What a gem! I've traveled to Warsaw, Poland all my life, numerous times a year! It truly is a…read moresecret... The interior is mystical, with the dining rooms in the brick-walled basement. Very old-style and homey Polish interior: flower-printed table cloths, candles, wooden chairs, and very majestic, castle-inspired furniture and decor. Our waiter was more than just polite. He never turned his back at us when leaving our table, but instead backed away slowly and out, which made us feel royal. At start, he served us an appetizer on the house: a Polish traditional food called "szmalec." We then ordered a couple traditional Polish foods. They serve most Polish dishes. The food was amazing, and as I usually request, he made sure my dish was gluten free. I had the deer ragout, which was delightful. My friend tried the Polish beet soup and dumplings filled with ground meat. At the end, our waiter served us two glasses each of two different liqueurs commonly drunk in Poland. We had wine to the meals. The check ended in around 180 Polish zlotys, which equals around $57. I highly recommend this secret place. Even though it won't be such a secret for very long then.

Poles don't like to be confused with Russians when abroad, but to be frank - we have things in…read morecommon, especially when it comes to cuisine. For example - Slavic people from Warsaw to Vladivostok like to feast on pierogi (dumplings). There are, of course, subtle differences between Polish pierogi and Russian vareniki and you can argue about who invented what in a way just slightly less heated then solianka soup at Skamiejka. Which is hot. And tasty. But back to vareniki - they are great. Both in general as well as these particular ones in the Russian restaurant that this very review is about. Try the potato ones! Going further - bliny. I tried the savory version, which was good, but I bet the sweet ones could be even better. I'm not an expert on Russian cuisine, but for me it was the best one I had since my epic day trip to Brighton Beach in NYC. Much better atmosphere too, as Skamiejka's staff was extremely nice and helpful.

One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The menu is small compared to other restaurants in the city but don't let this discourage you, we tried several dishes and everything was absolutely delicious and well prepared. The interior of the restaurant is tastefully decorated in the way someone's kitchen or dining room may be adding to the "homey" feel. Warsaw is filled with restaurants that offer delicious and authentic food. But if you want to feel like a local, and not blow a ton of money in an establishment that couldn't care less if you were there, pay Skamiejka a visit.

Great experience trying true Polish food in Warsaw! The pork knuckle is massive but cooked…read moreincredibly well. Dominika was our waitress and she was beyond sweet and did everything to make sure our meal was memorable. Thank you Dominika!

Overrated Food and Service at a Tourist Trap…read more My wife and I made a reservation and arrived about five minutes early. When we informed the hostess/manager that we had a reservation, she was dismissive, rude, and didn't seem interested in even looking it up. She seated us at an extremely small table, approximately 2.5 feet by 2.5 feet, located in what felt like a hallway. When my wife asked for a bigger table, she told us that is the table a party of two would get. We were literally sitting back-to-back with diners behind us, while servers and customers constantly squeezed past our table. It was an uncomfortably tight space for a meal. Our waitress informed us that she was new, which may explain some of what followed. We ordered the pork knuckle, several side dishes, and a jug of lemonade. The lemonade arrived almost immediately and was excellent, raising our expectations for the food. We placed our order at approximately 12:20 PM. By 1:10 PM, the only thing on our table was an empty lemonade jug. Meanwhile, a table seated after us had already received their food. We finally received our order around 1:20 PM, nearly an hour after ordering. Unfortunately, the service did not improve when the food arrived. Several dishes were mixed up. For example, the fried beet dish we ordered arrived as mashed beets instead. To make matters worse, every dish was delivered at once, despite our tiny table being incapable of holding everything. My dinner plate was hanging nearly one-third off the edge of the table, forcing me to eat carefully to avoid sending food into my lap. The biggest disappointment was the restaurant's signature pork knuckle. Visually, it looked fantastic: golden brown, crispy skin, and beautifully presented. The skin was crunchy and well-seasoned, but that is where the positives ended. The pork itself was completely bland. No salt, no brining, no seasoning, no flavor whatsoever. For a signature dish, it was astonishingly underwhelming. Since it was served bone-in, carving it for my wife on an overcrowded table only made the experience more frustrating. I honestly don't understand how this restaurant has earned its reputation. Perhaps its popularity comes from its location next to Old Town rather than the quality of its food or service. Based on our experience, neither the food nor the service justifies the praise it receives. Rating: Not recommended. There are far better dining options in Warsaw that deserve your time and money.
