Melissa did the photography for our engagement shoot as well as our wedding last year. Though first a friend, and a long experienced photographer, I have no doubt that if I had met her without any prior knowledge we would still feel as impressed and loved as we were during our engagement/wedding photography planning and sessions. Melissa takes time to get to know her clients - their style, hobbies, wants/needs and is even happy to oblige in any personal twist you can dream up (re: donuts, sailboats, and she has a special place in her heart for people who incorporate their dogs into their sessions.) She personally takes the time to care about you as a person before you plan your session, so she knows just what you are looking for. Our engagement shoot took place on a Friday evening in July, one of those days where the weather was flirting with a storm. She was so gracious in offering to reschedule if the weather didn't hold out, but we actually went ahead and the photos are incredible. We had the best skies and some sun and a few misty drops and my husband and I couldn't have been more pleased. She offers advice, direction and tons of affirmation (you will feel like a million bucks, and look like it too because she captures love perfectly!) She had helpful hints on poses to make us feel natural, while also helping us seek out spots and shots we would love in Minneapolis. Cut to November. Our wedding day. Melissa showed up at my parent's house to shoot photos of us getting ready, while her second shooter, Monika Hubka, met my husband and his groomsmen across town. These are some of my favorite photos of the day - being able to relieve what each other was experiencing during the hours before we said our vows was and is incredibly special. Melissa paid special care to be authoritative in getting all the shots we requested on our list of friends and families, but was also respectful and kept her distance so that we weren't focused on her getting every shot or even thinking about anything besides the pledge we were making in marriage. We were confident that she was 100% focused on capturing every detail and every moment that we were experiencing, and even the things we were missing (I adore the shots we now have of family and friends that we didn't even remember noticing or being a part of!) When we received our wedding photos (on discs, beautifully packaged, a HUGE plus instead of having to pay for images!) I was blown away. I cried reliving our wedding day and both my husband and our families were stunned at the photos we received. I could not recommend Melissa more, and I do, to everyone I know! She has a heart for people and giving them the gift of their lives encapsulated in photography. We have been blessed to have her as a part of our love story.

Her style and eye is great and she has a way to capture photos without them being too posed. I have heard horror stories of weddings where the bride and groom waited months to get back their photos, not only did Laurie get us a couple photos in a few days for some thank you cards... but she delivered the rest way faster than we expected.
