It was incredibly peaceful with the lush grasses, shady trees and water fountain. There are also lovely statues throughout the garden that represent different religious figures. Inside, the church is full of history and beautiful mission style architecture. The stained-glass windows are nice and the ceilings are tall which make for a neat environment when you want to meditate or reflect on life. There is a dedicated parking lot, but it appears to require a permit. I was staying at a nearby hotel, so I just walked. Take note that it's near the convention center, so during events you might be facing a bit of traffic. I did not attend a formal service, but felt very welcome and comfortable stopping by for a few minutes on my own.

I recently photographed a wedding at this church. It has a classic layout similar to other…read morechurches built hundreds of years ago - long and fairly narrow. Very high ceilings with a small balcony. The wedding we shot was in the afternoon and we were able to get some very nice photos with natural light. The church is small and intimate compared to most rural Catholic churches. The reception hall is about as basic as it gets, but it served its purpose allowing room for a small band, DJ, dancing, and 40-50 tables. There's kitchen area too. Though there isn't a lot of parking out in front of the church, there's tons on the backside. I would love to shoot more weddings here. I think it's an awesome little church.

Ok where do I start?…read more...... I learned about New City Church through one of my co-workers. I was actually looking for a "fresh wind" type of worship and fellowship experience as I searched for a new church home. This past Sunday I decided to see what New City was all about. I was absolutely overwhelmed by how welcoming and attentive the members are there. I was sitting at one of the tables near the coffee bar (Yes, there is a coffee bar inside of the church!!!! I know AMAZING right??) and one of the Welcome ministry staff came right over to greet me and even gave me a tour of the church. Instantly, I felt right at home. The worship experience was awesome, lots of praising and teaching in a loving, accepting and inviting environment. The service progression was actually explained so that new members or those that are new to the faith would understand. But there's more..... If you had an interest in the church your questions were answered right on the spot! This church has about a dozen different ministries to choose from, so I'm sure there is a place where you can fit right in! In addition they have an art gallery....yes an art gallery!!! And you thought the coffee was the bonus :) every first and third Friday an event is held to showcase local artists. How cool is that????!!!!! I challenge you if you are looking for a church home or someplace other than your home church to visit New City Church is the place! I had an opportunity at the end of service to go up and meet Pastor Brian. I was so thrilled that I told him he would definitely see me for the rest of the year! I first want to preface this church is beautiful and the intent is too- but too much has happened…read moreto be complacent and silent. My best friend who was in ministry here cried several times because of the way the pastor teased carelessly, my ex boyfriend (when we were dating) was called out embarrassingly in the middle of service for walking past the front, almost every friend I know who ACTIVELY tried plugging in there for months at their practicing the way classes and groups consistently felt excluded, ignored, or invisible (myself included). A lot of the energy from people there is "too cool for you" or just plain disinterested. Another friend who served in worship for about a year never once felt seen or welcomed into the rest of the cliquey worship crew. She was outgoing and warm but seldom did people talk to her or remember her name... so disappointing. There are other moments where the pastor has used his words immaturely and been defensive and prideful when given feedback. Leaving was not easy for me and not for my friends. I wanted to love going here, but ultimately the church and its leaders don't display the Christ-like kindness that they so passionately stand for having.
