I thought I had found a parish home, even though I had a "low church," Rite II background. St. Paul's is a "high church," complete with smells and bells (incense and bells). The church provides 2 services on Sunday morning, 09:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
A gentleman and a lady warmly welcomed me after my first visit. I was touched by their kindness.
Sadly, after 4-5 parishioners took delight in making fun of me during my first post 10:30 AM coffee social, I realized I made a mistake. I admit my surname is unusual, but to make fun of it, is, at best, juvenile, and, at worse, offensive.
I was shocked that seemingly sophisticated Washingtonians, whom I estimated to be in their 50s, could have been so rude to a new person who was interested in joining their church.
