Well where to begin. First so much missing from menu since reopening, second, no waitresses, thirdly kiosk orders were not made to was was ordered. Hamburgers much smaller now. No longer able to get a bowel of chili. I guess they don't want to give customers what they want. I guess two coups would be just under 8 dollars and for a 3 dollar can of chili that's not enough profit margin. Dining is use to be friendly, and an experience that kids loved. We were so excited to see the banner out front loudly proclaiming "DINING ROOM OPEN", only to be disappointed when we entered. Just a touchscreen with signs saying "order here". There is no one to greet you or seat you. God forbid you have any questions. There isn't even a "help me" button on the touchscreen. You just have to wait for a worker (who is busy doing another job) to notice you, and maybe they will admit they know how to use the machine. Drinks are also self-serve and you pick up your order from a counter after they yell your number. Good news is, the shakes are still 1/2 price during happy hour (2-4pm) and the burgers and fries taste the same. Except the top buns of our burgers were not warm. The food was good, and that's about it. The staff was very unfriendly, unhelpful, and basically rude. Especially the short little hispanic dude. He didn't help us when we walked in, then asked if we were there to eat. Duh, what else would we be there for? Then he just points to the kiosk that we were supposed to order our food at. This is new. Normally there is an employee there to take our orders. He should have greeted us and directed us in a better manner than this. Then you have to pick up your own food, get your own drink, condiments, napkins, straws, and clean up after yourself. Yet when paying for your order, you're expected to leave a tip, which we did, 20% and we want a refund because what the heck is it for if they do nothing to earn it?!?! I'm not paying the employees salaries for steak n shake! Especially for crappy and non existent service! To top it all off, he comes up to our table and basically tells us we have to leave because they're about to close!!! It's raining so we stand just inside the door for a minute, he sticks his head out and says we can't stand there either, we have to go. Unbelievable!!! If you've been to one Steak n Shake, you've pretty much been to them all. Same menu; same dining room. We don't go very often but we went yesterday with a friend and her kids (and our kid), so we had six in our party. We were seated quickly enough, by a hostess who wasn't in the best of moods. Our server, who also seemed to be having a bad day, took our orders and came back quickly fairly quickly with our drinks. One was for a toddler so she said she'd be back with a kid's cup with a lid. About ten minutes later, the glass was spilled everywhere (kid's do that) and THEN she came back with a lid. She did help clean it up, but left the table wet and sticky. Our food came out after another 15-20 minutes. It was all tasty and fine; it just took too long to get it. I did order my sandwich with no cheese, which came out with cheese. She took it back, begrudgingly, to fix it, by when they brought it back to me, it was obvious that they just scraped the cheese off. Yuck. At the end, we decided to get milkshakes for every one. I purchased two eggnog milkshakes (which were pretty great!) and a chocolate kid's shake for the kid. The kid asked that it not have the whipped cream or cherry on top. They brought it out with everything on top, again she had to take it back to fix it (in a huff). Once again, when they brought out the "fixed" shake, they clearly just scraped the whipped cream off the top of the shake, and left the lid covered in it as well as cream all over the sides of the cup. Gross, man! I checked out and paid my bill at the counter. Man, everyone was so moody there! Even the cashier was full of sass (and not in a good way.) Maybe it was me! Maybe I, or someone in our party, was giving off a bad vibe or something but no employee at this restaurant was even slightly friendly! Hum, I don't really know, why the rating is so bad here! We went here tonite with my host family that we met and I got to see them after 8 years again! Yeaaaahhh! So we checked in here and ordered. I had a Philly Burger with Cajun fries. The burger came with fried green bell peppers and onions and as a double platter with 2 different kinds of cheese! The fries were not really Cajun - well at least not to what I would call "Cajun" it had just a little spice on it - oh well, but They were still nice. The burger I thought was very good as I am used to at Steak and Shake. The service was also good although she was a little bit clumsy but tried the best she could to make us a pleasant evening. Compared to the other Steak n Shake in town, this one is cleaner and in a more safe locale. I am partial to their Three-Way (spaghetti topped with chili & cheese). Their shakes are yum as a meal all on their own and you can't beat afternoon happy hour half price. That makes the specialty shake $2. Their burgers are nothing to crow about. This place has a fun 60's decor in red, white, and black and is a great casual meeting place to conduct business or pleasure in a quiet private environment! However, on my last visit by drive-thru, it was difficult to hear them through the speakers. I was shocked to pay $6 for a small shake and 6 small soggy onion rings. They insisted. The "small" drink was waaay too large. They took my $20 but didn't have ones and went "looking". A woman cleared out a wad of bills under the till--she & the clerk "played" with the money--in front of the customers. I got the impression this place has gone downhill and up in price. May 2013 visit. Worlds worst French fries--greasy and shoestring thin. Hot dog tastes terrible-greasy inside. Service was decent at an off hour. They don't listen well to instructions. "No cherry" means come with cherry. "Add relish" means add onion, etc. I can't up the ratings from 2 stars based on my last two visits in 2013. March 2017. Decided to stop at Steak N Shake Wed about 8:30 pm only a few people eating. Waitress gave us a table that had NOT been wiped off. So we move to another now a different waitress who while taking our order says they are out of Lettuce, I explained the publix down the street has Lettuce she laughed. We order and get our food -small amount of COLD fries with our bare burger. Never saw the waitress again, so we go counter after waiting 20 minute for the check and explain we had no check. Do not order the "Prime" burger here, it is a $8.99 bait and switch rip off. My mom ordered it and got a double mushroom and Swiss burger. How do I know? When she complained she didn't get a double, after 3 waitresses and a manager concluded she only got one burger patty, they brought her out the same burger. I can't believe how low this place is rated. I go here often and it always taste super fresh and they never messed up my order.

When my family and I entered the restaurant there was already a party waiting and several empty messy tables. We waited for at least 20 minutes when another family came in and the empty tables were still a mess. It was about another 5 minutes before anyone began to clean off tables. Once seated, the waitress was courteous and took our order right way. After our orders were taken it took about 10 minutes to receive our drinks, which were 3 kid glasses of water, 1 adult water, and 1 adult coke. It took much longer to receive our 4 shakes. We were disappointed to find out that extra amount of shake that used to come on the side was no longer served. After a long wait, our food order finally arrived. I had ordered a premium burger which was nearly twice as much as a regular burger, but I had received half as many fries than my husband who did order a regular burger. We were also disappointed in the size of our burgers, they were no bigger than a McDonald's cheeseburger. It was laughable to see a steak knife sticking out of such a small burger. The Premium burger was not worth the extra in cost, as the taste was lackluster. Our food was also lukewarm. Apparently, this Steak n' Shake didn't provide refills on colas because instead of getting a refill for my husband's coke the waitress just took the cup and never came back. Ordered just a normal steak burger and fries through the drive thru. Waited at the window for about 3 minutes before any even came to it. I watched as the girls inside just laughed and talked with each other. Finally someone came to the window and told me to pull to the stop sign. Which makes no since as no one was behind me.. and if there were.. they wouldnt be able to go around since the drive thru is surrounded by curbs. After another 5 or so minutes of sitting there someone finally brought my food out. The burger was rare in thr middle and covered in grease.. the fries are awful with no flavor. Our server was excellent. Becky was very pleasant and attentive. We made no complaints but the double cheeseburger I ordered was mediocre warm as were the fries. As we sat at the counter we observed a green tray that wasn't sanitary sit just beside the open cooler that stores the meat for cooking. As the worker unloaded the bread from the other green trays that had been sitting on the floor he stacked them over the open cooler. I was shocked. Makes you wonder what other unsanitary practices take place where you don't see. I have never had a problem when I eat inside the actual restaurant. The problem is the drive-thru. It takes 10 centuries to get anything from the drive-thru. This one time I ordered 3 shakes for my family and it literally took 35 min. I know because I timed them. My family and I always joke about how long it takes so this last time I actually timed them. We had an absolutely awful experience. I went with a group of 7 at 1am, there was one other group in the entire restaurant. I watched our waitress laugh and talk with the workers in the back.
