Outside. Road sign.

The Georgia website GAFollowers posted an article naming Statesboro Mall the worst mall in Georgia: http://www.gafollowers.com/10-worst-malls-georgia/. Really? Is it that bad? I was in Statesboro, a small city a little over 3 hours east of Atlanta and about an hour west of Savannah, recently and had the opportunity to find out for myself. If this is the worst mall in Georgia, then Georgia is doing pretty well. I've seen malls in metro Atlanta that are in worse condition than this one. This mall is actually in good shape. It was clean, felt safe, and appeared to be decently maintained from signage to carpeting to lighting. Where this mall falls short are its size and selection of retailers. Then again, this mall is located out in the country. In fact, folks from the surrounding rural areas come here to go to the mall. Statesboro Mall is small. That's why it's nicknamed "The Small." According to the mall's official website (https://www.statesboromall.com/), it encompasses 262,000 square feet of space. One story. To give you a better idea, you can stand in the center of the mall, look 360 degrees around you, and see the entire thing. Here's a video I recorded of just that: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/statesboro-mall-statesboro?select_video=m2FpV3whGr1RZW6w50PTkg. When we pulled up to the stoplight at Brannen and Lovett (on the backside of the mall), I pointed at JCPenney and asked my girlfriend, a Statesboro native, "Is *that* the mall?" She nodded and said, "Yep, that's the mall." I couldn't believe how small it was. And I thought the mall in my hometown was small (RIP, Oak Hollow Mall in High Point, North Carolina: 1995-2017). Statesboro Mall is more like a hybrid shopping mall and shopping center. The enclosed indoor portion of the mall, what one would traditionally consider a shopping mall, is anchored by Belk, JCPenney, and a Bealls Outlet (first time I've heard of Bealls, a department store chain based out of Florida). The most notable or recognizable stores/brands inside included rue21, The Children's Place, Hallmark, Bath & Body Works, Kay Jewelers, and GNC. That's it. There's a food court, but it's tiny with only three or four dining options. Some of them, such as Los Angeles Mexican Grill, looked like cheap knockoff joints. The center of the mall currently showcases the Easter Bunny. Around the holidays, I think Santa Claus makes an appearance. Outside, which is more like a strip mall or shopping plaza, there are more stores. Maybe Statesboro Mall decided to officially include these businesses in the mall directory to make the mall seem bigger than it really is. Outdoor retailers include a Sears Hometown Store (formerly Sears Dealer Store, smaller than a full-sized Sears), GameStop, Carmike movie theater, BI-LO grocery store, and Starbucks. The Carmike and Starbucks are located in their own separate standalone buildings. The good news is if you can't find what you're looking for at this mall, there's a Walmart Supercenter right next door. Compared to other American suburban shopping malls I've been to, Yelp's two-star descriptor, "Meh. I've experienced better.," sums up my impression of Statesboro Mall. It's not terrible and for a small city like Statesboro and the surrounding rural counties, it's certainly better than nothing.

Cheeky Bliss is the best place to shop in Statesboro! I usually go in on my lunch break (I can't…read morehelp it) to browse around. It seems like every day they have something new. I love how they do bra fittings for free and my kids love their Simply Southern sale that is ongoing! They have little trinkets, shoes, lingerie, planners, jewelry, makeup, youth clothing and even some stuff for toddlers! If you are shopping for someone and you aren't sure what to get them ---this is the place to go!! The employees there are so helpful and will go out of their way to help you find the perfect gift. I of course treat myself every time I'm in there as well. I also would like to add that I normally do not review places unless I am unsatisfied but Cheeky seems to have a lot of new faces in there and they have really took customer service to the next level! It's like shopping with a friend when you shop at Cheeky!

Beware when ordering online. They do not offer return store credit or exchange only. The supposed…read moregolas i ordered in my normal size at 2 sizes too large. And when i went on to exchange for smaller size there are no sizes in ANY shoe options for me to exchange. When reaching out to the owner for clarification or assistance with receiving a comparable product they were no help and told me that their products were not dupes even though mine is 2 sizes too large. So i was scammed out of over $100 with no option for replacement or exchange and left with a counterfeit gola that says it's one size and is really 2 sizes larger. I was burned and want to help others from this happening. I was trying to shop from a small Business instead of a larger store and it completely back fired on me!!

Dunham's Sports is a relatively new addition to the Statesboro shopping scene. It opened in…read moreNovember 2016 in the Kmart shopping center across the street from Statesboro Mall. For a small city like Statesboro, this is a nice sporting goods store to have. It's cut in the mold of a big box retailer like Dick's Sporting Goods though not as nice and there's more of a focus on guns and outdoor, hunting, fishing, and camping gear. As a Georgia Tech alum, I was surprised to see they actually carry a decent amount of Georgia Tech apparel. In the state of Georgia, outside of metro Atlanta, Georgia Tech apparel can be hard to find. Not here. Of course, they have apparel for UGA as well plus Atlanta's pro sports teams (Braves, Falcons, and Hawks). As a golfer, I was impressed with the golf department. They call theirs the "Fairway Center." From apparel to equipment, they carry several major brands including Callaway, Nike, TaylorMade, Titleist, and Under Armour. They have everything you need to play including modern styles on shoes and apparel and some current club models, particularly when it comes to drivers and putters. They also carry clubs/sets for junior/kid golfers. If you're a college sports fan, they have golf bags with various school logos on them (not surprisingly, they are mainly SEC schools). There's a simulator where you can hit balls and try different clubs out. The staff can do club fittings and they can re-grip clubs too. When I visited, the most popular section of the store was the gun section. They stock a wide variety of rifles and handguns, ammo, and accessories (e.g. sights). If you're looking for a secure place to store your gun collection, they sell safes in various sizes. Most of the safes are big so they can accommodate rifles. For the ladies, they offer concealed carry purses in a variety of "fashionable" styles. I had fun checking out all the camo gear. Currently, this is one of three Dunham's locations in Georgia. The other two are in LaGrange and Rome. This is a nationwide chain with over 230 locations. Most of the stores are located in smaller cities like Statesboro.

I gave them my weapons carry license and evidently they don't take them even though you use it everywhere else to purchase. I ask why and they said it's policy. Said I needed my license, which I didn't have because I didn't drive. So violating my rights that I was given by the permit. The individual helping me was on his cell phone the whole time messaging and reading social media (yes I could see his phone). Absolutely worst experience, I did contact corporate by email and phone, still waiting on a reply. More to follow.
