St. John the Baptist, the parish church of Burscough (consecrated in 1832) was built with the aid of a grant from parliamentary funds specifically assigned, at the end of the Peninsular War, for the building of churches in populous areas. Consequently, St. John's, which is a Grade II* listed building, is known as a "Waterloo" church.
...and my old Church when I was a child. The Churchyard is great, lots of old graves and a lot of history, many familiar names were spotted today when we laid our Christmas wreaths. Lots of happy memories of snowy Christmas Eve's and crunching down the path. The inside sadly was butchered by a previous vicar and now modernized...oh well I guess that's religious progress for you. This Church made my parents happy and thus makes this now non religious alumni also happy. read more
