I'm sad to say this did not meet my expectations of the Starbread I'm use to (Vallejo, CA) I ordered five senorita bread for $3. The bread was airy, lightly buttered and slightly crispy at the top where the sugar is. The texture felt like a cross of bread and pastry. The flavor was also very mild but that may be from the lack of bread filling. Staff service was amazing (100/100!) and storefront was clean. I have high hopes for this place and hope they change their recipe to better represent the Starbread we know and love. I'll be back in a few months for update! read more

Food is superb. It's no Leonard's either, so take that information with whatever you may want to (iykyk). The lady who served me was so nice and patient, because I came there expecting only malasadas and their famous señorita bread... nope, I came for more. Be forewarned, if you haven't had those señorita breads... you're in for an amazing treat! Not overhyped at all! And I love how minimalistic the storefront is, just a tad bit modernized. I've been to Starbread a couple times and have tried a few items, but of course the seniorita bread is the star of their bakery. They come out fresh, warm, and buttery and are best eaten right away. When there's a full box it's hard to not multiple seniorita breads at once. It's a great treat to bring to work and I love how they're open early enough to quickly stop by before going to work. Service has always been friendly and quick. Their malasadas are also pretty yummy too but if it's your first visit, definitely go for the seniorita bread. read more

So I don't know what Senorita bread is but all these reviews piqued my interest. We got 1 order of Senorita; malasadas: guavas, strawberry, cream; cheese long john; 1 ube and 1 pandan square cupcake. Obviously, the hot and fresh Senorita was excellent, but the surprise winner for me was the Pandan cupcake, it's tender, mildly sweet and leafy (?) tasting (like a really good green tea kind of taste only better. I'm going to have to come back for more of the pandan cake. Thank you Yelpers for showing me the delights of Starbread Bakery. I called to place on order of two boxes of 40 senioritas for pick up at 5:45 15 mins before they close. When I got there it was pretty busy a short line of 5-6 customers and a pissed off gentleman saying he also placed an order two hours prior getting there and was told there is a 40-45 min for the breads. I like that they serve this fresh hot the oven but there is no purpose in calling ahead as walk in patrons seem to get priority. Needless to say, he left and I was willing to wait 30 mins for mine. I'll quickly list the PROS: their regular donuts, customer service, they accept AMEX cards, and they limit the number of patrons in their bakery keeping everyone safe while COVID is still an issue. CONS: NO hot Filipino pandesal bread (just prepackaged bags at room temperature), their guava malasadas were just meh (maybe their coconut or mango ones are better), I know the Señorita bread is the hit item of this bakery but it's too sweet for my liking (if it were just hot & buttery, it would be perfect!), and the lines to get served are very long and you could be waiting longer than it's worth just to order. Starbread Bakery isn't popular in Northern California, Carson, and Anaheim by mere luck, many of their loyal patrons swear by their baked goodies. I'd return here for sure, but it wasn't the "knock my socks off bakery" I was hoping it to be. IMHO, I prefer Porto Cuban bakery's offerings much better. read more

Attempted to discover what the hype was all about with this "Señorita Bread" that has everyone excited about this Bay Area store's soft grand opening Friday, June 17, 2022 up here in Chula Vista across the street from Chula Vista Mall on the Southwest corner of H Street & Broadway. People waited in line in the heat and the store limited customers to only being able to purchase a maximum of 15 Señorita Bread per person. Busy celebrating our father all day Sunday, we stopped by Starbread around 5pm to see what all the hype was about. We were disappointed that they had sold out of everything! A nice young woman approached our vehicle to soothe our disappointment apologizing that their soft grand opening this weekend had sold them out. She was extremely nice and empathetic to our disappointment and consoled us by encouraging us to return Tuesday at 6am as people have been in line prior to that time for their delicious baked goods! So today, Tuesday, June 21, 2021, I took my chances and arrived shortly after 8am. To my surprise, there were only a few people ahead of me. I looked around and the pleasant young lady offered to help me. I ordered my maximum box of 15 Señorita breads and I was surprised they only came out to about $9 and some change! Less than $10! She said they were fresh out of the oven so I got excited! I disappointedly asked if I could only get 15 as I wanted to get some for my cousin but she had to work. She was so nice and since I was the only one in the store, she told me she could let me have 10 more! I was so happy and she gave me 10 more Señorita Bread in a paper bag to give to my cousin. OMG! I tried them right away wondering what the hype was all about... WOW! It truly is an experience! I opened the box and was delightfully surprised at the cone like shaped roll bread that was driving everyone crazy. I took a bite of one... OH MY GOODNESS!! WOW! It's a sweet soft but a little crunchy buttery bread sweeter than the sweetest Filipino Pan de Sal with a smooth soft texture inside! U can't just eat three! Hahahaha! You have to try it! You'll be happy you did! However, make sure you try it freshly baked hot right out of the oven for the full experience! I know my family and I did this morning and had to YELP all about it as my exuberance for it could not be contained! The señorita bread blew our mind away!! They are soft, buttery, and sinfully good. I can probably eat 5 in one go they have also other amazing pastries like malasadas. From reading the reviews on here, the main takeaway seems that people were upset by how long it took (prep wise or line wise)... which is not something I experienced. Came here on a Monday morning around 945am. There were 2 other parties before us and they were served relatively fast. My boyfriend and I came down to try the hype we'd heard from our Bay Area friends and we were not disappointed. The cashier was kind enough to give us a sample and after trying a roll... instead of getting 10 pieces we got the 20. We also got the guava cheese turnover and the Mango malasada- definitely enjoyed how yummy the filling was for both! I'm the type of yelper who likes to look at the menu online and use pics to decide what to order. Looking at yelp beforehand I was unsure since the pictures seemed pretty empty. Upon walking into the restaurant I felt the same way... and then I sampled the bread. It's so simple - no extreme flavors or other gimmicks. What they do, they do well. Their food sells itself! This was my first experience with star bread and I have to say the bread was good. My experience put a sour taste in my mouth of what could have been better so... The ads say you can order from 1 to 60... but that's not true. Mind you the breads are not that big so I see why you can order such an amount. The couple in front of me ordered 30 under the same transaction and I thought I would do the same since I was going to share my experience with the family. Little did I know this was not the case.
