I took a client here regularly…read morefor quite some time in the course of my work and was continually impressed by the work and care that went into everything they did. My client had suffered a brain injury and was trying to reorganise his life, with our help, back to some sort of normality. One of the things he took a fancy to was riding. Over the course of a few months, the staff here had him quite knowledgeable about horses and their care, and riding as though he'd been doing it for years. There are a lot of animals on site, so the trainers can always pick a suitable horse for any individual. Being in Croft, there are plenty of quiet roads and paths around and they also have a training area very close to the main buildings. The rates are very reasonable - I even thought of trying it myself, but the thought of 14 stones of lumpy motorbiker sitting on a horse didn't conjure up a very nice picture! While there, I did see an enormous variety of people coming and going - it's not all young and teenaged girls, you know!

Carrington Riding Centre is set in greenbelt land and is surrounded by 450 acres of lush countryside. It is the perfect place for urbanites to escape the rat race and is located just off the motorway and very easy to get to. It caters for children and adults of all levels of skill and experience and provides reasonably priced lessons with enthusiastic riding teachers. I would advise beginners to join the group lessons which are good fun and cost approximately £10 although you advance more quickly with the more expensive private lessons which are £21.50 for an hours tuition for adults and £17 for children. The indoor school is large and riders can be watched over by spectators in the small cafe. Serious riders can arrange private lessons with the professionals: Ryan and Janis but for most of us, Carrington Riding Centre provides fun lessons with good tempered horses, especially chosen for their gentle natures. If you don't have proper riding gear and there isn't a jodphur in sight in your wardrobe, equipment can be purchased from the onsite shop, but until you have established that this is something you wish to progress with, then leggings and wellies will suffice and hats can be borrowed free of charge. The parent and child classes on Sunday afternoons cost only £10 per person for half an hour and they are a great way to spend time with the little ones. Pony parties are also held for budding jockeys who are treated to a 30 minute group lesson followed by interraction with the horses in the stables and party food in the cafe which can be brought in by parents or provided for a small charge by staff. As I am classed as a returner, this riding centre has reminded me just how enjoyable riding can be and it has reawakened my love of horses. The staff here are friendly and encouraging and treat everyone equally whether you are a beginner, returner or a seasoned rider. Grand National here I come!

the riding school is well run and the ponies are well looked after, some of the ponies are more…read moresuitable for experienced riders as do have strong temprements, myself and my daughter ride there and we have a fabulous new instructor called Angie who takes each rider individually and gives them confidence and works on all there little faults to bring them up to a good standard, since my daughter has had her she has developed massively and loves going to her lessons, I can't recommend them enough.

Whilst not all deliveries go to plan and sometimes there are problems, I have to say that the way y query was handled was impressive! Haydock Park is a brilliant racecourse in the North West which has racing all year round. I like…read morethis racecourse because unlike many others they do cater for a wide range of people (including me)! I've been to a couple of racecourses when you feel like you have to wear a hat - notably Aintree. I'm not a big fan of that. There are private hospitality suites and restaurants available for customers to relax before or during the racing. Rooms are available for small parties or huge parties up to 400 people. It's a great day or evening out even if you're not a gambler, the atmosphere is really fun and chilled out.

However a day at the races doesn't have to be about gambling, it is a fantastic day out. If you are on the right side of the weather Haydock is a perfect way to spend a Saturday with some mates. Housed in an accommodating 127 acres of lush parkland, Haydock Park Racecourse is ideal for any form of events which you may actually witness during your visit.The fully licensed bars are sure to keep one occupied during the merrymaking process as you enjoy the spectacle of a race bets or no bets. You might be able to crash a wedding as the venue holds up to 500 guests for banquets, balls, and wedding reception dinners. I hear they're even licensed for civil ceremonies. There are also a plethora of non race day events that you might want to put in the diary. JLS are playing there for those of you who are 13 and of the female persuasion. Other events include wedding fairs books fairs so on and so forth. I however would recommend you get yourself down for a day at one of the race days with a group of friends as it will be cheaper per head. I went with a few mates and we had a blast.... so get yourself down for a galloping good time.
