As far as major breweries restaurant and brewpubs go, this is definitely one of the best ones I've…read moreseen. First of all, there is an eclectic and yet authentic decoration, leveraging both historic features, traditional Badisch decorations, and brewery equipment. It is truly remarkable. Second, the service is great. Yes, it is high-volume, but the staff keeps you in their attention while flying around and serving over a hundred of people in at least four different rooms. Great service. Finally, there is food and drinks. Even if we put aside the beers - which are absolutely great, especially when coming out of the tap - there is a diversity of dishes for everyone's taste, and they are well-made. I went with a shinkenmedallion, while my partner went for a vegetarian pasta option. We were both extremely satisfied with what we had, and were happy to devour it and then follow up with a black forest cake and coffee. Overall, if you are around, you definitely should stop!

The gasthof and restaurant are on the grounds of the Rothaus brewery, which produces some fine beers, of which the Pils (aka Tannen Zapfle) is probably my favorite. As an aside, I sampled some of their alcoholfrei versions, and if you're driving but still want a beer, I'm not sure you're going to get a better alcohol-free beer than theirs. After you eat, the brewery store is right next door, so you can grab whatever beers or merchandise you want. When it comes to the food in the brauereigasthof, it was some of the finest traditional brauhaus food I've had in Germany. The Rothauser Bierbraten was a perfectly-cooked pork roast, and the gravy nearly had me licking my plate. My brother hadn't had a schnitzel yet on his visit, so he went with the Paniertes Schweineschnitzel, which was massive as well as tender and delicious. We also greatly appreciated the salad buffet, which lets you put together a plate of salad and pickled/dressed vegetables to go with the heavy and rich meal options. Service was great as well, and they have English menus (although only the German version is posted online). They do get busy though, so consider making reservations or eating early.
