Everything is bigger in Texas ...including the power failures during historic winters. Not a fan.

I had to get permission to go in to work late so I could have it not be delinquent. I can't stand more than a few minutes without intense burning and pain during bad flares, and I'm in a horrible one now since my trunk fell on me and I had already gotten shoulder injections a few weeks prior. My back problems have been present for over 20 years, and I have fibro, AS, and autoimmune issues as well. Anyway, I usually go to the one on Chimney Rock, but that one can take a really long time. If I was off I wouldn't mind so much. The reviews for Griggs as well as calling and speaking with a very nice woman pointed me in the direction of this location. I planned on getting here at 7:30, but rain and life had me moving slow. I arrived in the parking lot after 8:20 and was out by 9:07. That's with me shuffling around my bags because of the rain and trying to protect my paperwork before actually going in. I was even able to get 2 placards, which I was about to ask for as mine looked like who did it and what for after 4 years of actual use. Faded to nothing and taped together in 2 places. I just turned 42 and work full time in addition to having nieces and nephews. My placard is always moving, and I drive my brother's vehicles since I can't easily move the car seats with my musculoskeletal and pain issues. The actual time from waiting in my seat to the desk and out the door was maybe 10-15 minutes. The only suggestion I have is the sign in sheet for the handicapped like the Chimney Rock location has so we don't have to stand in line and wait to check in at the desk for a number. Thankfully the line was short and I spoke with a lovely woman while waiting. However I had brought extra items for the wait(as I've had to wait hours in the past), my chair pillow, umbrella, iPad, and my bag was heavier than usual. Standing was extremely painful. It's not the same as standing with nothing in hand. There were chairs against the wall, but I did not want to risk losing my place in line. Outside of that it was a great experience. I'll be coming to this location for my needs from now on even though it's a bit further from home.

I went through the website, and figured out my forms ahead of time, filled them out and printed them. I had some questions and emailed them ahead of time, they answered within two business days. Very good service. The place is located in the palm center. A rather old, strip, but a big parking lot. A refurb wouldn't hurt anyone. The tax assessors office is small corner adjacent to the courthouse. Make sure you go in the right door, and wait in the appropriate spot, or they will get at you. Already seated in the waiting room. I walked up to the desk, provided my paperwork, and she was very happy that I had already had it filled out and was ready to go. Gave me a ticket and even though I had just walked in, I was called up to a desk within 2 minutes and was done in 5 minutes. Keep in mind I came 20 minutes early and they still saw me early and I was out before my original time had passed. Excellent service! Do as much as you can to get the things done ahead of time, and you will not have to wait, and it will be a much easier and more pleasant experience for you.

As a city swelling with pride and full of grit, Houston has the distinction of being many things to…read moremany people, including names such as: H-Town, The Hou, Space City, Clutch City, and Bayou City. But for me, it's called "home." For years, Houston was a perpetual jaunt for my fix of Mexican, Vietnamese, BBQ, and occasional Tex-Mex excursions. Much like my previous long-term stays, I never imagined I'd be living here. In many ways, it's similar to my surroundings out east, with a slight change in demographics, a lot more road to cover, but never a dull day. And really, there's so much more: :: It is home to one of the most diverse populations on the planet. The full spectrum of human races exists here, and with that comes heritage festivals, ethnic enclaves, 145 languages galore, and a cornucopia of ethnic cuisines. :: This is also the home of one of the largest Vietnamese communities in the world. Vietnamese celebrities, endless regional Viet foods, and cultural festivals are a fabric of local society. :: Houston hosts the world's largest livestock and rodeo event, aka the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which draws in millions of people annually. :: It is the largest city in Texas and the 4th largest in the country. In less than a decade, it'll likely be the 3rd largest. :: The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world. 100,000 medical professionals ensure that the city has some of the country's best healthcare. :: The Port of Houston is one of the busiest ports, handling billions of dollars in international trade every year. :: The Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest in the country, with over 65,000 pieces of artwork from all over the world. Additionally, the Museum District has a number of museums that make this one of the most culture-friendly cities in the country. :: Everything is bigger in Texas? That especially applies to Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark, which, at 80K sq. ft., is the largest indoor waterpark. :: Gas is so inexpensive that $3 is considered a lot. :: It is considered the "Energy Capital" of the world, as a huge hub for the global energy industry, with many oil and gas companies calling Houston home. :: Houston is often credited with the creation of Tex-Mex cuisine, one of America's first fusion cuisines. :: It is also home to NASA's Johnson Space Center, the control center for U.S. spaceflight missions, and the birthplace of the Apollo moon landings, which earned the city the official nickname of "Space City." :: Houston is so large that there are cities within Houston, as well as cities around it. "Houston is an hour from Houston." No city is perfect, and Houston is far from the exception. Aggressive driving means red-light running and non-stop speeding. Potholes are a dime a dozen, with oppressive summer weather and an absurd hub for bugs. Sidewalks mysteriously end in grass, public transit is an oxymoron, and walkability is non-existent. Hurricanes, flooding, and freezes are commonplace, as is fragile infrastructure where electricity and power aren't always guaranteed. IAH, property taxes, and energy bills are things on every Houstonian's naughty list. However, things are looking bright. The emergence of tech, (sort of) affordable living, a budding global trade hub, and a growing talent pool of people coming from other parts of the world is changing the landscape. Year-round warm weather, state-free income taxes, and a vibrant food culture are making Houston less of an afterthought and a worthy destination for all. And that's review #5000.

I got my third jury summons since moving here five years ago. At my first summons, I met someone in…read morethe exact same situation I'm in now. So apparently I'm not the only one this system seems to keep pulling on a rotation. Meanwhile, I've been filing written complaints to Houston METRO about not being able to reliably get on and off buses; and I've been sending near-monthly complaints to USPS since 2021 about ongoing mail delivery issues I've been having here in Houston (including a few notarized annual complaints to the USPS Postmaster in DC and the USPS OIG). The contrast is hard to ignore. The jury system can consistently track me and a few others down - out of millions of Houston residents - for jury service, but no one seems able to identify what's causing these persistent mail and public transit problems. If the causes had been identified, they'd at least be on their way to being solved, right? Houston needs to examine their definitions of public service and civic participation then re-align them to established U.S. norms. It was a tacky ask to expect me to attend jury service even once. Seriously, a day doesn't go by that I don't thank the heavens that distance wasn't a factor in my grandfather's 1940s migration from East Texas WITH a wife and kids. He made the right call leaving the state entirely instead of considering a move down here; and the other side of my family made the right call staying put in the DFW. There simply isn't enough to boast about regarding Houston to downplay this. Houston is just NOT it and needs to be ashamed of itself.

First: the waiters and…read morehotel staff are not as well trained as they should be and the beds defiantly need some additional times through the washing machine (women's work). This particular hotel seems to think I needed a roommate, and that bunkbeds are awesome (they are not), very squeaky and annoying. Second: the food, I ordered taco's and they brought me a peanut butter sandwich. I tried to send it back and the waiter was defiantly not trained in customer service. He tossed my peasant sandwich on the floor and told me to deal with it. I asked to speak to the manager, and he said......sure inmate.....wait right here. I waited......he never came. I am wondering if he was being sarcastic ? I watched as ants ate my supposed to be a taco, peanut butter sandwich. I'm defiantly not leaving a tip for these guys. Third: the roommate is very weird. He was drunk (fun) when he arrived and now he's sober (boring). I asked him where he got the beer but, he won't tell me, I think I must be a secret password at this establishment. I am considering tickling him until he tells me, or craps his pants. Fourth: These clothes that they provide are not up to my standards. First on all, who wears orange? This goes with nothing that I own, and does nothing for my attractiveness. No lady is going to see me in this outfit and go.....OOOOOH MY.......That handsome man looks so good in CARROT !!!

After the impact, I was disoriented and trying to process what had just happened. When officers arrived, I did not feel treated with basic compassion or fairness as the other driver. Needless to say, there was two different races. The difference in how I was approached compared to the other driver was clear and difficult to ignore. In a moment where I needed understanding and care, I instead felt judged and dismissed. I was hit from behind and disoriented. No medical care at all, but constant grilling from questions and field sobriety test. I saw the vehicle coming up and it happened so fast, when I was hit I blacked out. I was hit from behind....at a high speed. This experience changed how I view law enforcement. I had always believed in the system and the difficult work officers do, but this situation left me feeling that empathy, integrity, and objective judgment were missing when it mattered most. I am not writing this out of anger, but out of a need to be heard. I am going through serious injuries and will possibly need more treatments. After this incident I am not the same person at all. No one in a vulnerable situation should walk away feeling the way I did and do each day after this incident. I truly hope this leads to reflection, accountability, and better treatment of others in the future.
