As I opened my to go plate of food feeling ripped off and taken advantaged of all I imagined was the owners sitting together over tea and discussing how they can charge the most and give the least. I was told this place had authentic doner. I went out of my way to pay this place a visit. I arrived and ordered the doner plate and a price of dessert I believe called astar. The told was a little over $35. I was so confused because it seemed SO expensive. The picture I posted actually makes it look like a lot more that what was actually there. Anyway it was nothing to call home about and had no taste. I did like the dessert. I was so bothered and called and asked how much the plat was and the owner said $24.99 plus tax! Crazy

My last day of "staycation" in Downtown Los Angeles before I head back to Hollyweird and I'm having my morning coffee at a beloved French restaurant I patronize near the loft I'm staying at, wondering what I should do for my last meal of lunch in town when a nice gentleman off to my side starts up a conversation with me, asks, "I see you perusing Yelp, you looking for a good restaurant here?" I laugh and explain that, in fact, I was. We get to talking and he's a jeweler in the Jewelry District and recommends a few places I've been to already. Then he looks me in the eye pointedly and says, "St. Vincent's Deli. The Döner Sandwich." It's one I haven't tried so I thank him for the tip and I do, indeed, abide by the recommendation... I walk a few blocks in the balmy weather to the tucked off the beaten path place in what's known as St. Vincent's Court and find my destination. The man handing out To Go bags for pick-up as well as in-person orders certainly looks to be the manager and/or owner and I learn from people speaking with him that his name is Noray. In the very least, he is clearly The Man here. I take my friend's advice and get the döner shawarma all beef on pita bread to keep the carbs lower but boy I want it on the other option of the french roll. I wait my turn as Noray's main guy sets to making me a delicious sandwich of perfectly cut ribbons of beef, not overly seasoned, well assembled into a nice pita. One bite and I know I owe the stranger who recommended the place a beer or at least my gratitude for not steering me wrong: the meat is lean and tender, something I truly appreciate, while being flavorful and fun to eat with the tzatziki and pickles and peppers. It's a 10/10 lunch sandwich for $15... These are the kind of places I cherish, being run by just the kind of faces you want serving you a sandwich over the counter and after perfecting it over the decades. Delicious.

$11 for gyro sandwich on either French baguette or pita. Generous portions of meat obscures shrettuce and tomato. Tastes like grilled steak more than döner. Cash only. This small deli is tucked into St. Vincent's Court alongside another deli and a slew of mediterranean restaurants. Seems to be almost totally patronized by stocky/elderly men.

Fantastic sandwiches for a very reasonable price! $10 will get you a loaded sub and a side. Fast friendly service too.

Dolmas to go.

I'm addicted to their dolmas. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/st-vincent-deli-los-angeles?select=8LaaIxIdaHQue7NuMKS5jA#8LaaIxIdaHQue7NuMKS5jA When it comes to flavor: They're fresh, and well-seasoned. When it comes to texture: The rice is made just right and the grape leaves aren't crunchy (i've had horrific experienced elsewhere). You also can't beat the fact that you get three dolmas for $1.75. That means you can have a great lunch for cheap. Plus, the customer service here is on point. The people that work here treat you like family. When looking for dolmas in DTLA, turn into the alley and make a beeline for this place. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/st-vincent-deli-los-angeles?select=hfTI_DSBDjbjxsD17KakEQ#hfTI_DSBDjbjxsD17KakEQ

Hummus w/pita bread

Love Love Love this place! Best Doner Kebab in Downtown yet! St. Vincent Deli is located in a small alleyway attached to the St. Vincent jewelry building - it's not the easiest thing to find - but definitely worth it. The owners are really nice and can pretty much make you anything you want (any kind of sandwich, etc.) ... personally I've only ever had the Doner Kebab (which is like Shwarma) Here's what I got: Doner Kebab Plate: I enjoy the sandwich version as well (you can get it on French bread, yay!), but I felt like having the plate (comes with the meat, rice and salad). You can definitely taste the freshness of the meat (this ain't no defrosted meal). Fries: The fries are super crispy. I usually prefer thick steak fries, but these are really good, especially if you dip them in hummus. Side of Hummus: It comes with pita bread, but like I said I prefer eating it with fries instead (making it up as I go people - sometimes things work out). I also love the little alleyway itself ... it's quaint - looks like it belongs in a different city/decade! Definitely a must try in downtown for me!!

Flat, dry, and bland.

4+stars?? Really?? This place was really disappointing. I walk past St. Vincent Court almost every time I'm in DTLA, and have always wondered if the food was any good in the several eateries located there. I had some time for lunch this past weekend, so I thought I'd give it a try. The sign out front advertising freshly made (not frozen) döner kebobs drew me in. With a can of soda, $13+change. Sat in one of the small tables in the sidewalk, and waited for my order. About 8-10 minutes, this lifeless-looking thing was brought to my table. The meat was dry, mealy, and bland. It took several bites before I tasted some of the accoutrements that were placed deep in the pita, followed by the meat. I give it (barely) 2-stars. I hope the staff take this review seriously, as the competition for quality eats in DTLA is steep, and putting out a subpar product like this is unsat.

I hadn't been here in a while and had to take my love. We beyond enjoyed it! We had tacos! A must!!! And yummy dessert with Armenian coffee!

Gyro Tacos

This place is has been an institution in the DTLA jewelry jewelry district for decades, and for good reason...their doner (gyros) are simply the best around. They serve their special meat in a few incarnations, and no matter which you choose (a wrap, a taco, a sandwich or a plate) it's absolutely delicious. The meat pairs perfectly with an ice cold tahn (yogurt drink) available in the fridge. If you're craving a quick and tasty lunch drop in, you won't regret it and you'll be back.

Baked chicken

Excellent service food is delicious, yummy baked chicken highly recommend, same owner foe the past 20+ years! And same employees too! So is the same delicious taste every time!

Best shawarma plate in all of Los Angeles and greater area period. It's better than my family shawarma, so that tells you something.

This small little institution in downtown is the place for doner kabob. Try it with onions and mayo.

Langer's Delicatessen - Classic #19 Pastrami sandwich

Personally, I'm not even a big fan of sandwiches, but the sandwich here was hands down the best I've ever had in my life. While checking out, a wonderful gentleman struck up a conversation with us, and it turned out he was the owner! He was an elderly gentleman, incredibly friendly, witty, and warm-hearted. He proudly shared with us that they bake all their sandwich bread fresh right here on-site. No wonder it tastes so phenomenal. I'd give this place a 20 out of 10 if I could. I have the deepest, most sincere respect for them keeping such an incredible establishment running for so long. A true gem

Every time I visit, I order the #19: thick, hand-cut pastrami piled high on double-baked rye bread that's soft inside with a perfectly crunchy crust. It comes with Russian dressing and housemade slaw. The combination is absolutely outstanding. I'm also a big fan of their pastrami chili fries. The chili is perfectly seasoned and pairs beautifully with the chopped pastrami and melted cheddar cheese. My only real complaint has nothing to do with the restaurant itself. The location across from MacArthur Park is rough. You'll see drug addicts in zombie-like states right outside the windows and open drug deals happening on the street. It's a very sad scene and a stark reminder of how much Los Angeles has declined. I really wish city leaders cared more about cleaning it up. That said, if you've never had Langer's pastrami, it's absolutely worth the trip. It's one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.

This one is in a class of its own. It was the worst I have ever had. It looked like leftover ends. It no taste and chewy. It was small pieces. The bread tasted like it was stale. The crust was so hard. I ate two bites. Added mustard. And it was still not eatable. The coleslaw was dry coleslaw supposed to have some juice. This one did not. Now let me go onto the pickles. I love pickles. I eat pickles twice a week all over the country. in fact all over the world I've had pickles. These were the worst I've ever had. I don't know what has happened to Canter's but Canter's is no longer a good deli. I would avoid going there at all cost. The only good thing about it was the service. The tables and everything look rundown. Personally, I can't see it being around that much longer.

DAMM !!!!! Delicious !!!!!…read more Well, for those of you that follow me, know I'm a cheeseburger kind of dude.... (Still strange to me) But this place makes some of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten..... I had the broadway sub and it is awesome..... it's a little messy but totally delicious. I also ordered the garlic knots ... wow !!!! Soooo good . My wife had the spaghetti with meatballs... excellent. I can't say anything about the location because I had my order delivered. Through Grubhub. I'm definitely going to order again. This place is definitely worth trying... And like I always say,,,,, If for some reason you don't like this place,,,,,, You're definitely brain dead..... (Jk) hahaha

Sandwich was massive, however, it was mostly lettuce. Didn't notice from the pictures that the sandwiches aren't very balanced between meats and veggies. It's my personal preference for some more balance or flavor in a sandwich, peppers/onions/seasonings. Honestly, Jersey Mike's seasons their veggies better. I will say the bread at this deli was a notch above Jersey Mike's which is definitely a plus as good bread can make or break a sandwich. Mozzarella sticks were great, although they were normal sticks nothing out of the ordinary but I've definitely had worse sticks (looking at you Prince St Pizza...) so I'd recommend them if fried cheese is your jam! Service counter young lady was nice, she was quick and helpful with her suggestions. Small store, kind of looks like a convenience store and then the deli counter is on the right of the entrance and cashier is in the back. Easy ordering process. Parking is in the back, limited spaces. No inside seating available from what I saw, just counter to order and that's it. Grab and go type of spot for sure. Place was OK - if I lived closer, I would think it's an ok spot to come more often but I would not go out of my way to come.
