My husband and I got married at St. Joseph's Church and could not recommend it enough! Fr. Larry made everyone feel welcome and we received so many compliments from our guests on the service. The church is beautiful and great for pictures. The staff was also super helpful throughout the planning process.

Absolute gem of a community. Beautiful church, service and the music is amazing. I've had four children baptized by Fr Larry and feel lucky to have done so. Very welcoming to all and an hour mass goes by very fast! My only wish is that we could attend more often- but with four children, well you know how that goes.... :)

We looked at many churches for our wedding day, and St. Joseph exceeded expectations. First off, the wedding coordinator, Jutta, is very kind and extremely responsive. She will keep you organized and make sure you have everything planned for the big day. Our music coordinator, Joan, was also fantastic and helpful when planning our music program. And, WOW, we loved Father Larry. He made our ceremony feel so personal - many of our guests commented on how much they loved our ceremony. Another benefit of the church is that they do not have a preset list of vendors or other restrictions, which was not the case at other churches. We highly recommend this beautiful, historic church for your wedding day!

We had such a beautiful ceremony at Immaculate Conception St. Joseph Parish. Father Larry made everyone feel very welcome in church. Father Larry and Jutta, the events coordinator, were easy to work with and extremely helpful throughout this process. Not to mention, this parish is STUNNING. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking to get married in Chicago!

My fiancé and I moved to Chicago in December and started looking for a catholic church that we would like to get married in. Every Sunday we went to a different church around the downtown area until we finally found what we were looking for...a beautiful church, with a community feel, and amazing priests/sermons. St.Joseph's is definitely a hidden gem!! The following sums up St. Joseph's church: Beautiful! - The outside of this church is very deceiving because of it's modern look. Once you walk through the front doors you will be in awe. Inside a huge beautiful cathedral. It's absolutely gorgeous. Great Priest --- Fr. Larry is amazing! He is very personable, remembers everyone by name, and most importantly delivers great sermons. We take something away from every mass we attend. Amazing Music --- The music is awesome. It's not traditional, boring church music. It's very modern, with a great rhythm and beat. Community Feel --- Fr. Larry is a big reason this church has a sense of community. Once he found out we were new to the area and church, he immediately introduce us to other parishioners and gave us a warm welcome. There are coffee and donuts after the 11 am mass in the gathering area, which allows you to get to know other parishioners. Historic ---- St. Joseph's happens to be one of the oldest churches in Chicago. In the 70's, the front of the church collapsed and was reconstructed with a more modern look, which makes it very deceiving when you drive past it. Once inside, you'll see a beautiful cathedral with such great detail. Free Parking & Easily Accessible ---- Do I have to say more? This is not something that's easy to find in Chicago. St.Joseph's has it own school and parking lot across the street that is free for parishioners on Sundays. Flexible Mass Times --- St.Joseph's also has a sister church called Immaculate Conception a couple blocks away. It is much smaller and is attached to its school. Between the two churches you have a lot of different mass times to pick and choose from. We absolutely love it here, and you will too! We can't wait to get married at St.Joseph's next Spring. If your new to Chicago and looking for a great Catholic church, trust me....this is the one! :)

My whole wedding experience at St. Joseph Church was amazing! Sam was super quick to respond to me and even emailed me during her maternity leave; above and beyond! Fr Larry was incredible. He is so easy going and really makes you feel comfortable. At mass, he makes us smile and at the wedding he kept everything personal, interesting and sweet. We couldn't have been happier! Lastly, the church is absolutely stunning. I learned that it is the third oldest Catholic Church in the city and the history is really amazing. After the wedding, our guests couldn't stop raving about how beautiful the church was and how great Fr Larry was. Thank you St Joseph crew for making our day as special as possible!

My wife and I were married here in March and we can't say enough good things about it. It's a beautiful church and the ceremony was everything we wanted. The true gem of the whole experience was Father Larry. He is so engaging and we felt he really cared about us and our ceremony. I can tell you that so many people at the reception and after commented on how much they enjoyed listening to Father Larry speak. And the real testament to how much I like him and the church is that we continue to go to his mass on Sundays. Before our wedding we tended to only go to mass on the holidays. But since getting married in March we have been regular attendees. Father Larry's mass are light and enjoyable. Not preachy and boring as so many of the mass we attended growing up.

Urban Village Church: Wicker Park has become my home in Chicago!…read more My husband and I were originally drawn to UVC: Wicker Park because of its strong commitment to Biblical integrity while also being resolutely affirming of all people in the LGBTQ community. What we discovered was so much more. UVC goes by the motto of being 'BOLD' (boldly rooted in the Gospel message of Jesus Christ), 'INCLUSIVE' (radically affirming of LGBTQ folks, striving to be an anti-racist church, and working toward all other areas of inclusivity and diversity equity), and 'RELEVANT' (living into our faith all week long, not just on Sundays). This motto is beautiful and helps my husband and I live into the lives we want to be. In fact, it was this very community that married us and has been with us through thick and thin. Pastor Hannah is an absolute gem, bringing engaging/powerful messages that are relevant to our current context in Chicago/USA/world! Are you looking for a place that is spiritually rich and community driven? Then bring yourself over to UVC! We would love to have you join us!

They truly do celebrate people of all backgrounds (i.e. they don't just give the LGBTQIA community a "seat on the pew", but actual voices and leadership roles). The people here are caring, honest, and supportive of each other, wherever you are on your life journey - even if you have doubts, trauma and uncertainty. Truly all are welcome here. UVC lives their mission of being bold, inclusive, and relevant by doing work in the local communities, and providing interactive ways to learn and give back during Black History Month, Pride Month, etc. with history walks and celebrations and hearing stories from the community lifted up. I've especially loved Pastor D'Angelo's creativity when it comes to services and community-building at Wicker Park; we've had breakout discussion groups during the service, creative use of the stage setup and props, we've heard testimonies, and listened to music together, and even ended the sermon early for a surprise coffee hour when Pastor D said "You know what? I can preach about community, or we can go do it right now," recognizing that coming out of the pandemic many of us don't know each other and haven't had real conversations together. Those conversations and laughter were much needed.

It's inspiring to see a church that remains faithful to the gospel and encourages its congregation to live and love like Jesus. I have been deeply and meaningfully encouraged by each service I attend. The pastors are anointed to deliver the freedom that only comes through Christ, and they humbly encourage personal insight into how God wants to speak to you as an individual. Attend if you are ready to be challenged to put your cares at the feet of Jesus and let him minister to your soul. The music is world class. These musicians aren't simply "song leaders", they exude an attitude of worship and joy that invites a connection with a Holy God that is intimate, and it prepares your heart to listen. Be still, and rest.

I did some digging and their core values and beliefs don't seem to align with the Word. The pastor was just mumbling and he was just saying a whole lot of nothing. The sermons seem to be very surface-level literally just repeating what the Bible says word for word, without an in-depth intellectual analysis of the Word.

If I miss a Sunday, I feel like something is missing, like I haven't been home in a while. When I was going through intense grief, the church was the body of Christ that came around me, prayed for me, took care of me and supported me in every way a church in the Bible was meant to be like. I am forever grateful they got me through that traumatic time. During a time of confusion within the church, the elders took time to meet people, answer questions, was transparent and vulnerable. It helped me build trust with them and brought me closer to God in those times. Their service involve worship, and sermons that are based on reading chapters from scripture. We go through books of the Bible. Right now we are reading the book of Luke and it will take us two years to complete it. The pastors and elders are so friendly, and are available to you. They try to meet everyone, but it's also welcomed for you to introduce yourself to them. There are many deacons at the end of service who are available to take prayer requests and will pray for you on the spot. There are also many resources available for new believers and many different ministries: Alpha, Loop Kids Ministries, small groups, Global Ministries, discipleship classes, Three Twelve: ministry for people in their 20's and 30's, retreats, evangelizing, and so much more. Every church is not perfect and will have their flaws. It's okay to go church hopping for a while, but this church is worth checking out, and if you have any questions, go to guest services or go up to a church leader. You are welcome here! :)
