Jersey City Parking Authority - Changed locations to Bergen-Lafayette

Important updates: 1. The location of this office moved from…read moreThe Heights to Bergen-Lafayette (356 Martin Luther King Dr 2nd floor). This is the hood. So, if you feel uncomfortable about that in any way, I suggest trying to do what you need to do online. 2. From my experience living in this neighborhood, you will have a hard time finding parking. 3. The parking permit system changed to being online and, according to a representative at this office, you do not get stickers anymore and it is all "in the system." So, let's hope the meter maids are aware of this. 4. Online parking permits do not have a renewal option, so wait to purchase the permit on the expiration date or you will lose days! 5. There is now a $3 surcharge to order parking permits online. The following is from my original visit to the former Union City location: I've visited the parking permit office here twice and both times the wait was short and the employees were nice. Normally I am in and out in under 20 minutes and the process is easy. I filled out a simple form, update some stuff on the computer, make a copy of my info, print the permit, and all was done. It takes no more than 10 minutes to complete and get your permit in hand once you engage with a representative. The establishment is clean with a few seats in the waiting area. The only task here is finding parking in the area since it is a busy metered street. It is best to park along the avenues to avoid the meters. Overall a positive experience. PS: For everyone who keeps wondering what days the street cleaning is suspended, check their official pages on Twitter for updates @jcparking or @jc_gov www.twitter.com/jcparking www.twitter.com/jc_gov And their direct phone number is 201-547-5538

Academy Parking Lot - The lot during peak weekday hours

    Academy Parking Lot

    (3 reviews)

Academy Parking Lot is an outdoor parking lot and one of the cheapest parking options near Journal…read moreSquare. They currently charge $12 for the day and only accept cash, and there are no receipts (in case you need to expense the cost). It is a good option if you want to save a buck - but not if you care about security or the well-being of your car. Allow me to elaborate: I've used this parking lot a handful of times, and I now live nearby. The attendant and owner are very nice, but I wouldn't recommend this lot if you care about your car. First, understand that the car lot is small, and only attended from about 6 AM to about 6 PM. Outside of those times, throughout the entire night, there is NO SECURITY. The lot has no security guards, the security cameras are not monitored, and the gates are left open ALL NIGHT. Cars left overnight here are regularly vandalized or broken into, particularly during the after-hours when the parking attendant leaves. And, on the occasions when I have seen the car owners confront the attendant, they always left with unsatisfied demeanors after long arguments. So don't expect any compensation or resolution if you are a victim. During the day when the lot is busy, cars are packed in extremely tightly, which leaves little room for error. So don't be surprised if your car has a few new scratches or door dents after leaving. So if you do park here, it is at your own risk. The attendant is very nice but is NOT on your side to remedy problems if something bad happens. The attendant/owner is fully aware that the cars in this lot are being broken into, damaged, and vandalized regularly, and does not take any measures to prevent it. Also, note that the attendant is now actively booting vehicles instead of just towing. It seems like they are holding cars for ransom, possibly to pocket the money as opposed to the tow truck company. So don't try to be slick, sneak in, and avoid paying. If you do, then you will end up stranded (check out my attached photo to see some folks who had to wait hours for a resolution). Here's a piece of advice, typically you need a special license to be able to boot cars, even on private property. So, if your car gets booted here, ask to see their license. If they don't have one, then it's illegal for them to boot your car and you may have a legal claim against them. This is truly one of those situations where you get what you pay for.

UPDATED ON 9/12/2014…read more... I went against my better judgement and I parked here just because it is $8 for the whole day. I am starting my new semester and I will no loner park here. The owner / attendant completely ruins cars. I parked here once again and I have been side swept. I have damages to my brand new car because of this guy. He refuses to acknowledge that this happened because of him. If something happens to your car he will tell you that YOU DID IT. BTW, he does have a security camera system although he says he does not. You will no longer will receive my business not the business of my classmates or friends. This place SUCKS!
