Congregation size is right up my alley, as I prefer a smaller group to workship with (as opposed to the 5000+ in service when I was at Calvary Abq), and there's really no excuse why not to go, with two services, and occasional sunday evening services, easy parking, and you can shop at Trader Joes right after service! :)

The worship is very modern, enthusiastic, and spirit-filled. We have worship before and after the study, and communion every week, so you get a double chance to praise God for His goodness! Pastor Brian leads the Bible study in a chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse format and pulls in many illustrations that are relevant in today's society. There are also numerous chances to get involved and plugged-in through weekly small groups, women's studies, men's studies, a Young Professionals group, a college group, high school group, Jr. High group, and children's ministry! If you're new to the area and looking for a home church, or just visiting and want a church to visit on any given Sunday, I highly recommend Calvary SLO! God bless!

Saint Luke's is small: about 40-50 on a Sunday. The services last about 2 hours, and it's a mix of music, preaching, and praying. They're really amazing musically, especially for a small church. I get a kick out of watching the pastor play his fretless bass. They do an altar call after the sermon, and you can go up and get prayer for whatever you need prayer for. At the end, everyone circles and holds hands and prays. Half the congregation dresses in serious Sunday attire: suits, dresses, etc. The other half is really casual, and I've never felt the slightest bit of judgment for showing up in jeans. The phrase "eclectic mix" comes to mind. Like the body of Christ should be. It's one of the most loving families I've ever visited.

I've listened to over 80 sermons, and not once has there been a clear gospel presentation. What I did hear is teaching on Lectio Devina, a Roman Catholic mystical practice(contemplative prayer/divination). I also heard man centered moralistic-therapuetic-deism. They believe that "all men are worthy of God's grace".....this is heresy and blasphemous. The book of Romans lays this out specifically. I do not recommend this.....I don't know what to call it.....self esteem/self help country club?
