He also ministered to my family through baby dedications, weddings, baptisms, etc over the past 14 years. You're not going to find a more sincere, consistent and doctrinally sound pastor in the area. He went as far as to stay over a night on a couch with no advanced planning during a family crisis. I would like to also respond to one of the negative comments on this page. The Bible says: Woe to you when all men speak well of you. A few outraged slanderers is par for the course for preaching the gospel in Massachusetts. I would be more concerned for someone's ministry if no one spoke evil of them. It's usually a stamp of a good church to have haters. Ask the Apostle Paul. My advice for the slanderer would be to: a) get born again if you are not, and b) submit to good Godly leadership as we are all commanded to by God. If you do this this you will be more graceful to the flaws you see in others instead of trying to tear people down on yelp reviews. Giving your "pennies" to the local church will become a joy and not a duty. You won't give "reviews" about a church as if it was your local Starbucks as you casually bounce from one to another nitpicking as you go. You will start to see it as a place where people come to meet with a *living* God. Are you telling me that you can't see and celebrate the downright miracle of a Bible-based church in Massachusetts circa 2022 and beyond? Someone who attends a church once a month and tells the pastor what he should be teaching is a walking red flag. My current pastor has endless stories of young prideful men walking in trying to tell him how to do things better while they themselves are doing nothing for the Kingdom and won't lift a finger to help. He calls them fruit inspectors; always examining the fruits of others but never their own. That said I can guarantee you Pastor Dane took your input to prayer. Even if he didn't enact all of your changes immediately upon your request. Here is a question for you: Have you forgiven this pastor and the church members for these perceived faults? Like the old saying goes: if you're looking for the perfect church, forget about it because the moment you walk in it will be imperfect. The church is a hospital for the sick and hurting. That is of course unless you are already well and not in need of a physician. For everyone else please stop by and watch God transform your life as He did mine through this man's ministry.

I saw a couple reviews that mentioned the church's Southern Baptist Convention roots and just…read morewanted to speak to that. I understand the resistance, truly I do. The past year that I have been in Boston has involved a lot of researching denominations and trying to understand them and the SBC certainly is a hard one to grapple with for many. But no matter how many times I've ventured elsewhere, I *always* come back to Hope Fellowship. Mostly, that is because I'm convinced that Hope Fellowship is led by godly, prayerful people and that the Spirit is bearing fruit here. Again, trust me, I get the doctrinal disputes and I struggle with the SBC on certain issues. At Hope, the leadership doesn't shy from hard topics but it also doesn't give black-and-white, pre-scripted answers; nor does it give wishy-washy, ungrounded ones. I've only ever seen Hope leadership tackle highly sensitive subjects in a nuanced, thoughtful, and humble way. Even if you don't agree 100%, you know you can share your perspective with leadership and be heard and loved. Furthermore, personally, I've found that this church has a refreshing way of incorporating confession and also rejoicing in God's mercy. During each service we have a call-and-response of a Psalm and then a prayer of confession and then a passage reminding us of how we have been redeemed from that sin. It's so balanced and thoughtful and, to me, really models what we see throughout Acts as people come to faith--a rhythm of repentance and joyfully accepting God's grace. If you are looking for a church that does not shy from tough questions and that will continually extend the love of Christ to you and motivate you to do the same for others, this place does that.

But we have found in this church direct love of Jesus, devotion, humility, and community. Communion is simple and every Sunday. Scripture is cherry picked from the Bible, handed out on a piece of paper and often interpreted out of context in favor of radical social issues, such as Black Lives Matter or LGBT advocacy. In this church, racial diversity is held in higher regard over spiritual salvation; race over soul. In addition, sermons are often about using Jesus to get what you want in life rather than humbling yourself to Jesus for divine direction. The church dropped it's original name, Greater Boston Vineyard Church and affiliation with Vineyard USA for its new name, Reservoir Church, for LGBT, woke advocacy, woman in leadership and not requiring pastors to have a seminary degree.

Today was my…read moreofficial "Garage Sale Crawl", usually done once a year to remind me why I despise bargain hunting in people's front yards... and the rainy weather made me realize even sooner why I can't stand arguing over getting a used shirt for 25 cents instead of 50. So, I was heading home, and just I was beginning to renounce life, love, and goodwill -- there it was! "Rummage Sale May 3rd, 35 Church Street, 10 AM - 3 PM" -- My car practically steered itself into the parking lot, where I parked and was promptly yelled at by the bank employee guarding the four bank spots. So I moved the car, and walked my grumpy self into the basement of F.P.O.W.U.U. Immediately friendly faces asked me if I was looking for anything in particular, and directed me to the corner of the room where all the baby clothes were stacked. I filled my bag full of cheap-o crib sheets, fleecy jackets, and baby blankets, and walked out only spending $11. Since most of you yelpers have an anti-breeding stance, I have no worries that I'll be able to go here and get baby things without you all stealing my bargains. Oh, I didn't go to the service here, but I'm sure it's nice too.

I was raised in a Presbyterian church but with a healthy dose of meditation and mysticism thrown in by my mom, and then I married a scientist. FPW is a unitarian universalist church, which means they have no religious creed but instead value the search for meaning. They're all about truth, love, and justice, which in my opinion are the best parts of all the world's religions. The people I've met there range from Catholics and theists to Buddhists and atheists and humanists. Lots of hippies, nerds, lesbians, activists, and artists. Also lots of scientists, professionals, professors... someone said once that you don't have to "leave your brain at the door" to come here. Plus, everyone is super nice. Not like "we want you to believe what we believe so we're going to be nice to you", but the sort of nice that shows they're genuinely interested in you as a person. The building itself doesn't really look like a church, but it is a nice bright space inside. The services are a nice balance of peaceful/reverent/thoughtful and joyful/funny. The minister is great, and we often get to hear from his equally great wife (also a minister) and other speakers. The music, provided by an excellent pianist and diverse guests, was a big selling point for me (I'm a musician). The other awesome part is intergenerational friendships, which I never realized I wanted until I had them. I used to look for "young adult" type groups like the one at the Cambridge UU church, but I'm 28 now and I guess I grew out of that. This church has a nice mix of age groups and life stages. Lots of kids-- there is a virtual stampede every week when it's time for the children to get up and go to religious education class.
