This place like all nail places around BROOKLYN heights and dumbo is very hit or miss and never amazing. It's clean and new which is nice. The staff is nice enough but not overly. The manicures are meh. The manicures are not cheap and I would say you never get the quality for the money you spend. They are not meticulous. I loved this place. A little pricey but good ambience and service. I have been there six times. I went today but forgot my 20% coupon. They said I should go home and get it. I mentioned that they gave me six coupons and they certainly remembered me. I asked if they would honor it. The receptionist and lovely male technician or owner both said no. I can afford a mani pedi without the discount but I felt like it was bad business. Especially because I showed them my point card that was issued. So unfortunately I will not return because of the principle of it all. Maybe I am tired and disappointed but crankiness sometimes determines my decision. Too bad. read more

I went there recently last monday, July 8th. I noticed my nails were not smooth. It was little bit rough. I saw my nails were not properly and not round what I told the nail technician. I am not satisfied the nail technician (woman) was doing for manicure. My nails was little bit not finish the nail paint and little sloppy. I am not happy!!! She was little rush for nail painted. Slow down! Next time, the nail technician should CHECK to make sure my nails will make smooth and full nail painted. Thank you! read more

Update: The owner, Lilian, has reached out to me and offered a "redo" (free of charge). We all have our "off" days, so unless there is something inherently wrong with a place, I'm all for giving a local business a second chance, especially if they seem to be so willing to go above and beyond to make up for the not so great experience. I am truly glad I gave them another try (and no, I am not just saying it to be nice). Linda, who did my nails this time, was amazing, very meticulous -- which, as a perfectionist myself, I definitely appreciate -- , and did a fabulous job all around (for instance, this may seem like a small detail, but I also appreciated it that she let the gel on my nails have a good soak before attempting to remove it, which allowed for a much smoother and gentler removal without destroying my nails). I enjoyed the entire experience, and I really love my hands/nails. I will definitely be going back. Original review: I really did not want to write this review because I hate to cause any trouble to anyone. But I keep looking at my nails, and I'm not happy. First things first, the owner, Lilian, is exceptionally nice -- we chatted through Yelp to set up an appointment, and later the next day when I saw her in person, she was, once again, truly lovely and sweet. The salon looked beautiful and very clean, which is a huge plus. Sadly, that's where the positives end. I was assigned a trainee -- fine, that happens, they have to learn, right? Either she was nervous, or she just doesn't like doing this, the bottom line is, it was an unpleasant experience with bad results. The manicure was done poorly, cuticles are all still there, my nails are literally rough around the edges and weirdly streaky, it's just bad all around. I came in with a bad gel nail job done at another salon - the gel was so thick that the whole nail looked extremely fake. Fanny and the other staff at Starry Nail Salon filed down my gel nail perfectly and told me what to look out for next time I got one done. I've lived here my whole life and tried all the nail salons. This one is by far my favorite. Everyone is so nice there (and they remember your nail if you're a regular ). They do a great job with manicures and pedicures. The have the best selection of colors and their prices are way better than other salons in the neighborhood. I hate to leave a bad review, but this was by far the worst manicure I've ever had. The energy in this place was chaotic and rushed from the moment I walked in. The powder color I selected was nothing like it turned out, and I mentioned this politely when the color went on the first nail but was told I was wrong, which I was shocked by. Every other place I have been to would kindly let me switch colors. After every cost, I mentioned I wasn't liking it but was told I was wrong. I felt stuck and uncomfortable. I heard this happen to the two women sitting next to me as well. The manicure itself was rushed and sloppy. The prices are not posted online because this place is grossly overpriced. They have promotions to leave Yelp reviews for discounts, which all makes sense now. There is a big sign that says no refunds and that should have been my first clue. I really wanted this place to be great as the staff were incredibly friendly. Unfortunately, my gel manicure that I got last night is already chipping, so it clearly wasn't done correctly, and at $39, that's just unacceptable. There's also these weird streaks in it where it looks like the polish didn't smooth out correctly, and it feels sticky rather than smooth. Completely overpriced for the level of services. This shop charges $14 for a manicure and $32 for a pedicure. That is significantly higher than the other nail salons in the area. I went to Starry 10 days ago for a gel mani and pedi. When I sat down for the pedi, the technician immediately started trying to upsell me on a "spa pedicure" which was double the price and didn't include anything notable. I said no and she gave me attitude. She started being rough with my cuticles and I actually had to tell her to stop. She then tried to upsell me again on a special callous removing treatment which was unnecessary and again, she gave me attitude when I said no. The pedicure is ok but definitely not great. We then moved on to the manicure where she only did two coats of polish for a very light color and again was rough with my cuticles. Now 10 days later, the gel manicure has completely peeled off. The lady May was doing my nails and she continuously was filing that particular spot of my thumb nails to the point thay I had to tell her to stop filing that side..when I got home that nails was on fire and I have a bad burn on right side where she was filing so to deep. I had to put peroxide and it burn. The lady May when deep on the filing. And I feel like she did that on purpose because she taught that wasnt going to give her tip money and in the mean time I had the tip money in my pocket. After that experience I wont be coming back. I've been here a few times and the service previously was good. Today was terrible. The painting of the nail polish amateurish, nails not filed properly. An utter mess. I complained at the end and the owner offered to get it redone for free but having had one of the staff already ruin my nails I was not going to waste any more of my time. Will never go back. Horrible. This nail salon has to be the worst place I have ever visited. I typically get sns done and as the nail tech begins to remove my old sns she automatically burns me with the electric file and continues to be extremely rough with the service. She proceeds to spend a whole hour attempting to remove my sns and gets upset when the acetone leaked on the arm rest. Already having a feeling that this service wasn't going to be the best, she begins to put the powder on my nails and it wasn't the color I had requested. I proceed to tell her and she completely ignores me. Only then for her manager to come resolve the issue because I was getting frustrated. Once she's done applying the powder she begins to file my nails and I told her a few times the shape I wanted and she continued to disregard what I was saying. I then requested to file my own nails because she didn't seem to understand I wanted sharp corners not rounded. Overall the experience was not the best and I do not recommend for SNS. read more
