The 11am Sunday Mass is a hidden gem of an experience in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood; you will experience deep moments of prayer and reflection, beautiful uplfting music, and a small intimate feel that is often hard to find in larger DC churches.. Monsignor Paul (Priest) is very well spoken and frequently delivers engaging and uplifting homilies, as stated by previous Yelpers, he has a regular practice of walking down to the aisle to be closer to the parishioners when delivering his homily which is a nice gesture.. This is a small church (in the middle of the city) so there are often only one or two ushers working the mass and even when busy, the ushers always do an incredible job at greeting every person at the entrance, making sure everyone has music leaflets, church bulletins, etc.
Now, for one of my favorite parts of this church, the music ministry!! The vocalists and musicians are incredibly talented, the acoustics of the church resonate the beautiful voices and instrumental sounds throughout the church, I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have been blown away by the beauty of the music! On multiple occasions at the conclusion of the mass I have witnessed the parishioners give the musicians a standing ovation..
Long story short, if you are seeking a small reliable Catholic parish in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, this is the place to go! St. Matthews Cathedral (which is also beautiful in its own way) down the street is the more popular alternative for Catholics in the area, however, this parish offers a quieter intimate feel if that is what you are seeking.. read more
