I had a couple of teeth on both sides that had root canals and had been crowned almost 20-years…read moreago, that were failing and all four needed to be pulled. The choice was a bridge on both sides, which I wasn't crazy about on my rear molars, or to venture into world of implants. My dentist didn't offer them and recommended me to a specialist, Dr Mandel. Upon my first visit, Dr Mandel took x-rays, did an examination, and offered a game plan to attack it one side at a time. The one-side needed bone grafts, and he suggested tackling that first, and then onto the other side. However, this doubled the time frame before new crowns could be installed to six-months on that side. We discussed the process, and he thoroughly walked me through the entire procedure, answering my questions, and offering a consultative approach to making sure I was comfortable and had realistic expectations. While I was very nervous about what was involved and how long it would take, the decision was made to have it done right and to move forward with the procedure. Well, almost one year later and now having the new crowns installed, and I can say without a doubt it was a great decision. They look great, feel great, and certainly beat a bridge or dentures. While it was indeed a process, Dr Mandel was a total pro throughout the entire ordeal. He was extremely meticulous in every aspect of the journey, from the first examination, to being unbelievably good at everything around implants. In fact, it went so well, I decided to finally have a cosmetic dental makeover on my entire upper teeth. I ask Dr Mandel for a recommendation, and he sent me to another very professional and talented dentist. When all the 20-year crowns were removed on my top teeth, it became necessary to have two more teeth extracted, and once again it was determined by my dentist that two of my top teeth were gone and it was either a bridge or a couple more implants, so back to Dr Mandel. The difference is this time I had total confidence in Dr Mandel, and as before it went incredibly smooth. In a matter of a couple of hours, he performed two very difficult extractions, and like a mad scientist, placed the two implants. In the meantime, I have a temp on my entire upper teeth and will wait out the next 3-4 months before having the crowns installed so it's all done at the same time and I can get the best match. For anyone who may be scared or nervous about considering having implants vs dentures, bridges, or simply missing a tooth, it's not nearly as scary as it sounds. The key is to see a real pro like Dr Mandel. This dentist is incredible, and his mannerisms and skill make it clear he is truly a maestro at what he does. He instilled confidence every step of the way, performed extremely difficult procedures, and the outcome has become wonderful. In addition to these very important aspects, he was also one heck of a nice guy that literally couldn't have made it more pleasant through it all. I'm very appreciative that I found him to go through this process, and that it actually gave me the motivation and desire to tackle a full dental makeover. I can honestly say I don't think I would have jumped all in without Dr Mandel's encouragement, guidance, and reassurances along the way. I had an appointment scheduled for February 6th at 2025 at 8:20 in the morning. I woke up at 7:20am to find a text from Chen and Associates informing me that my appointment would need to be cancelled due to inclement weather causing icing. There was no serious storm just light rain in the forecast and it had been warm and mild the whole week. However, I did not think much of it and happily rescheduled for the following Monday. Unfortunately I developed an ear infection on Sunday and needed to make a urgent care visit for Monday morning. I informed Chen and Associates on Sunday at 4:00pm that I would need to cancel, significantly more notice then they gave me for my prior appointment, which they confirmed. On Thursday morning of that week I received a $50 dollar charge for a missed appointment. I was not pleased about this charge and demanded it be removed and inquired why there was no policy for a $50 credit for patients if Chen and Associates needs to cancel as that would only seem fair. They removed the charge and apologized which I would have been happy to leave it at. However Chennel Walters decided it was their mission to justify charging clients for missed appointments and not having a credit if Chen and Associates cancels. They eloquently, explained that the office had to control for "thoughtless" , they never asked me why I was canceling, cancellations from patients and that Chen and Associates would only cancel for a real reason like inclement weather which she likened to a medical emergency. She also explained that they would never try to overcharge "loyal" clients. I pointed out that the weather that day was not particularly inclement and their reason for cancelling may have also been thoughtless saying: "The inclement weather? It didn't even get below freezing temps at any point below Thursday morning and it was above freezing several hours before my appointment. In fact I'm fairly certain it was raining which Additionally it had been gorgeous all week leading up to the day. But I didn't see the need to assume the worst, I suggest the doctor do the same for people who need to "thoughtlessly" cancel appointments." Obviously left a sentence incomplete, I was at work while trying to respond to Chennel Walters lovely correspondence and made a mistake. However, I think anyone reading this could see that I was pointing out that the weather conditions made improbable justifying a cancellation on their end unlikely. Chennel snarkily informed me she couldn't respond to my statement because it was incomplete before then responding to the statement she said she couldn't respond to by saying that I didn't know the weather where all their staff lived. It was above freezing through the entire state on February 6th and had been in the high to mid 40s the entire week leading up to the appointment. Needless to say I will no longer be a patient at Chen and Associates despite being a "loyal" patient prior. I would highly recommend they use this as a learning moment for Chennel and reconsider if they are the kind of person who should be interacting with clients.

I felt comfortable throughout the process and was really happy with the care I received. Before the procedure, I was quoted my copay and paid the full amount upfront, totaling $640. About a month later, I received a bill for $2,340 for the same procedure, and none of the payment I had already made was reflected. After calling the billing department, I found out the issue was caused by an insurance filing error on their end. They submitted the claim only to my secondary insurance instead of processing it through my primary insurance first and then the secondary, as they were supposed to. I had already provided all of my insurance information before the procedure, but I provided it again and was told the issue would be corrected. Unfortunately, it has now been 8 months since the procedure and this still has not been resolved. I checked with my primary insurance and found out Aspen Dental finally submitted the claim to them in March 2026 -- six months after my procedure. However, they still have not submitted the claim to my secondary insurance as of today. I genuinely cannot think of any reasonable explanation for why it would take this many months to properly submit an insurance claim, especially when all information was provided in advance and again afterward upon request. At this point, it honestly feels like an attempt to push responsibility for a bill onto me that should have been processed correctly through insurance many months ago and after I had already paid my quoted portion upfront. While I truly appreciated Dr. Kim and the clinical care I received, the billing and insurance handling experience has been incredibly frustrating, stressful, and disappointing.

He was quickly informed over the phone that they take our insurance and the staff gave him quotes for initial X-rays, eval, and cleaning for my mom without dental insurance. The hygienist was thorough and my hubby kept commenting how his teeth felt squeaky clean and smooth for over a week! He took his old, cracked night guard for a replacement. Dr. Cho was very professional and informative in explaining the cause of the crack and recommended an affordable guard and the right thickness that'll protect his teeth. Dr. Cho also kindly taught my hubby how to safely brush his teeth to further prevent gum recession. After my husband's exemplary experience, my mom and I went in for our appt. We scheduled back to back to take turns watching my 15 month old toddler in the waiting area. We arrived early and Dr. Cho greeted us and saw my mom earlier than her appt time. My mom hasn't seen a dentist since my dad passed away 4 years ago, so she was scared. Dr. Cho's chair-side manners were superb which kept her very calm and even enthusiastic about further taking care of her teeth- she needs crowns. Dr. Cho conservatively recommended the work she needs done and before we left the office the front staff gave us quotes for her next visit. As a 7 month old pregnant mom with a toddler, I can say this office is very family friendly. Dr. Cho ordered minimal x-rays to address my worries of cavities and the staff took extra caution when taking the x-rays. The eval and cleaning was thorough and quick so laying on my back wasn't uncomfortable. There was a cute corner for my toddler to play and lots of space to walk around to enjoy her stay at the dental office while grandma's and Mom's teeth were being taken care of by Dr. Cho and his awesome staff. Now that she's familiar with the office and friendly staff, we decided to schedule our daughter's first dental appt, too. We already appreciate our new family dentist very much!

I am returning years later for a second opinion on a possible tooth replacement. While Dr. Joseph is clearly confident--with the skill to back it--he is also friendly, straightforward, and considerate of a patient's concerns. He is not cheap (or extravagant), but if I want a tough job done right, he's the guy.

I received my full set at another Nuvia and was not happy with them. They refused to fix them for…read moreme and I ended up transferring to the one at White Marsh. It was the best decision I ever made. The staff at this location is fantastic. I am on year two and I finally received the teeth that I paid $45k for. The minute you walk in the staff is kind and professional. They really make you feel at home I met Dr Pak and we talked about the problems I was having including a chunk of gum that fell off near my one implant. The gums also flaked off within the month of getting them but was told it was "normal". It was not. I also could not floss the top front as the previous Dr at the Chevy Chase office made the top with too much material and literally crushed the bone under my nose installing them so tight you couldn't get floss in. I believe he is no longer there and I hope he isn't practicing any longer. Dr Pak also addressed things that I had no idea could be corrected. It was a relief to discuss the problems and be told they can be fixed. Dr Pak and his knowledgeable assistant Kenya were understanding and could see how messed up these arches were. They listened and worked with me every step of the way and did a complete hard reline which was redoing the gums top and bottom. I was actually dreading when they were to be reinstalled because the other office took 3 hours and many pain shots to get them in due to not measuring correctly. Dr Pak and Kenya took an hour and absolutely no pain whatsoever to give me the teeth I had hoped for from the beginning. Dr Pak and Kenya gave me my happy Smile Reveal two years after I got my teeth! They fit so well they felt like my own teeth. And they look and feel amazing. I also cannot say enough about Johnny the technician in the lab that in my opinion performed a miracle. I went from shotty ill made arches to arches I expected to get from Nuvia at the beginning. He is a master in that lab and I am thankful he redid mine. Nuvia implants are the way to go as you get your permanent teeth 24 hours after they install implants. You can eat anything you can cut with a plastic fork for the 4 months of healing. I had researched different companies and Nuvia won by far. You just have to find the ones that get great reviews. You cannot lose with this location. I am thankful I was able to transfer to this location and work with such wonderful, and knowledgeable professionals. No that's not what it's called, but I don't remember its technical name. It's like a Dental 3D printing machine that makes teeth (an easy description, but in a nutshell). Can you believe that?! Crazy. Dr. Dezwirek and the whole team were on point. Of course, as a new patient I had to take Xrays. When Dr. Dez examined me he had already reviewed my XRays. And when Cindy cleaned my teeth I realized she too had reviewed my XRays. They were all on it. What's that saying, you never get a second chance to leave a first impression; they left a good one.

My husband has been a long-time patient, and I joined as a patient when we married two years ago, assuming he was a good dentist who would never compromise my efforts to be as healthy as possible since he is also a vegan. That has turned out to be a very poor assumption. I am giving him the lowest possible rating because of a shocking recent experience. I have some areas of gum recession that cause inflammation to flare up from trapped bacteria. Dr. Platt recommended that I have these areas below the gum line "bonded" with a resin-type material. I took his advice on two such areas late in December 2012, and the result was fantastic. However, a similar gum inflammation flared up a week later on an adjacent molar with a cap and root canal, so I made another appointment to get it fixed the same way on 1/2/2013. This simple procedure turned out to be a big mistake with long-term health ramifications for me. Instead of doing the same resin bonding he did on the other two, WITHOUT INFORMING ME, he decided to use another type filling which a subsequent dentist (with a 100% approval rating on HealthGrade.com) told me contained MERCURY. At the time, Dr. Platt just told me he used "a different material" that would bond better to the cap. You can imagine how upset I was when I learned what it contained because I take great care to avoid mercury in my mouth and in my diet. I even take an ultra-purified Omega-3 fish oil supplement to avoid that highly toxic metal! Because the inflammation in my gum did not subside quickly as it did the other times after this same procedure, I returned to his office on 1/11/2013 as he had recommended. He examined the tooth again with his new filling and then told me that I had decay under the cap - and probably needed that root canal redone. In fact, he told me that according to his notes, he had told me before he did this filling that I had decay under that cap and that I had refused his recommendation to replace it. I could not believe my ears - or my eyes when he showed me his notes. This man cannot communicate effectively! Nine days earlier, he had x-rayed that tooth and said he found no decay or problem with the root canal. He did say, however, that replacing the cap would be a permanent solution to the gum recession problem on that tooth - and that sometimes there could be a little decay under the cap so he usually recommends replacing it. Yet, he did not strongly recommend it, and he certainly did not say there was decay under the cap! To me, decay is like cancer. I don't play around when I have it. He gave me two options, one more permanent (and much more costly) than the other. I simply chose the less expensive filling because it had worked so well on two other teeth with the same problem. Had he told me he strongly suspected decay, I would have had him investigate it further and possibly replace that cap. He did not. In fact, the problem turned out to be not some hidden decay or inflamed root, but simply that big pieces of his new special material filling had fallen out, creating more gaps to trap bacteria as before and causing the inflammation to return. Next business day, I went to Dr. Saccoh in Joppa to get a second opinion and learned what was really going on. Fortunately, that same night, the rest of that dark, toxic filling fell out (after just 2 weeks), and Dr. S cleaned the rest of it out pretty easily and replaced it with a resin filling - for $30 less. He did an AP x-ray to be sure the root tips were not infected, he was not concerned at all about there being any hidden decay, and he did a resin filling. Even though Dr. Platt later left word for me that he had used a glass ionomer type filler, it was very, very dark and seemed to have a LOT of silver metal mixed into it. D. S said he was certain it contained MERCURY, and he disposed of it accordingly as it is considered extremely Hazardous Material. Unfortunately for me, I swallowed probably half of that filling, which bonded terribly to the cap, because I never even suspected it was my new filling! I thought it was just pieces of walnut shells I was eating several times that week. This could seriously affect my health one day. So, I no longer have any trust in Dr. Platt. He communicates very poorly. His preferred filling material did not even last a month, and he was not forthcoming with me when I asked about the filling material he used. Furthermore, if I had used the referral he gave me, I would have wasted $110 to be seen by an endodontist unnecessarily. Instead, I received a refund from Dr. Platt and sought a 2nd opinion from a highly rated dentist - who is now my and my husband's new dentist. Please just beware!
