If you time it properly, you can even deafen yourself when the bells sound and you're standing a mere two feet away, like I was!

Stepped inside Freiburg Cathedral while admiring the Food Market & we were just in time for the…read morechoir - stayed for a song or 2 & gazed upon the lovely altar, grand room & lovely stained glass But the highlight of this church is really what you see from the outside - the steeple. Finished around 1330, it offers a panorama well worth the 329-step climb to the top......or so I'm told. We were unable to climb due to parents w/ mobility challenges & us kids not wanting to leave them alone There are 16 ginormous bells w/ 1 reported to be 750 years old & is one of Germany's oldest bells. Ringing can be heard throughout the city & we were told that at a certain time of the day, "We call it the Spaetzle Bell. It rings at 11am on Fridays to tell us it's time to put the water on to cook the Spaetzle noodles for lunch" Very cute!

This church is famously known it's famous dome architecture. It sits in the middle of the cutest…read morelittle town in the Black Forest, St, Blasien. A little river runs through it as well. Quant streets to stroll on...all with the Black Forest flavour. There also sits one of the best ice cream shops with a huge "ice cream menu"....can't miss that. There is market with vendors driving in from small towns all over the Black Forest bringing with them their special breads, cheese, sausages, flowers, fruits, vegetables, honey..etc ALONG THE MOUNTAINSIDE OVERLOOKING THIS TOWN....hotels look like right out of the movie "Grand Hotel Budapest". The Dom church is unique and the main reason people are attracted to this location...worth the visit.
