    The Eusebiuskerk is THE big church in the old center of Haarlem, and it's also the tallest building…read morein the whole city (93 meters). The first stone was laid in 1452 but the church was severely damaged during World War II, specifically during the fighting around Operation Market Garden. The church was completely burnt out and the tower actually collapsed. The 'bare bones' i.e. exterior of the church remained and was restored between 1946 and 1961, with the current church tower being built during the restoration period. The church is no longer used for religious services but rather as a tourist attraction - you can even take an elevator up to the top of the church tower to enjoy the view. It is currently (until 2017/18) the temporary home of Het Gelders Orkest while their existing home, the Musis Sacrus, is being renovated. His directly impacts when the church is open to the public, since when there orchestra is rehearsing you can't come in and wander around. So be sure to check the website if the Eusebiuskerk before visiting - and check the website if the orchestra if you are interested in taking in a concert!

    I would say that this is a church, but I don't actually think that this is a church anymore, just a…read morebuilding that was once a church, and that everybody thinks is a church, but instead of being a church is actually just used as a meeting hall and conference room which, I must admit, is basically what most churches actually are. You do have to pay to go inside, but the main reason is because it costs a lot of upkeep and it seems that they have to fork that money out of their own pocket. The cool thing about this particular church is that they have an elevator to the top of the tower.
