This was definitely a 1 star visit. The Holiday Bowl Parade was happening and I waited a total of 45 mins for 3 drinks; 2 mobile orders made 10 mins apaart. The crowd was large in this location between 8:30a-10:30a. I ordered on the app and the wait time was 10-15mins for my first beverage and I waited 19 minutes. I was able to use the restroom while I waited. The restroom line was 8 people deep. While I waited, I ordered 2 more hot cocoas for my daughter and her coworker at the parade. I finally got my first drink after 19 minutes. The 2nd order on the mobile app said that the wait time would be 18-21 minutes! I already paid the price for the 2nd order so I waited again for the additional 2 drinks ordered. Total of 45 mins for all 3 beverages. The issues that I had with the long wait time culminated with 1. the large presence of Holiday Bowl Parade customers and 2. Do the Starbucks unprepared staff. There was another coffee shop across the plaza but it was not what customers wanted. As a Starbucks Gold Card holder, I noticed something that I had never seen before. There were about 4 team members who were trying very hard to get orders taken, completed, and delivered to customers. However, there were about 2-3 team members who did not hustle, were not working hard, and who were slowly making little effort to take orders, complete orders, and get them to customers. This was VERY ODD for me because I am used to seeing high energy and motivation from ALL Starbucks team members in the store. I did appreciate that the merchandise rack was clean and maintained, the condiment station was clean and tidy, and the restroom was clean as well. The furniture end tables were not wiped clean, but the counters at the eat-in bar height seating were clean. Again, 45 min wait for 3 beverages placed in 2 mobile orders is not ideal. Overall, this made me consider trying the other coffee shop across the plaza. Seems like Starbucks could prepare and do better for large Embarcadero events. I wonder how they are when cruise ships come in port. My drinks (both sets) were prepared and they were hot. Thanks for that. read more

One of my favorite Starbucks of all the ones that I have visited and for context I am a Reserve status so I've visited A LOT. The staff are kind, professional and most importantly to me they are prompt especially when I'm in a hurry. They don't rest on the laurels of being located next to the Pacific Ocean which provides the most impressive of ambiance. I have also had the iced lemon loaf which was also fantastic. Highly recommend for anyone in a hurry who wants a drink order made right and right away :) read more

Both baristas were considerably rude for a very dead time of day (about four other people who had already ordered and received their drinks), they questioned my drink order which was simply asking for a few less syrup pumps. They then put a triple of espresso into my hot chocolate, when I asked for them to fix it the barista told me she made it right and to "have a good day". After already telling me that a mobile order on the bar was mine and to "have a good one" when I told her they weren't my drinks she scoffed before egregiously messing up my drink. When she gave it to me I asked her if there was espresso in it and she told me there wasn't even though I watched her put it in. I decided to trust her but when I tasted it, it was wrong. She then told me that she made it right and to "have a good day" I was already so upset at the entire interaction and just decided that it wasn't worth it anymore. I have never been to a Starbucks where the baristas had such aggressive attitude problems and did not know how to make a simple hot chocolate. There are a few other locations not too far away. Go to a different location and do not waste your time at this one. read more

Convenient Starbies if you're staying The InterContinental Hotel or visiting Broadway Pier. Clean and plentiful outdoor seating. Unfortunately that's where the positive ends. Staff are rude, and management does nothing to try and prevent patrons from literally walking in, skipping the line, and just going up to the register. Taking advantage of social distance to insert themselves instead of waiting in beyond rude and the staff absolutely sees it happening and hears the customers complaining. read more

I really liked this Starbucks and everyone was really nice to me and my daughter. We also got a super good oat milk espresso. Made perfectly. This isn't the kind of Starbucks where you can use your code to use your credit card with your phone. You can scan the phone to get your points and then use your credit card or cash. I didn't know about licensed Starbucks ( I think that's what the manager called it.). He very kindly explained it to me because I have never understood the difference. It's the same kind of Starbucks as one in a target store would be. I guess you can't use your Starbucks app to pay in those either! I was today years old when I learned that. The staff was super welcoming (isn't it cool when you can sense someone smiling behind their mask!). Ordering was quick and easy . They had someone taking the order while someone made the order . This new Starbucks lies right at the bay front adjacent InterContinental San Diego Hotel and Lane Field Park. It's small but a very nice location. I tried a new latte, the smoked butterscotch latte hot, and for some eats, the turkey bacon egg white sandwich. Both were very good. The latte offered a subtle smoke flavor and a well balance espresso and butterscotch flavor. I asked for just a touch of whipped cream, so not to overly sweet the latte. It was just right with the sweet level for me. The reduce fat turkey bacon was good breakfast sandwich was good. I liked that they also pair with a wheat English muffin as well. With only 230 calories and as tasty as it was, it's a good choice for those who are taking it easy on calories. Service was very good. The young ladies were all very nice and helpful. Oh my gosh. I'm obsessed with Starbucks so I've obviously been to stores all around the US, but I think this might be my favorite one of all time. Not only were the drinks delicious, but they were recommended to me by Arianna, who is the absolute best barista/cashier I've ever had to pleasure of meeting. I avoid Starbucks because their coffee is weak and lack of flavor. Also sometimes employees have an attitude. I ordered soy latte to avoid dairy. When I only saw the employee using milk, I double checked and asked if my order was in fact soy because I saw milk was pour earlier. A girl seems like the lead jumped in and replied with attitude, "Yes, he was making another order.". Okay. I think it could be easily answer without an attitude. Also, I never heard any employee said "Thank you!" To any of the customer while I was in the store. Next time, I rather go to 7-11 for coffee over Starbucks. The cashier was perfectly pleasant but the barista was not I know I asked for a dirty chai I'm sure the cashier just didn't hear me which is not my complaint. Leina on Saturday morning at 940 am, has the worst attitude of a starbucks employee i have seen in a while. She slammed my drinks down when they were ready because I asked for a carrier. The place was not busy at all. So I don't really understand why she was upset. Next I asked for straws . I said do you know where I can get some straws? .. .she replies " YOU have to ask for straws just letting you know" serious attitude. I really could understand if I was being demanding, rude, or had a bad tone. But it is obvious she does not like the Starbucks batista industry. I read the reviews before coming in and decided to give it a try to see if the service was really bad. (Note: I have been a guest in the hotel for a few days now and didn't want to walk to broadway and kettner location). When I came in, I warmly greeted by Leina (I think I spelled that right), who was at the register was very nice and patiently answered all my questions about the new cold foam cold brews featured. She was friendly and was knowledgeable of the menu. Aileen made my drink quickly and to my taste buds was a good quality drink. Everyone in here was friendly even as I entered the establishment after a long line (I sat in my car to try and mobile order, only sad thing about coming here). I just don't know what everyone else has been seeing because this is my fourth time here. Point is that they do their best but not everyone can be pleased as I saw it that morning the guy demanded a pour over when a blonde americano was suggested instead. I was in the line and witnessed this happen and ordered the only coffee that they had available which was Pike with 2 stevia and coconut milk. Train your employees to put on a damn lid!! Coffee spilled all over our rental car now. And they messed up the coffee, too. We're staying at the hotel nearby and they have made something in our drink order wrong for 3 days in a row! And they're employees are rude. I am a resident of the area, so am familiar with all of the Starbucks within walking distance (four). After the plethora of negative customer service reviews, I would think management would take notice, fire the current crew, and put an effort into training new employees with positive customer skills. Save yourself an insult or worse, and go to the Starbucks at the train station, a two-minute walk from the hotel.
