The plating looks amazing, but the sauces on the plate feels so disconnected. I feel like some of the ingredients are only put on the plant for presentation. And not every ingredients are meaningful on the dish. The morning breakfast bar however, was really great. Lots of local ingredients to choose from and they have a great selections of honey. I would recommend staying at this hotel and try their dinner. Just don't be expecting a Michelin Star meal then you should really enjoy this place.

The spa was one of the best I've experienced and every bit deserving of its five-star rating. The alpine ski has miles of mostly blue runs. But what this high plateau lacks in grade it makes up for in high altitude expanse. One of the highlights for me was Nordic skiing. There are extensive trails running throughout with something for every skill level. Next time I'll book it as a Nordic skiing and spa vacation.

Cavallino d'Oro is right on the Main Square…read more(Piazza Kraus) and features a welcoming Tirolean character and superb service by Stefan, Suzanne, and their very attentive staff. This is one of those review situations where Gayle and I could add a 6th Star. It's easy to be charmed by Castelrotto/Kastelruth, which has an appealing village character, mountains in the background, a traffic free center, centuries of history, friendly and engaging locals, and small town family feel. That last point further emphasized at the nearby central bus stop that was across the street from a school. In the morning when we were heading out, parents were walking their kids to school, while in the late afternoon when we returned, our public SAD bus dropped us off and immediately loaded up with lots of happy children as a school bus to take that group home. The center of Village action is Piazza Kraus, that includes a cool bell tower (with Chapel), a Catholic Church that seems plain on the outside, but is amazingly appointed and spiritual on the inside, and the Cavallino d'Oro. There were many highlights during our stay including: - A nicely appointed room, with lots of space to move around or hang out, a good strong hot shower, and comfortable beds. - An exceptionally good restaurant. We had Dinner there one night on their half-board plan, which was not only "Kick Ass", but a great value for the money. The breakfasts were also excellent and the Dining Room itself almost begs you to stay a little bit longer (especially at our table that had the alpine view). - A comfortable lounge area where Gayle and I would sit in comfortable chairs, with a drink from the bar, and hang out. A good Wi-Fi signal is available throughout the Hotel, but it almost seemed like a shame to use it in such relaxing and romantic circumstances. - Free laundry machines in the basement. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to use the steam room and sauna just across the hall. - Great Advice. The Hotel has lots of available literature on tourist choices in the area and Hotel staff were very accommodating with various inquiries. I witnessed one teenage guest who had a question about leather bags being sold as part of the Thursday morning market on the Square. The person at the front desk accompanied her out to several of the booths and helped her decide on a choice. I was interested in buying a cow bell, which I thought was the perfect and authentic Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm momento. Stefan was quick to suggest the local Coop, which had a wide variety of these genuine items. I'm not sure when Gayle and I would have the next chance to visit the South Tyrol of Italy. Maybe we should come during the Winter Holidays featuring the Castelrotto Christmas Market, the appearance of Krampus, or a performance by the Kastelruther Spatzen folk music group? If that happens (God willing), we'll surely be staying at the Cavallino d'Oro.

This is a really lovely place to stay!…read more * The rooms are beautiful (we stayed in a "superior suite" with its own little garden for two nights, and then moved to a smaller room on the third floor after that (as the amazing suite was already booked...) * The baths are big enough for two people to soak in after a long day hiking/climbing mountains * The food is simple, but really good quality. Our breakfast *and* dinner was included in the price. The dinner consisted of lovely three or four course meals every evening. They get you to choose what you'd like to eat for dinner at breakfast, so it stops them wasting food as they know what they'll need to cook. * The wine they suggest to go with the daily menu was lovely, and cheap as chips. * There is a sauna and steam room that you can book for a bit of private relaxation (free) * They even have a washing machine and dryer that you can use for free (which is perfect if you've already been travelling for a while before you get here...) * All the staff seem to be multilingual. I was impressed by their speedy switching from German to Italian, but everyone had excellent English too. * The wifi works well, although it is a little slow. I would be happy to stay here again.

The women are dressed like maidens and every breathtaking view will remind you of the sound of music. After dinner, head down to the wine cellar for wine and cheese and they also offer a variety of strudel for your sweet tooth. Breakfast consists of eggs made to order, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, cereal, fruit juices, coffee. The church next door rings bells every 15mins, but after the first hour you don't even notice it. The hotel has mostly older guests, 65+, but if you're younger and looking for some nightlife, there is a bar down the hill (1 minute walk) that offers live music and drinks. My two gripes: the bathroom is tiny and the door is glass so you have zero privacy. The beds are a little old and creek with every turn. All in all, it was a great experience and I'm glad we checked this off of our bucket list!

Breathtaking view with long gorgeous pistes that are catered mostly to intermediate skiers made this my favorite ski resort. The spectacular panoramic view of the Alps exceeds Obereggen and Alta Badia by far, it's hands down the best scenic resort. It's probably one of the most popular ski destination with the possible celebrity sightings such as F.Alonso, Massa, Valentino Rossi who are some of the regulars. With 19 lifts (5 gondolas, 12 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts) the resort offers skiers an incredible 1000 metres (3281 feet) of vertical descent and has 35 pistes with a total length of 60 kilometers. I snowboarded here during the week of Xmas from Dec.23 to Dec. 28 and I cannot ask for any better time to come here..... the pistes were almost empty!!! Since most people prefer to stay home with their family during the Xmas week, we got such an amazing deal for 4 nights stay with 4 days ski pass, breakfast, and 3 course dinner for only 420 euro from a nearby hotel (Hotel Canada)!! However, starting the 28th the pistes were getting crowded and the price hiked. I would definitely go back again...... I can't wait!!!!

No free weights, no weight machines. -the Restaurant Park Laurin (again, in a BEAUTIFUL environment under a canopy on the grounds) was good but not great. -The lobby was pretty sweltering when we first entered. (in June) But enough minor complaints. Overall, the place was pretty awesome. Just old-school enough, very charming, spacious rooms, amazing grounds to walk around (see pix), all the staff were great, deluxe breakfast buffet. The cocktail we had on the Laurin Bar patio overlooking the lush, green grounds made for one of the best moments of the 4 days in Bolzano.

My only complaint is that it did not begin until 7:30 a.m. I like to get an early start on hikes so I would prefer it start at 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. Third, the dinner that came with half board. Each night we had a different menu Every night they had a very good salad bar and then a 3-4 course meal with at least 2 different selections for each course. Usually the main meal included either fish, meat or a vegetarian option. Fourth, the hotel works with Val Gardena Active which offers a variety of daily activities. Their fees are covered by the hotel. We used them to go on 3 different hikes. Fifth, the staff was very helpful and accommodated all of your needs.

Ortisei is a lovely town to visit and while hotel Grones is not located in the center of town…read more(...that a good thing!) it's perfectly situated up top and is really only like a 5-10 minute was to the town center. Grones is family owned and super charming. What's even better, is there are only 25 rooms. A lot of the hotels in Ortisei are cater to families, which is fine but also a lot more chaotic. Grones is certainly family friendly but the rest and relaxation aspect is not lost here. The family is fully involved and you see them daily, which is wonderful. They are personable and literally greeted each once us (there were five people in our group) personally when we arrived. The rooms: We booked a superior room and had views to the valley which was lovely! Our room was decently sized, although the standard rooms are on the petite side and not all of them offer a view. Rooms were very clean, offer complimentary water and wifi. The food: The rates are half board (if you choose), meaning that breakfast and dinner are included. This is common in Europe and often quite good. We ate all of our meals here because they were excellent! Breakfast offers a gorgeous and fresh array of fruit, bread, pastries, charcuterie, cereal, nuts, granola, eggs, and the list goes on. Dinner is four-five courses nightly. The menu also changes each night, so you won't get bored. They are very accommodating to any dietary restrictions as well. The food is fresh and inventive. You get the same table for the duration of your stay which is so nice! You literally don't have think of anything on your stay! Amenities: The hotel also has a pool and jacuzzi in addition to a spa sauna, turkish bath, and steam room. The facilities are really nice and peaceful. Perfect to chill out after a day of hiking or skiing. Hotels in the area are equipped for all summer and winter mountain activities, Grones ensures you have access to everything you need to make your stay in Val Gardena amazing. They're a Val Gardena partner, meaning that hotel guests can take advantage of specials and discounts offered by the Val Gardena visitors bureau. Every morning, the hotel provides a one-sheet at your breakfast table with hiking suggestions, weather provisions and local activities. What makes Grones special is their attention to detail and care for their guests. It's one of those places where you just feel relaxed. Ortisei attracts a lot of tourism for good reason! There are a lot of hotels to choose from, but this one has a genuine feel to it that is hard to come by. We'd stay here again!
