Studio 116 Dance School - Wanna learn how to dance on your wedding day?

Dancing was one of the things in life that gave me the creeps. I'd been dreading it simply because…read moreI didn't know how to dance. So when my then girlfriend -- now wife -- asked me if I danced, I told her that real mean don't dance. For a time, my excuse worked because she never really asked me to join her dance at the parties and events that we attended. But when I proposed to her, she said she will only accept the proposal if I agreed to a couple dance on our wedding. Egad! I didn't have any choice so I relented and consented to learn how to dance. In order to prepare for our wedding dance, we enrolled at Anyone Can Dance beginner's class at Studio 116. At first I struggled to follow the steps, the beat, and rhythm of the Viennese Waltz, Swing, and Boogie. But after twelve sessions I was more confident and I enjoyed our dance classes more. The instructors were helpful and our dance mates were friendly. It's like we're a family there. I was enjoying myself so much that I enrolled both of us in another class. This time we learned Latin dances like Tango, Salsa, Cha Cha, and Bachata. For those who are interested in dancing for fitness, the studio also offers Zumba and Shiba classes from Mondays to Saturdays. Rates are around PHP 550.00 per session for social dancing and fitness classes. But the price can go significantly lower if you pay 8 or 16 sessions in advance. Major credit cards are accepted. Although majority of the students in the studio just want to learn social dancing like us, Studio 116 can help those who want to join competitions and become professional ballroom dancers. Advanced dance classes are offered and representatives from the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing visit the studio twice a year to hold tests and evaluation. Those who will undergo the rigorous training and pass the evaluation will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement from the United Kingdom Alliance.

Signed up for the circuit training session and loved how it keeps everything moving--no time to get bored with those quick 30-second switches between stations. The variety is insane: one minute you're doing kettlebell swings, next it's TRX rows, then some bodyweight stuff that actually challenges you. The trainers were super encouraging without being pushy, and the vibe in the group classes is so motivating--everyone's just there grinding together. Finished with a quick Body Balance class to stretch and cool down, and I left feeling energized instead of wiped out. This place really makes fitness fun again. 5 stars, no question--I'll be back regularly now!

I was first introduced to 360 Fitness Club about four years ago when I decided I wanted to lose weight. The journey to slimmer me wasn't easy but being at 360 made it seem less like work because the workout were actually fun. Their circuits change every quarter so I don't get bored doing the same things over and over again. Plus, group classes like suspension training, kettle bell, Body Jam, yoga, and even Zumba make going to the gym a lot less taxing. And who doesn't love options when it comes to their workouts? If you're like me, and want to take your workout a notch higher, I suggest you avail of their personal training service. Depending on your fitness goal (weight loss, toning, etc.), they have a fine number of men and women to help you out. I have my trainer to thank because these days I can lift weights I never thought I could and even climb mountains!

The focus of this martial is simultaneous defense and offense. It accomplishes this by redirecting an opponent's attack and at the same time a quick blow that will end the figh quickly. I found the Wing Chun class on Google and I just started from their. A few days later, I found myself talking to the instructor, Mr. Jack Gallardo. I started by learning the forms and then doing it again and again. The logic to this is to perfect the movement and stance. Mr. Gallardo describes the forms as some sort of letters in the alphabet. When the forms are mastered, they can then be applied to form different sentences. Every session is tiring. We start with warm up exercises and the forms. We then move on to learning the basic stances and techniques. Sometimes, we have Chi Sao drills that are supposed to improve our sense of movement and response. The progress is slow because the disciplines need to be mastered before moving on to higher stages. The base needs to be firm my classmates would always say. After every session we have a burnout exercise that helps keep us fit and strong. After two months of Wing Chun classes, I still have a long way to go but I feel more alert and equipped whenever I'm in some potentially dangerous situations. Wing Chun is perfect for those who are looking for a self defense or those looking to expand their knowledge in different martial arts. It requires a lot of patience though, but it will all be worth it.

I was pregnant the first time I went there, so unfortunately most of their classes were prohibited for me, even with a doctor's statement - I understand them, though! I'm just trying to decide if I'll shift to another modality, like Contemporary Dance or Jazz. The teachers are enthusiastic and the place is nice. Actually, what I like about Jollijam - besides reminding me of Jollibee! - is that it's always full of kids and teens. I know, some people may hate it just because of this aspect. But it think it gives life to the place. It's funny to see little kids having ukulele classes or voice classes, anyway! Oh, there's also the Kung Fu group! That's the spirit. Jollijam mixes art, music, dance, fitness, martial arts...and FUN!

At the back of…read moreyour mind you might think it's lewd or immoral, but that's just your sheltered Catholic school upbringing rearing its ugly head. Now that we've got that out of the way, let's go back to pole dancing, shall we? One of the proponents of pole dancing locally is Polecats Manila, a ragtag bunch of misfits who are taking the dance scene by storm one pole at a time. It gave people looking to get fit a whole new way of exercising. Some people aren't built for yoga, running, or the gym because they get bored easily with all the repetition. With pole dancing, you get to exercise your core as well as build and tone muscles. Polecats offer numerous classes every day, each with different difficulty levels and accessories. If you still haven't gotten around to your New Year's resolution of getting fit, now's a perfectly good time as any!

Gone are the days when pole dancing is just girls in skimpy clothes (or any clothes at all) shaking their booty for men with a little bit too much time on their hands (or maybe wasn't hugged by their mothers enough growing up). These days, when you say "pole" you think of strong, beautiful women who are defying the laws of gravity, and The Polecats are a prime example of that. Polecats Manila is the exclusive studio of Polecats Manila, the first organized pole dancing group in the Philippines. Forget everything you need to know about your body and its capabilities, because one class with them will make you discover so many new things that you never thought you could do. There are classes for all types of people: women, men, young, old, those wanting something completely athletic and those looking for something a little bit sexier (striptease classes, anyone?) The studio is always vibrant with energy and happiness. But taking a class with the Polecats are not for quitters - their teachers are educated, motivated, and will push your limits. That is, after all, what pole dance is all about.

Even so, we went to Ballet and Arts Centre in Market! Market! to inquire about their ballet lessons. According to their staff, kids less than six years old must first be evaluated before they can be accepted into class. This way, the instructors would know if a child really wants to learn ballet. I appreciated this because sometimes kids just act out on impulses and when actual classes start, they just don't want to attend anymore. In effect, the money that would be spent on ballet uniform, registration fees, and trips to the classes would all go down the drain. As it turned out, my niece didn't even want to go inside the studio, let alone be evaluated. So, I guess we will just go back to Ballet and Arts Centre when she turns seven and by then I hope she can decide if ballet is really her thing. The dance studio is open from 11:00am to 7:00pm, Wednesdays to Sundays.
