac and cheese 8/10, great flavor and texture. If I come back I would prob get the brisket and Mac and cheese but also I'd like to try the burgers. In summary, I liked the bread, Mac, and brisket most. They really need to do ribs and fried better because those are usually safe and hard to mess up. read more

Celebrating my daughter's birthday. She chose this location. Once again, Steve's didn't disappoint. Both of us had the BBQ Brisket with sweet potato fries. I do want to commit on our server. Pleasant but a bit too persistent in her table visits. We knew they were closing in an hour but we wanted to talk privately about some matters. I felt we didn't have much of that opportunity. Chicken tenders were excellent! I've been coming to Steve BBQs for years usually for the live bands. My husband and I came for a quick bite to eat as we were walking up and down Uptown Whittier. I ordered the jalapeno poppers and they were nice and crunch with a ooey gooey center of cream cheese and jalapenos. They ran out of buffalo wings so my husband ordered the chicken tenders tossed with buffalo sauce. OMG! They were sooo good. The chicken tenders were huge, crispy on the outside and juicy meat on the inside. We really enjoyed them! I also ordered the Mexican candy as a shot. It had a Tajin rim, with Malibu rum and pineapple. It was really light and refreshing. Our server was Melissa great. She was really friendly and attentive. We really had a good time here. Great food. We had the wings, the pork fries, the sliders, the mozzarella sticks, mashed potatoes and gravy, and the half ribs. Everything was great except Mozzarella sticks which were good. We especially enjoyed the wings and ribs. Drinks were also very good. We had several of their house cocktails and thought their espresso martini is one of the best around. Everyone at Steve's BBQ.... Literal angels!!!! My husband and I recently got married and we had Steve's cater for us. When I say the whole team, especially Josh, went above and beyond to make sure our day was PERFECT, they did just that. We had a few in person meetings at the restaurant and every single time we walked in, we were always happily greeted (and had the best dinners). Josh took care of us from begging to end... And he did way more than I was ever expecting. He helped us not only with the food (dinner AND a charcuterie board for cocktail hour) but he also helped us with things that didn't cross our minds: plates, utensils, linen, keeping the food hot, what we were going to do with leftover food, etc... He also helped set up other things that were part of the wedding that he definitely didn't have to do! He did constant check ins as we got closer to the wedding and whenever I had a question, he was right on it. The food..... We had ribs, chicken, mac and cheese, loaded mashed potatoes and salad.... Everyone at the wedding, including ourselves, just wanted to keep eating because of how amazing it was! Even days after the wedding, I had people ask where the food was from because they had to have it again. My family and I enjoy having dinner there and having them be part of our special day was PERFECT! read more

Came here for dinner. We sat outside in the tents since it was perfect weather to do so. We ordered the pork belly mac and cheese, honey sriracha wings, and fries. We also got a pitcher of mango margarita. The pork belly Mac and cheese was really good. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. Now the wings, they were just alright. The flavor of the sauce was awesome. Sweet, but with a kick. The wings themselves though were a little tough. When we got the margarita and realized it was blended we thought it would be your regular weak blended margarita where all you can taste is the sweetness of the mango flavor, but nope. This pitcher did not disappoint! I'm coming back for another pitcher and to try their other food soon. The service was great. Very attentive. Can't wait to go back! read more

The wife had found this place on Instagram and wanted to come check it out. So we made the drive here with our friends and it did not disappoint. Our server was Erick. He was really helpful and was attentive that made our experience here a good one. I had the brisket grilled cheese sandwich. It was delicious! The wife had a bbq burger and she said it was amazing! Our friends ordered a rack of bbq ribs(sharing size) and they were finger licking good. We will definitely be back for more. Our sides were mashed potatoes, cole slaw, twice baked potatoes, bbq baked beans, garlic toast bread and loaded potatoes. Everything was really good!!! read more

3X visits in one week, these results speak for itself. In general, I'm not a big BBQ fan yet Steve's is definitely making me re-think about my lifelong position. I appreciate that between her helping other tables another team member kept our table clean. Kudos to the team work. I tried this place based on the well put together IG videos. The presentation is on point to IG, but I was expecting more flavor in the meats! My husband had the brisket grilled cheese, he had to add two sauces for flavor, my son had a burger and added brisket but he said it lacked flavor overall, my Nachos were good, I wish it had more brisket, there were plenty of refried beans (if that's your thing). I was looking forward to the peach cobbler a la mode, but it was very Diabetic friendly (some nutmeg, cinnamon, butter maybe) .. my son had the bourbon bread pudding, that was really tasty. My boyfriend and I love Steve's BBQ. The food is delicious. The ribs, Mac & cheese, chile verde fries, potato salad in other words come and try it yourself. Now the drinks are absolutely delightful! Their jalapeño margaritas are pure deliciousness and my favorite is the lemon drop martini. It's a perfect place for lovers, friends and family friendly. You can even have your dinner parties there. Our name says it all "Steve's BBQ" we speacialize in Louisiana style bbq. We slow smoke our meats in our house made rubs then charbroil them on the open flame. The end result is a tender fall off the bone, melt in your mouth ribs that will make you want to come back for more.

History

Established in 2001.

Our history at Steve's Bbq in Uptown Whittier started over 20 years ago. We wanted a little place that served made from scratch Louisiana style bbq, fresh side dishes like potato salad, cole slaw and bbq beans. We eventually started serving beer and wine to satisfy customers cravings while eating that mouthwatering food. After some time we introduced live entertainment on the weekends then it grew from there. Looking at it now, 20 years later, we would have never thought it could've turned in to the place it is today. Our customers have kept us going and we will continue to please them the way we know how with great food and great service. Thank you for allowing us to serve you!

Meet the Business Owner: Steve H.

When he 14 years old Steve started his restaurant career working as a busboy. After a short time there he worked as a server, then bartender and eventually manager. He realized his passion was hospitality and the restaurant business so he attempted opening his own restaurant in the 90's. After a few attempts at different locations he reached the current location in Uptown Whittier in 2001. Here, in Uptown Whittier, he and his family have flourished with over 21 years of serving Whittier and the surrounding areas with great BBQ and great cocktails. Steve will continue to do what he knows best which is give the customer a great experience and keep them coming back.

I decided to treat my brother to dinner as a way to show my appreciation for him, and after offering a few suggestions, he chose this delightful eatery. I started my meal with a refreshing margarita and some mozzarella cheese sticks that were wonderfully chewy, gooey, and utterly delicious. As for my main dish, I was uncertain about what to choose. I knew I wanted to avoid a burger and wasn't in the mood for pork, so I opted for a beef entree. I paired it with a potato salad and two sides: mac and cheese and collard greens. I must say, everything was delicious, but the collard greens were quite different from what I had expected--too vinegary with a hint of sweetness. However, the potato salad was a must-try--trust me, you won't be disappointed! The mac and cheese was equally satisfying, and my serving of beef was impressively tender. They did forget my toast at first, but it was brought out midway through my meal. My brother ordered some wings, but they went untouched as he dove into a large burger with fries, which he clearly loved since he polished off the whole meal. We also ordered a BLT without tomatoes to take with us. I can confidently say that I'll be back; I just wish they offered a private dining area for parties or a special menu for larger groups--perfect for events like graduation celebrations. This place is a toilet. I was attacked by some guy named Steve while three security guards just sat back and laughed. I love Whittier, I wish our city council that gave them permission to operate past midnight felt the same way. It was the first time I had ever been at this dump, I was inside for about 30 seconds; no exaggeration before I was told by security that I would have to leave and that I would be beaten up once I left. Sure enough I was attacked.This is not a safe place to go. Really, stay away, its a complete dump, keep your self safe and go to another restaurant, 6740, The Bottle Room, etc. While our city council tried to keep this a secret, for what reason I don't know, two people died at their Montebello location back in 2001, its really not a safe place to go. A few years ago they had gunfire inside, who knows why, but again our city council decided to give them another chance. Another chance to take two more lives maybe? It was a Thursday night and my friend wanted to meet for dinner and drinks. She suggested a place that isn't too far from my house but I had no idea was there. It's in uptown so there are lots of other great places to eat but only have beer and wine. I guess not all places have a full bar but this place sure does and has some great cocktails. Steves walks around as if he owns BJs. This place is sad, owner is always pounding back shots n beer while I have seen him hassle his employees while a female older bartender is as rude as it gets. My wife and I had our reception here. My family really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. All of my guests raved about the band referred by Steve. Steve is the owner and he really out did himself. I admire and support businesses where the owner is hands on with everything. I Love...Love their drinks and food! Their BBQ ribs are to die for. The ribs literally comes off the bones with just a small bite... enjoying the delicious flavor. Nachos are so good if you can afford the calories but I highly recommend the nachos. My favorite drink is the "Mango Margarita" when I visit steve's bbq the treatment is excellent. The service you get from the employees is excellent as well. I highly recommend this place for a fun night or taking your client for a quick business meeting, during the week is quite and intimate. Friday is the ideal place to have fun. read more

Trashy nightlife at its worse.. This place is horrible and filled with nothing but old people past their prime, aging cougars, who are now in the realm of the sabertooth ( you know that 58 year old woman who still thinks shes hot and want to have fun but it is way past her prime and she smokes a pack a day) and bald headed people looking for trouble.. avoid this place like the plague.. lest ye be warned! read more

What a FUN place. The service and employees are excellent. The food is affordable and delicious but the best part of their menu are their " Mango Margarita" oh boy... they should bottle them and sell them for a profit. The owners and employees are always pleasant and welcoming. The dance floor rocks on Friday nights and I heard is the same on Sundays. One of the best place in uptown Whittier. read more

Well, my husband and I gave this place a try the other night. We got a full rack of beef ribs and some brisket on the side. My husband also got a beer. The brisket met my husbands standards but the beef ribs were overcooked and not too meaty. It was over $90.00 for the both of us and I just drank water...It just was overpriced in our opinion and the ribs were tough...Don't waste your time.. read more

Worst customer service ever! Walked in with the family and decided to seat ourselves since no waitresses where in site, once we sat down some gangsta looking girl walks up to our table and informs us that the table is reserved. Not even one waitress tried to accommodate our party. Our party felt very unwelcomed. Ultimately, it was the establishments loss. read more

I wish I could give this place 5 stars but i cant. The music is good. Mostly cover bands and who doesnt like cover bands? But there sure are some trouble makers sometimes. Women there are well-MILF's- and who doesnt love them. Haha!!! It's okay to go to once in a while with friends. Kinda the only place to go to since all the other joints close early. read more

I've been here several times and last night was the first time I had been there since they renovated the place. It looks a lot better and the crowd is a lot better too. Service was a lot more friendly. You can tell they put thought into the drink menu. I highly recommend the Mexican Candy drink. read more
